i like the tofu spring rolls but yeah, would never do their sushi

Anyone had the mango sticky rice rolls?

Their organic peanut butter is not very good.

I have,thought they were fairly good, but be careful, the mango takes on a napalm-like quality when it heats up.

Their sushi truly tastes like food poisoning

i'd imagine the sushi is popular among those who would also buy it at a deli

Do all the TJ's locations have sushi? I haven't looked, but that seems like a weird item for their distribution chain

I'm really skeptical of the grocery store sushi but the couple stores I've seen people buying it at actually have a guy who comes in for a few hours each day to prepare it, presumably traveling between stores throughout the day

I like whole foods sushi, but it costs as much as restaurant sushi. you can pick up other stuff while there, though. so it is good last resort sushi imo.

Just ate Whole Foods sushi, really quite good.

But I'm a soy sauce/wasabi slurry kind of guy, so you probably can't trust me.

I'm not that much of a disgusting savage. Even I have my limits.

if you have leftover pickled ginger at the end of the meal, do you eat the whole stack at once?

Only if it has a chunk of wasabi on it.

favoring victorian-style sushi ornamented with multiple sauces and "outrageous" insides (e.g. beef, jalapeno-fried things, etc.) is the greatest sushi crime, though this is a very "just watched jiro dreams of sushi" opinion to have. minor wasabi or ginger crimes are a good way to convince others that you are also gross, just less gross than the sauced up sushi eaters.

i've come around on junk-food rolls, but i still love the simple basics the best -sashimi, nigiri etc

Long ago discovered I liked sushi (the rice) and wasabi (even fake) more than the raw fish, which means I can enjoy a huge sushi happy hour meal with vegetable rolls for not much money.

A local sushi restaurant makes "Teardrop Rolls" with real wasabi as the only filling. They have a customer for life.

I just love allyl isothiocyanate, the pungent component of wasabi, horseradish, and mustard.

wasabi is fantastic. a colleague regularly brings wasabi flavored stuff from hawaii into the office. they all give you the inhaled-water-through-your-nose feeling that is somehow enjoyable.

xxp i guess there's a distinction to be made between junk-food rolls on the menu at a typical sushi place and the comic sans "signature" rolls at somewhere like this place, which is way overpriced for junk-food rolls

none of those places are TJs nor do they sell wasabi (outside of their vile sushi portions)
i am sad to report i can no longer live without a bag of their "cruciferous crunch" blend in my fridge at all times
i hate being dependent on TJs products but here i am

I had WF sushi for lunch thanks to this thread. Almost bought a beer to smuggle in to the office but decided not to. I usually get Vons (Safeway) sushi so I am stepping up my game by going to WF.

Yes! But I was thinking, for $9.39 there's a lot of other food I would like too.

this is such an old boring dad thing to say but i am recently appreciating the relative plethora of low-sodium options at trader joes, particularly for snacking
