I didn't realise her Dad was an arsehole Tory before - though I guess I know they were rich/aristocratic, so I shouldn't have been surprised.

From BMC Injury Epidemiology: Death is certain, the time is not: mortality and survival in Game of Thrones
Of the 330 characters that were included, 186 (56.4%) had died by the end of the study period. All but 2 deaths were due to injury, burns, or poisoning, with the majority being caused by assault (63.0%) or operations of war (24.4%). The survival time ranged from 11 s to 57 h and 15 min, with the median survival time estimated to be 28 h and 48 min. The probability of surviving at least 1 h in the show was 0.86 (95% CI 0.82 to 0.89). The analyses revealed worse survival for characters who were male (P < 0.001), lowborn (P < 0.001), had not switched allegiance during the show (P < 0.001), and who featured more prominently in the show (P < 0.001). After adjusting for other factors, whether or not a character had switched allegiance during the show and how prominently a character featured in the show were revealed to be independent predictors of death. The mortality risk is high among characters in Game of Thrones. The probability of dying within the first hour after first appearing on screen was about 14%. By the end of the seventh season, more than half of the important characters had died, with violent deaths being the most common by far. The probability of survival was worse for characters who were male or lowborn, who had not switched allegiance during the show, and who featured more prominently. There is great potential for preventing violent deaths in the world of Game of Thrones.

Heh, occupation type is coded as silk collar / boiled leather collar instead of white collar / blue collar
― Dan I., Friday, 14 December 2018 16:56 (seven years ago)
yes but in a world where people get resurrected all the fucking time and time is not strictly linear what is the point of mortality stats?
― thomasintrouble, Friday, 14 December 2018 17:04 (seven years ago)
what is the point of any of this nonsensical show tbh
― Οὖτις, Friday, 14 December 2018 17:05 (seven years ago)
lol asking about the "point" of a tv show

was in nyc last weekend and came out of a subway station to see an big billboard ad (first I'd seen) for the upcoming season and was all kinds of stoked. had p much forgotten about it. think it'll get much promotion this spring?
― tobo73, Friday, 14 December 2018 18:37 (seven years ago)
nah, I'm sure HBO has no interest in promoting their lone current big hit
― Οὖτις, Friday, 14 December 2018 18:42 (seven years ago)
i can't beeelliiiiiiiiiiieve this fucking wait for 6 more episodes. i know that there's a big battle and it took several lifetimes to film and it was miserable and that it will rule and all of that, but come ON
― Karl Malone, Friday, 14 December 2018 18:43 (seven years ago)
whenever I think about this show now I get "game of thrones" stuck in my head to the tune of the theme song from that movie "Scavenger Hunt" that is "play to win"
― sarahell, Friday, 14 December 2018 19:58 (seven years ago)
and then the image of various GoT characters in small groups trying to collect items on the list, but I have a very hazy memory of the movie and all I remember is Dom Deluise, and a neurotic woman in a french maid costume and something about a toilet ... so now my expectations of the final 6 episodes are kinda like that
― sarahell, Friday, 14 December 2018 19:59 (seven years ago)
GoT is one of the only fantasy epics that doesn't seem to involve a scavenger hunt for rings or Horcruxes or whatever

A year ago I thought I might not bother finishing this but now I'm looking forward to it, but I don't think I'll tune in each week because I'm sick of that palaver and wont do it again unless something really incredible comes out.
― Robert Adam Gilmour, Friday, 14 December 2018 20:57 (seven years ago)
Game of Thrones is forever associated with "Game of Love" by Daft Punk since around the time I started watching Game of Thrones I also listened to Random Access Memories a lot.

if westeros does adopt democracy, electing the guy who can see the future wouldn't be the worst choice.
― voodoo chili, Tuesday, 5 March 2019 23:22 (seven years ago)
Wait, Littlefinger is on that list, and he's dead (I think)!
― Gaseous Clay (Leee), Tuesday, 5 March 2019 23:26 (seven years ago)
there's some talk about him NOT being dead as he's been linked to being around the set for filming.

Jamie sitting on the throne after murdering his sister before she could unleash something awful, echoing his experience with the mad king.

― jmm, Wednesday, 6 March 2019 14:15 (seven years ago)
Rooting for Arya or the Night King. The show was terrible last season.
Show was never better as when and should have continued as Arya and the Hound wandering a war-torn countryside getting into adventures like Lone Wolf and Cub.
― Mazzy Tsar (PBKR), Wednesday, 6 March 2019 15:21 (seven years ago)
the medieval brutality and hopelessness and absurd but compelling cruelty of the first four seasons seems very far away now, it's definitely turning into Avengers: Westeros at this point. I did enjoy last season, the scope and spectacle is just a good time imo, but it's not nearly the same show.
― omar little, Wednesday, 6 March 2019 17:12 (seven years ago)
otm, though of course a decent chunk of those first 4 seasons was a total slog
― bhad bundy (Simon H.), Wednesday, 6 March 2019 17:12 (seven years ago)
maybe and yet it all felt part of a carefully thought-out narrative that was closing off any means of escape for so many characters we liked in ways that were really actually shocking and not in ways that seemed cheap or unearned.
― omar little, Wednesday, 6 March 2019 17:21 (seven years ago)
no I agree with that. two very different feelings and the former was rarer. but the thought of watching s2 again with no fast forward option fills me with dread
― bhad bundy (Simon H.), Wednesday, 6 March 2019 17:26 (seven years ago)
glad to hear i'm not alone in thinking last season felt like padding and soap opera. Perhaps in closing they'll step up their game to the heights of s3 and s6... if i'm remembering correctly.
