which ilx poster has had the most transformative effect on your life?

I'm naming my firstborn "rushomancy"

"Transformative" is too melodramatic a word but the answer for me is probably imago, since this is I think the third website we've both found ourselves on (he's been here a lot longer than me though obviously). He's introduced to me a lot of great music over the years and generally seems a good dude. But uh, I'm not great at compliments.

A lot of my favourite ilxors I've never actually come into contact with directly since they tend to comment on things I don't really have anything particularly pertinent or insightful to say about (i.e. basically everything)

El Tomboto I have turned to for hot reads on the Trump administration and being able to break down the breadth of the shitshow that it is into practical terms, have learned a lot from his posts in the threads this year...

the Metal thread regulars practically helped me reintegrate within the genre when I dove headfirst back in after not listening to metal for a few years and being out of touch with the scene...

DJP's posts frequently make me re-examine myself....

Feeling this, and perpetually in the midst of therapeutic engagement as a result of feeling this.

There are lots of folks here who have transformed me. Just being here for a decade and a half and engaging with a gaggle of people who have demanded more of me than I might've demanded of myself in isolation has been transformative. I know I'm pretty much a gag poster to those who even notice my presence, but I'm undoubtedly a better writer and a better thinker and, yes, even a better person because I've spent an unreasonable amount of time in this particular haunt rather than any number of other online hellscapes. I'm genuinely grateful for this place and pretty much everyone who engages with this place.

About a decade ago, someone on ilx posted about what to do when the perforations on the plies of a toilet paper roll do not line up with one another. You must separate the two plies, then unwind just the outer ply once, after which, the perforations will line up properly. This works! So thank you, long ago poster, for changing this aspect of my life.

Started reading sf again after decades-long layoff, so my first instinct was to say Martin Skidmore. but I was leery of going for the Get Out Your Handkerchiefs effect, and it was really him and sinkah along with that other Sluglord Tracer Hand. Damn you, Tracer Hand!. Oh yeah, James Morrison and Shakey too.

But tbh I don't know if that is the most transformative effect.

the biggest transformation I've experienced has been the collective effect of ILM on what music I listen to and how I listen to and think about it ... some of y'all have pretty good taste

I've learned about movies from xyzzz and amateurist, sharpened my barbs with Morbs and Eric H, and learned a fuck ton about thinking about music from Tim F.

I have a special regard for scott, upper miss shakedown, col, C. Grisso/McCain, La Lechera, pplains, carl agatha, VegemiteGrrl -- veterans of the Eagles listening, thanks to which I lost a couple years of my life.
