"Post at peril" still the leading post strategy, and I'm fine with that tbh.

A crappy search function is what sets ilx apart, makes it unique imo.

ilx's backwardness is one of its lovable quirks

"jump to most recent revive" at the top of the thread

i.e. to most recent "x years/months pass..."

i like the hunt

two months pass...

totally an unnecessary luxury but it'd be neat to have "drafts" for new threads. i just wrote up a new thread but i need to think about it some more.

willing to debug/test stuff too if you're in need

Ban polls and close ilm

Gary Synaesthesia (darraghmac), Wednesday, 8 November 2017 12:39 (eight years ago)

maybe it would be nice to be able to hide threads?

this would be dope

Simon H., Friday, 10 November 2017 16:07 (eight years ago)

I had written a GreaseMonkey script that hides thread. It was on another computer, but maybe I can do it again.

Dinsdale, Friday, 10 November 2017 21:05 (eight years ago)

What thread would you hide?

calstars, Friday, 10 November 2017 21:06 (eight years ago)

there's at least one fairly obvious contender floating near the top of ILE since it was started this morning

Simon H., Friday, 10 November 2017 21:08 (eight years ago)

Really? I haven't checked "New Questions" latel – OH GOOD FUCKING GRIEF.

- the ability to sort search results by date

calstars, Saturday, 11 November 2017 19:03 (eight years ago)

you can sort the search results by newest first or oldest first,

Karl Malone, Saturday, 11 November 2017 19:04 (eight years ago)

Brilliant thank you KM!

calstars, Saturday, 11 November 2017 19:07 (eight years ago)

So I re-made that script for hiding threads. Here it is for anyone who wants it. Obviously you need Firefox with the Greasemonkey extension for it to work. It's pretty rough but it does the job as far as I'm concerned.

Dinsdale, Sunday, 12 November 2017 20:30 (eight years ago)

Killfile hasn't worked for me in awhile. On Chrome.

Why? Standard social media practice

Random Shitposter (calstars), Friday, 29 December 2017 02:53 (eight years ago)

Search function already allows a similar level of creepiness without automation.

El Tomboto, Friday, 29 December 2017 03:03 (eight years ago)

When you search for threads, in the search results maybe the number of posts in a thread could be shown. Not sure if it's worth the effort but I'm just thinking of it being helpful if you're trying to find the most popular threads on topics w/a lot of different threads.

omar little, Friday, 29 December 2017 03:35 (eight years ago)

yes, has been mentioned before, would indeed be helpful

niels, Friday, 29 December 2017 07:34 (eight years ago)

a way to sort search results by the number of posts in each thread. i'm trying to bump the most frequently used grateful dead thread to talk about the new doc, but there's a million threads and in those cases it would be super useful to be able to just pick the one that has the most posts

Also it requires an extra step -- you have to consciously say "ok, I am searching for all of this person's posts" and live with yourself as you sift through that person's scattered posted thoughts looking for whatever it is that you're looking for.

the fact that this is how it's done elsewhere is not persuasive at all for me. one reason i like ilx is because the focus is on the topic of conversation (the thread) instead of the cult of personality that develops (and is developed) by a "follow this person" approach

weird woman in a bar (La Lechera), Friday, 29 December 2017 14:16 (eight years ago)

agree, ILX was a lot more boring for me when it was a place for buddy time ("jackoff sesh" era) or when people are working through their grudges together (same thing as buddy time imo, in a very male way). many of those posters are gone or post infrequently now and it's considerably less boring here (this is another reason why I find twitter inscrutable as something I'd want to do---it seems entirely people focused and ugh at those people, shameless self-promoters and self-absorbed nincompoops)

droit au butt (Euler), Friday, 29 December 2017 15:00 (eight years ago)

Well I just thought it would be a way to see what posters I’m a fan of have been up to. I guess I’ll have to learn how to “live with myself” and not feel “creepy” for wanting to read what they have to say.

calstars, Friday, 29 December 2017 15:11 (eight years ago)

yeah one of the brilliant things abt ilx design is having the poster at the bottom of the post. you can often tell who it is and you will gradually build up a sense of ppl's voices and opinions, so it's not like pretending we're in some 90s internet fantasy where identity doesn't matter, but you interact as much with the post as the poster and the interface isn't set up to make the poster into more than that - no avatars or post counts or ranks or easy click-throughs to this person's whole history...idk it could survive some additional features in this department but the current mix is really nice imo.

Otm

kolakube (Ross), Friday, 29 December 2017 15:18 (eight years ago)

Speaking of, it is still infuriating that on zing, the posters name is on the top. Why can’t these match?

Jeff, Friday, 29 December 2017 15:19 (eight years ago)

That’s a good point. Zing should do that too

El Tomboto, Friday, 29 December 2017 15:19 (eight years ago)

Lol duh read the thread self

El Tomboto, Friday, 29 December 2017 15:20 (eight years ago)

XP euler considerably more boring now fyi

remember the lmao (darraghmac), Friday, 29 December 2017 15:20 (eight years ago)

nah I've always been boring

droit au butt (Euler), Friday, 29 December 2017 15:26 (eight years ago)

Ha no i meant xp to u

Ilx more boring now.

But i mean if it's creepy it's creepy no arguing with that

remember the lmao (darraghmac), Friday, 29 December 2017 15:29 (eight years ago)

I guess so! If you were that interested, you could probably follow them on the social media platform of your choice.

weird woman in a bar (La Lechera), Friday, 29 December 2017 15:44 (eight years ago)

ilx is just match.com for pseudointellectuals to find each other off board where the interesting conversations are happening

Mordy, Friday, 29 December 2017 15:48 (eight years ago)

if I wanted interesting off board conversations I'd go to work

but I keep ILE off SNA, I'm really only here for ILM & ILG plus a few ILE bookmarks

droit au butt (Euler), Friday, 29 December 2017 15:59 (eight years ago)

Bookmark a user is a cool idea but it would probably lead to people with grudges chasing their nemeses across the boards in order to argue with them.
