this show is like it's always sunny in philadelphia to me; it's def funny but it only has one mode and the energy is always exactly the same, so it's just tiresome to watch
I like this show a good bit, but I get this.

Er, I’d be a little more generous, just is one that I can only do in 1-2 episode stretches.
― circa1916, Saturday, 23 September 2017 02:29 (six years ago) link
luckily it's designed to be watched in 1-episode stretches

holy fuck just saw the bit about R&M fans harassing female writing staff. ftr I support punching both Nazis and the unfuckables who doxx the woman who wrote pickle rick. are you fucking kidding me.

Ha, otm.
I'm still pacing my way through season 2, which has been great. I love the show's dedication to alien landscapes that look largely like (or actually are) butts, and also its hilarious lack of effort in naming characters or other aliens. Like, "This is my friend, uh, Gleep Glorp." Or "Mr. Poopybutthole."

I think the tone can actually shift pretty radically on this show between episodes, I don't find it nearly as one more as always sunny or say archer
It's also insane that these nerds have decided the show sucks now that women write it when the show is obviously the best its ever been

Not that I have any yearning to see R&M go full South Park. But if they had an episode where they mocked/emasculated those “unfuckables” I would be massively amused.

Finally caught up with the most recent three episodes. Agree that this season is knocking it out of the park, and I can't imagine how tough it was to pull off that Citadel episode. Most of the Mortys are voiced just differently enough to distinguish them, but they're all still Morty.
Favorite moment:

Finally finished the second season. Good stuff, it's all so cynical I can't tell if the sentimental music cues - Mazzy Star, Elliott Smith, NIN's "Hurt" - are part of the joke.

Yeah this is an important point and I noticed it. Roiland's a pretty decent voice actor these days.

Saw that Harmon interview where he derides "The Purge" as "good enough" or something, and I thought, huh? I liked that one better than the Mad Max one, as far as riffs on movies go - or I like them equally - but more importantly, "The Purge" gave a satisfying payoff to seeing them in the exosuits every credit sequence. For that matter, the excellent rule of threes payoff when you hear a muffled "Feels Good" playing offscreen before they go on a rampage made me laugh my ass off.

i liked morty's mindblowers but in general i agree. am really not a fan of rick's "i'm a cool dude drinkin martinis" stance, which feels like a a shift. he was always an alcoholic but it was always kinda scary and ambiguous, now it feels faintly fedora-ish (though i could be projecting this latest sauce thing onto it)

I'm still very uncomfy with the fact these guys did a pilot cartoon that literally involved a man making his grandson suck his dick to make a time machine work.
I like the show a lot, but this keeps really, really bugging me. It was disgusting.
― Stoop Crone (Trayce), Tuesday, 10 October 2017 00:17 (six years ago) link
Not "these guys" (just Roiland), not a pilot, and eleven years ago, as a short joke in frustrated response to threats from Bill Cosby's lawyers. (Not that anyone oughtn't feel grossed out about it, but it isn't actually an intentional part of the development of "Rick & Morty," of which I've seen 3 or 4 episodes so am therefore a Nazi.)
