yeah i get all that. I'm not sure, I just find the humour to be less madcap. Felt the very first ever episode worked fine as an intro to the characters but still feeling its way around. The universe of R&M really sets in a couple of episodes later. These just haven't tickled me as much as things like Meeseeks, Mr Poopybutthole or the House Party episode. Like, in those the madcap sci-fi action takes place around the family home. In these last ones it's more 'Oh shit is happening at home, so let's fuck off as far away from it as possible for no other reason than we can have an adventure loosely parodying a movie'. It's a matter of taste of course, but to me the manic, unpredictable nature of the humour has been replaced by manic, unpredictable plotlines and situations. The distinction is one of comedy and farce, to me, and while it's still an enjoyable show with some amusing moments, it's not making me laugh or raise my eyebrows in awe (and yeah it is an AWEsome show in many ways) like it once did

S02 def got better as I watched it more. Just the same, S03E01 & S03E02 felt especially packed with subtleties, and I need to watch them a few more times. It's too soon to assess.

Yea that one is huge. Every time I see it I remember that the Eye-Patch Morty story is still unresolved.

can confirm that the last episode made me lol a bit, although i re-watched the Meeseeks episode again the other day and their voices alone had me in stitches

Dog Latin is tripping imo show is better than its ever been, really grabbing onto what's good about it but not so self aware that it's reduced to mannerism

I love this show and that should matter to everyone.

ultra-confident morty cracked me up with nearly every line
another great one. i don't have much to say about it. i'd say the best episodes of the season are 1-2-3 and this one, followed by 5 then 4 easily the worst.
― Einstein, Kazanga, Sitar (abanana), Tuesday, 29 August 2017 09:19 (six years ago) link
Huh I thought this one was the weakest - the premise didn't seem quite as well thought through. Still great though.

i think this week's is going to stand up to repeated viewings better than any other episode so far this season.

gotta agree with chap – fine eposide, but the weakest so far this season.

That was great, but I'm always wanting this show to get more into its sf elements. Actually think it's doing a better job of having fun with the "Council of Reeds" idea than Fantastic Four ever did (tho "fun" wasn't really the goal there, I guess).
― albvivertine, Wednesday, 13 September 2017 21:57 (six years ago) link
Holy shit am I surprised how much I like this show. I'm only on season 2 but it's like (as mentioned)Dr. Who plus Back to the Future plus Beavis and Butthead plus Ren and Stimpy plus Aqua Teen Hunger Force plus Futurama divided by, I dunno, Phineas and Ferb. The only bad thing I can say about it right now is how sure I am there is no way in hell I could get my wife to sit through it.
― Josh in Chicago, Sunday, 17 September 2017 17:05 (six years ago) link
latest ep. is Citadel of Ricks a parody of something specific? some of the jokes seemed like i was supposed to "get" a reference that wasn't there for me
― flopson, Sunday, 17 September 2017 18:56 (six years ago) link
*LOVED latest ep
the marty kid team is based on stand by me, otherwise i don't think there's a specific parody.
― Einstein, Kazanga, Sitar (abanana), Sunday, 17 September 2017 19:49 (six years ago) link
It was definitely pulling from that last Dredd movie a bit, but sorta like the Stand By Me thing, not an outright homage or parody.

I think the most direct ref is the Interdimensional Council of Reeds from Fantastic Four

i went back and watched a bunch of s1 and man, s3 is a huge improvement. a lot of the jokes in some of my fav episodes ("total rickall") don't even land really. Everything feels really tightened up
the cop morty storyline felt very training day

hmm i've watched every episode but have no recollection of this [/stoner]
on that note i'm rewatching from season 1. v v funny but also helping to put in perspective, now confident there is no drop-off in season 3
