I stopped using touch ID to unlock my phone because of the whole police thing (even though it's not like I get stopped by police). However I did like using it for bank apps and the app store. I'm not going to fucking hold the phone up to my face like a chump every time I need to check my account balance. Fuck that. That's borderline google glass.

Is this wireless charging thing supposed to work through a case?

Same here. My new SE does not play music as well as my old ipod touch. No idea where to check the dac specs.

My 6+ is probably good for awhile longer but it has started to do this slightly ominous thing of spontaneously popping up with the 'ringer off' or 'headphones silent' notifications when I'm not even touching it. Also it's too big but you all know that.

Is my reading of he specs correct in that they are now down to two models a China/Verizon/sprint model and an everyone else model.

That in itself might be a reason to upgrade. my Aus/Hong Kong model 6plus is fine in Asia, acceptable in the US and terrible at getting 4g in Europe.

fair but phones (especially ones running ios with its application silos and restrictions) and are a much easier deployment target than general purpose computer

only run containerized apps on my pc, problem solved

ok so ios 11 is out. anyone have anything to report? I wanna update my 6+ but I have the natural caution of someone with lots of half-finished not-backed-up music projects on my phone...

Seems to be murdering my battery life but too early to tell if that’s a permanent change. 32-bit apps die, RIP rockband. Otherwise ... fine?

nothing crucial. "Phone Story" hasn't worked for a while anyway. I just held out hope that it would one day and someone would appreciate that I had it on my iphone still.

Yes, for my mental health I had to eventually give up trying to get them to unlock my out-of-contract iPhone and had to sell it locked to EE instead. Then I quit them for Three and haven't looked back.

Battery life is now noticeably worse on my 7 plus after updating to IOS 11. Apart from that, not much difference so far.

control center is super nice

trying to figure out if my first gen watch is having battery issues or if something was screwed up

hopefully it just sorts itself out under the new watchOS

now when my phone wakes up, instead of just fading into my desktop, it starts at a brighter color and then changes. It's ugly. And the calculator icon is ugly. Some of the visual design choices are weird.

Pro tip buy PCalc and you get your choice of icons and a better calculator.

yeah i am definitely not upgrading my 6, sounds like a flaky release all round

(to ios 11 i mean, will probably get an iphone 8 at some point though)

can't fathom being reluctant to upgrade a phone and blase about a desktop os upgrade that force upgrades the filesystem (unless it's one of the disks they can't reliably upgrade yet)

I was all set for my usual "I have an old handset (6) that'll be slowed down so I'll avoid this as long as possible" and then I read something that convinced me to give it a go anyway and I'm so glad I did: if launch times are slower I haven't noticed and the speed gains from the new control centre make it totally worth it.

It helps that I finally discovered that holding down the new tab key in Safari allows you do close all tabs at once – I had hundreds and I can now get to the url box much more quickly after launch Safari, which is still my #1 way to search despite Gboard.

The new screenshot management and screen recording function are really nice too.

can't upgrade to iOS 11 because not compatible with flappy bird

New control center was great, then realized night shift button was gone and couldn’t be added via customization and I hated it, then found it by holding the brightness slider and love it again.

Also it feels much faster on my 6s. Touch ID unlocks in a fraction of a second now which surprised me.

i like this so far but there's a lot of zoomy reveals in email particularly that i find distracting - you'd think "reduce motion" would have put paid to that sort of FRIVOLITY

On phone, you can’t add particular apps to the control center right? Just the limited choices that are offered in settings?

I wish you could remove screen mirroring. Ain’t got no time for that.
