My line of thought is that I bought my last iPhone 3 years back and I did want a new one, so I'll get an 8+ and wait at least two years for whatever inevitable weird problems the X has/creates to be addressed. Also I had banked enough for what I figured the X costs so hey, bonus.

I've downgraded from 7s+ to 6s and am pretty happy, especially having the headphone jack back. Pretty much the only thing I miss is the portrait camera, and that's all I like the look of in the X.

TBH, I'm sick of apps, pissed off by driven engagement, tired of my inability to focus on things because of insanely checking social media and getting pretty Luddite about how both I and other people use phones in public/work situations — it's like the meeting full of laptops, but everywhere, all the time.

What I think I really want is a dumb phone with WhatsApp and iMessage, plus maps and music. Seems like the new watch might be good for that, actually.

If only there was a portable camera as good as the one on the X looks.

Fujifilm X100F is somewhat portable.

Those are two essential things. So it's not interesting at all, to me. They'll never bring back the jack, and biometric shenanigans will only advance. And if they can, Apple will use and embrace it. It won't matter in sales anyway.

I'm sticking with my 5S till they pry it from my cold dead hands. After that: no apple.

Maybe the 8? A high priority is battery life. I don't like being out all day and feeling like I have to avoid using my phone to be sure I'll have enough to get home.
