R&M-haters on twitter have grown moderately louder in the past 2-3 weeks.

billstevejim, Friday, 22 September 2017 21:00 (eight years ago)

Over/under 25% of those people actually watch the show?

I'll take the under

Well that is pretty gross.

Not that it matters but Jessica Gao is one of the best writers on the show, responsible for Pickle Rick among others

this show is like it's always sunny in philadelphia to me; it's def funny but it only has one mode and the energy is always exactly the same, so it's just tiresome to watch

sleepingbag, Saturday, 23 September 2017 00:49 (eight years ago)

O look who it is

I like this show a good bit, but I get this.

circa1916, Saturday, 23 September 2017 02:27 (eight years ago)

Er, I’d be a little more generous, just is one that I can only do in 1-2 episode stretches.

circa1916, Saturday, 23 September 2017 02:29 (eight years ago)

luckily it's designed to be watched in 1-episode stretches

holy fuck just saw the bit about R&M fans harassing female writing staff. ftr I support punching both Nazis and the unfuckables who doxx the woman who wrote pickle rick. are you fucking kidding me.

Ha, otm.

I'm still pacing my way through season 2, which has been great. I love the show's dedication to alien landscapes that look largely like (or actually are) butts, and also its hilarious lack of effort in naming characters or other aliens. Like, "This is my friend, uh, Gleep Glorp." Or "Mr. Poopybutthole."

Josh in Chicago, Saturday, 23 September 2017 16:00 (eight years ago)

poor old mr poopy butthole

illegal economic migration (Tracer Hand), Saturday, 23 September 2017 16:29 (eight years ago)

I think the tone can actually shift pretty radically on this show between episodes, I don't find it nearly as one more as always sunny or say archer

It's also insane that these nerds have decided the show sucks now that women write it when the show is obviously the best its ever been

Listen to my homeboy Fantano (D-40), Sunday, 24 September 2017 17:50 (eight years ago)

Not that I have any yearning to see R&M go full South Park. But if they had an episode where they mocked/emasculated those “unfuckables” I would be massively amused.

Finally caught up with the most recent three episodes. Agree that this season is knocking it out of the park, and I can't imagine how tough it was to pull off that Citadel episode. Most of the Mortys are voiced just differently enough to distinguish them, but they're all still Morty.

Favorite moment:

Watched the 'outtakes' episode last night and woke up this morning with my laptop still on beside my bed, lights off, trying to recall if I'd watched the whole thing or fallen asleep first... PSYCH PSYCH PSYCH!

haha nice

illegal economic migration (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 26 September 2017 13:34 (eight years ago)

Finally finished the second season. Good stuff, it's all so cynical I can't tell if the sentimental music cues - Mazzy Star, Elliott Smith, NIN's "Hurt" - are part of the joke.

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 26 September 2017 14:02 (eight years ago)

Yeah this is an important point and I noticed it. Roiland's a pretty decent voice actor these days.

Stoop Crone (Trayce), Wednesday, 27 September 2017 01:13 (eight years ago)

He's been the Mozart of voice actors since Adventure Time's Lemongrab days.

Chocolate-covered gummy bears? Not ruling those lil' guys out. (ulysses), Wednesday, 27 September 2017 17:48 (eight years ago)

Saw that Harmon interview where he derides "The Purge" as "good enough" or something, and I thought, huh? I liked that one better than the Mad Max one, as far as riffs on movies go - or I like them equally - but more importantly, "The Purge" gave a satisfying payoff to seeing them in the exosuits every credit sequence. For that matter, the excellent rule of threes payoff when you hear a muffled "Feels Good" playing offscreen before they go on a rampage made me laugh my ass off.

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 28 September 2017 20:30 (eight years ago)

Also it has one of my favorite throwaway lines.

so like

do they believe the dipping sauce is actually notably good and worth going to effort to obtain because the cartoon character said it was,or

Dadjokke (Sgt. Biscuits), Sunday, 8 October 2017 16:58 (eight years ago)

my son talked me into taking him to a McDonald's for this yesterday and of course there was no sauce to be had

odds that when it arrives in the mail, it's just tubs of Arby's sauce married together?

yesterday nerds once again ruined what was a fun tossoff in-joke

fuck you, your hat is horrible (Neanderthal), Sunday, 8 October 2017 18:55 (eight years ago)

I put just as much blame (or more) on McDonalds for trying to cash in on this tossoff in-joke, which they should have left at sending the creators some sauce or probably just making one tweet. The whole sitch is so dumb

Vinnie, Monday, 9 October 2017 00:41 (eight years ago)

In terms of the sauce cartoon itself, I feel like it fell off pretty hard after the citadel episode

Dadjokke (Sgt. Biscuits), Monday, 9 October 2017 13:26 (eight years ago)

i liked morty's mindblowers but in general i agree. am really not a fan of rick's "i'm a cool dude drinkin martinis" stance, which feels like a a shift. he was always an alcoholic but it was always kinda scary and ambiguous, now it feels faintly fedora-ish (though i could be projecting this latest sauce thing onto it)

illegal economic migration (Tracer Hand), Monday, 9 October 2017 13:43 (eight years ago)

Well, at some point he basically exists as a God, right? It's hard to make that too compelling.

Josh in Chicago, Monday, 9 October 2017 14:20 (eight years ago)

yeah they acknowledge that he's basically a god in the show's universe. As referenced below, and during basically the entire season finale

bodak horseman (voodoo chili), Monday, 9 October 2017 14:25 (eight years ago)

I like that they seem to be moving away from that idea by making him the low man on the totem pole in the Smith family--sure he can do anything, but he can't force his family to love and respect him. should be interesting to explore that

bodak horseman (voodoo chili), Monday, 9 October 2017 14:28 (eight years ago)

Rick seems to have shifted more into being a high-functioning psychopath rather than the drooling, burping, stuttering fuckup drunk he was in S1, and people love those high-functioning psychopaths.

got it, have found and watched since posting. not bad, still inventive but a bit more on the family guy spectrum on the way out the door.
