hmm i've watched every episode but have no recollection of this [/stoner]
on that note i'm rewatching from season 1. v v funny but also helping to put in perspective, now confident there is no drop-off in season 3
― flopson, Sunday, 17 September 2017 22:24 (eight years ago)
one thing that got a lot better is rick's ad-libbing
― flopson, Sunday, 17 September 2017 22:25 (eight years ago)
Enjoyed the last couple of episodes but disagree that this season is any better than the previous ones. The first couple of eps of s1 are a bit 'finding its feet' but other than that it's gold
― Shat Parp (dog latin), Monday, 18 September 2017 09:51 (eight years ago)
Last nights ep was pretty dece. The funniest thing for me tho was something happening in the background for 5 seconds - House Hunters! I almost died laughing, and it was such a dumb joke.
― Stoop Crone (Trayce), Monday, 18 September 2017 22:48 (eight years ago)
i wanted to spend a little more time with the Truth Tortoise.
More Tortoise!

Just saw Total Rickall, what a dark, hilarious - but also dark - show this is.
― Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 19 September 2017 18:19 (eight years ago)
sandman references wrt truth tortoise very nerdyloved that the punchline to mindblowers was that summer is THE TRUE PUPPETMASTER

Rick breaks fourth wall often. Morty and Summer were subtly approaching this in the new one.
― billstevejim, Tuesday, 19 September 2017 20:01 (eight years ago)
I guess I'm thinking of when he said "Save it for Youtube" or whatever the quote was.
― billstevejim, Tuesday, 19 September 2017 20:02 (eight years ago)
Harmon suggested "Interdimensional Cable" was gonna be their "Treehouse Of Horror" so I guess they gave up on that idea.
― billstevejim, Tuesday, 19 September 2017 20:05 (eight years ago)
this wasn't the world's most mind blowing ep but it was a very clever way of doing a 'clip show of clips you haven't seen' ep lol
― Listen to my homeboy Fantano (D-40), Tuesday, 19 September 2017 21:52 (eight years ago)
Harmon and co. did a similar thing in the third season of Community
― rock and roll tucci coo (voodoo chili), Tuesday, 19 September 2017 22:05 (eight years ago)
I guess it was the inverse of Total Rickall which was a clip show of clips that even the characters on the show never saw.

my favorite part was the light switch joke. one of those jokes you might hear in a bar, but with extra wtfness.
― Einstein, Kazanga, Sitar (abanana), Wednesday, 20 September 2017 19:57 (eight years ago)
the part with Morty using the magnet to attract hot girls was hilarious only cos it was painfully obv what he was going to do the moment he started inching towards the machine

xpost lol yeah "grab a shovel".

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Rick and Morty. The humour is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical physics most of the jokes will go over a typical viewers head. There's also Rick's nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation- his personal philosophy draws heavily from Narodnaya Volya literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these jokes, to realise that they're not just funny- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Rick & Morty truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humour in Rick's existential catchphrase "Wubba Lubba Dub Dub," which itself is a cryptic reference to Turgenev's Russian epic Fathers and Sons. I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Dan Harmon's genius wit unfolds itself on their television screens. What fools.. how I pity them. šAnd yes, by the way, i DO have a Rick & Morty tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the ladies' eyes only- and even then they have to demonstrate that they're within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand. Nothin personnel kid š

The shift toward that stuff has been amazing - it's an Adult Swim stoner cartoon for fuck's sake.

can't wait for the "I liked Rick and Morty PRIOR to Pickle Rick, Posers" Reddit

Maybe I'm naive to how comically pathetic people can be, but that post and a good chunk of the stuff posted on the ilx Reddit thread totally come off as fake.
― circa1916, Thursday, 21 September 2017 02:18 (eight years ago)
yeah circa it's a good pt - it seems like some level of trolling
― Week of Wonders (Ross), Thursday, 21 September 2017 02:19 (eight years ago)
idk I had someone in earnest tell me that if I didn't think he was "one hell if an intellectual" that I could go get fucked
― Neanderthal, Thursday, 21 September 2017 02:19 (eight years ago)
this one has to be trolling, but probably it's based on moronic superiority comments people have actually said when talking about the show
― Vinnie, Thursday, 21 September 2017 06:28 (eight years ago)

that's the original comment they're making fun of. no idea if that one is for real or not tho.
i don't want to know anything about hardcore fans of this show unless they are ITT or my IRL pals, it'll just ruin it

Not that it matters but Jessica Gao is one of the best writers on the show, responsible for Pickle Rick among others

this show is like it's always sunny in philadelphia to me; it's def funny but it only has one mode and the energy is always exactly the same, so it's just tiresome to watch
― sleepingbag, Saturday, 23 September 2017 00:49 (eight years ago)
