the thing w arya giving in to her assassin side, for me, is that i don't think it's an unbelievable development? Given what traumas she's experience and how focused she has been for so long on revenge, it seems natural to me that she would be a remorseless killer. I've said this before but I'd watch a spin-off about Arya the contract killer.

I think it would be a lot less believable really if she went back to being a tough-but-lovable kid.

ian, Tuesday, 15 August 2017 14:35 (eight years ago)

girl's been self-radicalized.

ian, Tuesday, 15 August 2017 14:35 (eight years ago)

agree completely. the list of fucked up shit she's experienced is v v long.

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Tuesday, 15 August 2017 14:47 (eight years ago)

She's still lovable

Robert Adam Gilmour, Tuesday, 15 August 2017 15:29 (eight years ago)

Arya still my favourite character.

wtev, Tuesday, 15 August 2017 15:38 (eight years ago)

Keeping my fingers crossed that Sansa gives Arya a good reason to give her a smackdown

Robert Adam Gilmour, Tuesday, 15 August 2017 15:45 (eight years ago)

Isn't that letter of Sansa's that Littlefinger led Arya to find this week a possible reason?

groovypanda, Tuesday, 15 August 2017 15:50 (eight years ago)

Anyone got a screencap of that, I couldn't read it

Robert Adam Gilmour, Tuesday, 15 August 2017 15:56 (eight years ago)

Robb, I write to you with a heavy heart. Our good king Robert is dead, killed from wounds he took in a boar hunt. Father has been charged with treason. He conspired with Robert’s brothers against my beloved Joffrey and tried to steal his throne. The Lannisters are treating me very well and provide me with every comfort. I beg you: come to King’s Landing, swear fealty to King Joffrey and prevent any strife between the great houses of Lannister and Stark.

I've been listening to SOIAF audiobooks at work and some of difference from the show make me lol:

xps that letter might as well have said "P.S. I am writing this under duress"

rock and roll tucci coo (voodoo chili), Tuesday, 15 August 2017 16:31 (eight years ago)

I want to think Arya would see through it, or at least talk to Bran about it before confronting Sansa.

But I know what show I'm watching, and if it's taking up this precious story time towards the end, it has to be leading towards a sister-sister confrontation.

BTW as a complete aside, is it just me, or does littlefingers "chaos is a ladder" speech make no sense? I've been thinking about it for ages and as an allegory it seems really clumsy?

Stoop Crone (Trayce), Wednesday, 16 August 2017 05:32 (eight years ago)

it's not genius by any means but doesn't he just mean "while everyone is destroying each other you can manipulate things to your advantage"

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 16 August 2017 09:34 (eight years ago)

it's a clumsier version of 'never let a crisis go to waste'

It's basically about liberalism being a superior ideology to feudalism, innit?

Frederik B, Wednesday, 16 August 2017 10:24 (eight years ago)

think you're giving him a bit too much credit there

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 16 August 2017 11:16 (eight years ago)

Now I want the ending to be Littlefinger chosen as First Consul of the Westerosi, but with Lady Stoneheart (the ghost of the common people) lurking on the periphery.

Frederik B, Wednesday, 16 August 2017 11:23 (eight years ago)

hate to break it to you, but Lady Stoneheart will never live like common people

hmm. The metaphor works for me--it seems like one of the main theses of the series: In a rigidly hierarchical class system, the only way for a crafty commoner to ascend to nobility, (or a lower noble to ascend to royalty) is to wait for the realm to fall into chaos and to take advantage of it/be seen as indispensable. (Or in Littlefinger's case create the chaos yourself.) The ladder works because while you can climb a ladder to a higher level, you may also fall off it and crack your head open, particularly if there are other people trying to climb the same ladder at the same time.

President Keyes, Wednesday, 16 August 2017 12:44 (eight years ago)

Nothing more chaotic than a ladder. (I'm terrified of heights, so I probably do agree, actually)

It's like in Hamilton: You’re an orphan. Of course! I’m an orphan! God, I wish there was a war! Then we could prove that we’re worth more than anyone bargained for…

Frederik B, Wednesday, 16 August 2017 13:12 (eight years ago)

Ep6 leaked. Tempted.

wtev, Wednesday, 16 August 2017 15:14 (eight years ago)

There's been a fairly detailed Ep6 summary on Wikipedia for a few hours, so stay away from that if you're concerned about spoilers.

nate woolls, Wednesday, 16 August 2017 15:49 (eight years ago)

ignore that, I just looked and it's gone now

nate woolls, Wednesday, 16 August 2017 15:50 (eight years ago)

I'd be happy to wait but we're away next week so decided to watch it. It's much better quality than the one that leaked a couple of weeks ago.

groovypanda, Wednesday, 16 August 2017 18:22 (eight years ago)

i cracked and watched it.

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 16 August 2017 18:45 (eight years ago)

ditto - til Monday then...

nashwan, Wednesday, 16 August 2017 20:56 (eight years ago)

indeed, as you were.

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 16 August 2017 21:03 (eight years ago)

Careful with leaks - I have heard tell HBO leak files with inbuilt trojan type stuff that shows them who is downloading their stuff.

Stoop Crone (Trayce), Wednesday, 16 August 2017 21:56 (eight years ago)

i think this one should be okay - one of HBO's european arms accidentally leaked the stream and people ripped the stream

, Wednesday, 16 August 2017 22:02 (eight years ago)

This was someone ripping the stream after HBO Norway and Spain accidentally put the episode up on thier platform.

groovypanda, Wednesday, 16 August 2017 22:05 (eight years ago)

Well dude next to me on train is watching it right now so I have to turn my head.

dan selzer, Wednesday, 16 August 2017 22:12 (eight years ago)

Citizen's arrest imo

nashwan, Wednesday, 16 August 2017 22:17 (eight years ago)

the honorable thing to do here would be for HBO to release it ASAP
