I was so wrong about this, he is front and center in Season 5 and shit is wall-to-wall silliness now. Surm otm that Val is somehow the best thing that ever happened to this show - one of the only credible actresses/characters (also I love how her secret weed-smoking is portrayed as evidence of her inherent untrustworthiness lol)

That was my impression too! It was really on the nose, which felt a bit off because he also had some domestic violence stuff going on (didn't he shove Donna down the stairs?). But it was 1994, I lived and saw this in Europe, and would not have internet at my disposal until a year after that. And I never looked back.

I have reached the end. In the season 5 finale Kelly *almost* becomes a lesbian, Steve hits on a transvestite, Brandon makes out with Valerie, Ray pushes Donna down the stairs, and Dylan gets dangled out of a funicular by a mobster. Everything has become so ridiculous *all the time* I'm now inclined to accept Alfred's initial estimation that after the first 2 seasons any semblance of recognizable teenage reality began to be eroded in favor of silly soap opera hijinks.

Dylan's past-life regressions were p funny tho. I think I liked "Hobo Dylan" the best.

Wife and I did a complete re-watch a few years back and I remember being pleasantly surprised by the second-to-last season, whichever one that is. If memory serves, Valerie puts the show on her back and carries it. Don’t give up yet!
