Nothing about that makes any sense at all. Also the fact that West Brom are apparently willing to drop £15m on Kevin Wimmer as a replacement.

Matt DC, Friday, 18 August 2017 15:30 (eight years ago)

Guessing they're both dependent on the Sanchez deal going through.

Matt DC, Friday, 18 August 2017 15:31 (eight years ago)

is there anyone worth less than 10m in the league?

john walters went for 3m. i know he's not amazing but it does feel a huge chasm between him and all other deals. how many clubs are going to be bankrupt in about 3 years?

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Friday, 18 August 2017 15:32 (eight years ago)

Liverpool reject 114m bid for Coutinho.

If they really won't sell, they won't. But Barca is desperate, with a disastrous start to the season and Neymar-money to burn, but no-one will take it. Liverpool could squeeze 150m out of this if they want.

Le Bateau Ivre, Friday, 18 August 2017 15:35 (eight years ago)

mane is a bigger deal for liverpool than coutinho. but 150m that they can't spend or don't know how to spend is never ever worth it.

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Friday, 18 August 2017 15:36 (eight years ago)

Otm, I hope he stays, too. It's funny that the outrageous amount paid for Neymar is something Barca can't buy someone for (same with Dembele apparently), unless they slap nearly all of it on the table.

Le Bateau Ivre, Friday, 18 August 2017 15:38 (eight years ago)

barca are on the edge of becoming a bit of a joke, this summer. they are actually desperate to sign anybody, like fucking whoever, just to wave in front of the fans.

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Friday, 18 August 2017 15:41 (eight years ago)

#supportersinglasshouses

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Friday, 18 August 2017 15:42 (eight years ago)

Think Barca becoming a joke is a bit much. They never, ever expected PSG to actually buy out Neymar. No one did. It was an unprecedented move spinning the market out of whack.

It's a beautiful paradox: they can't sign their desired players because they have too much money.

Le Bateau Ivre, Friday, 18 August 2017 15:48 (eight years ago)

it's the same for a bunch of clubs. everyone is so rich that their money is worth less.

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Friday, 18 August 2017 15:50 (eight years ago)

apparently some clubs believe psg are deliberately bidding way, way above even what's necessary, to squeeze the market, as well as obv for the purpose of getting their targets.

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Friday, 18 August 2017 15:51 (eight years ago)

Exactly. If the Neymar deal hadn't happened, I'm certain Liverpool would've accepted a 90/100m bid for Coutinho in a heartbeat. xp

Le Bateau Ivre, Friday, 18 August 2017 15:51 (eight years ago)

i don't think they would have - i'm not even convinced they'll sell him at any price but it's harder to tell.

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Friday, 18 August 2017 15:56 (eight years ago)

It's guess work. I do think they won't sell him this period.

I'm really curious what will happen with VvD and Soton. Who will win the staring contest?

Le Bateau Ivre, Friday, 18 August 2017 15:58 (eight years ago)

i doubt he'll go either - they're v determined not to sell and he won't go as far as going on strike or whatever.

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Friday, 18 August 2017 15:59 (eight years ago)

i'd still like a bit of good news for liverpool before the window closes

gbx, Friday, 18 August 2017 17:26 (eight years ago)

Great news on Sanchez.

On a side note, is it easier for footballers to get a work permit these days? Sanchez has only played for Colombia twice and Richarlison has never represented Brazil at senior level.

they changed the permit rules so that if a transfer costs a certain amount of money the player is assumed to be of the quality required to earn a permit.
xps

wmlynch, Friday, 18 August 2017 19:18 (eight years ago)

actually it looks like it changed to a points-based system, and the points are based on the value of the transfer and the wages, etc. upshot is if you pay a lot, you'll almost always get a work permit.

wmlynch, Friday, 18 August 2017 19:22 (eight years ago)

Ah, thanks.

Wag1 Shree Rajneesh (ShariVari), Friday, 18 August 2017 19:32 (eight years ago)

My theory is that they have engineered a version of fmrte that works in reality.

mizzell, Friday, 18 August 2017 20:07 (eight years ago)

so many puns

imago, Friday, 18 August 2017 20:18 (eight years ago)

why sign two defenders when they had such a mean defence last year?

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Friday, 18 August 2017 20:20 (eight years ago)

these two are young enough to be toby and jan's eventual replacements, but a right back would be good right now.

mizzell, Friday, 18 August 2017 20:25 (eight years ago)

poch seems done with wimmer so cb depth was needed

mizzell, Friday, 18 August 2017 20:27 (eight years ago)

Rashford looks the part rn, but Pogba won't finish this match. On a yellow and losing his head.

Le Bateau Ivre, Saturday, 19 August 2017 12:02 (eight years ago)

Shame Rashford's shit in front of goal really

Neves Say Neves Again (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 19 August 2017 12:10 (eight years ago)

Yeah that was bad. There's so much frustration in this ManU, I hate it and put it down mostly to Mou.

Le Bateau Ivre, Saturday, 19 August 2017 12:12 (eight years ago)

come on

there's 11 men behind the ball

Number None, Saturday, 19 August 2017 12:17 (eight years ago)

delighted for Bailly anyway. We look a threat from set-pieces all of a sudden

Number None, Saturday, 19 August 2017 12:18 (eight years ago)

He was very keen to get that. Though I could watch Pogba's header over and over, such force.

Le Bateau Ivre, Saturday, 19 August 2017 12:19 (eight years ago)

Agreed on set-pieces

Le Bateau Ivre, Saturday, 19 August 2017 12:19 (eight years ago)

United bossed most of that half tbh, need more end.product

Neves Say Neves Again (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 19 August 2017 12:23 (eight years ago)

think we'd have more joy with Martial's dribbling ability second half. Might be an idea to bring in Herrera to take some defensive responsibility off Pogba too

Number None, Saturday, 19 August 2017 12:26 (eight years ago)

I've got 56th minute for the last goal in the pub, that's my main interest now

Neves Say Neves Again (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 19 August 2017 12:28 (eight years ago)

It was Bailly's first professional goal ever. Half expect him to bump the 'I scored a goal ffs'-thread.

Le Bateau Ivre, Saturday, 19 August 2017 12:29 (eight years ago)

Was gonna say Lukaku's not in this at all, but then he doesn't need to be

Le Bateau Ivre, Saturday, 19 August 2017 13:08 (eight years ago)

Pogba you beauty

Le Bateau Ivre, Saturday, 19 August 2017 13:09 (eight years ago)

hell

yes

Number None, Saturday, 19 August 2017 13:12 (eight years ago)

Riot

Le Bateau Ivre, Saturday, 19 August 2017 13:12 (eight years ago)

not so frustrated now?

Number None, Saturday, 19 August 2017 13:15 (eight years ago)

Well there's a few more goals than I expected

Neves Say Neves Again (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 19 August 2017 13:16 (eight years ago)

I concede NN. Really happy with this start.

Le Bateau Ivre, Saturday, 19 August 2017 13:18 (eight years ago)
