watched this a second time, still missed the Davos fewer / less bit, sadly, but when Davos and Jon are walking down and run into Missandei right before Theon shows back up, doesn't it seem like maybe Davos (re?)discovered the stash of good brandy on Dragonstone? He's all gregarious and a little bit of a dick!

El Tomboto, Tuesday, 8 August 2017 02:57 (eight years ago)

definitely davos drunk in that scene. also he says "think i gotta change sides on this one" or "am i allowed to change sides?" or whatever it's a little too ferris bueller looking into the camera and talking for me

Karl Malone, Tuesday, 8 August 2017 03:01 (eight years ago)

Yes my one criticism w this ep was davos' lines were corny

Listen to my homeboy Fantano (D-40), Tuesday, 8 August 2017 03:04 (eight years ago)

can't wait for him and jorah to meet up and get loaded and trade tales of withered boners for dany & missandei

Max-Headroom-drops-a-deuce-while-shredding (Sparkle Motion), Tuesday, 8 August 2017 03:06 (eight years ago)

why can't they just make out and then move to Narth

El Tomboto, Tuesday, 8 August 2017 03:10 (eight years ago)

Davos & Jorah as a retired couple would be the best neighbors ever imo

El Tomboto, Tuesday, 8 August 2017 03:12 (eight years ago)

Speaking of changing sides, my money's on Bronn doing just that in short order.

Stoop Crone (Trayce), Tuesday, 8 August 2017 03:13 (eight years ago)

yeah they seem to have set that up nicely - might not happen next week, but probably before the season is out.

We still have to get to the battle where Beric, The Hound et al. are flailing away in the snow, with full-on sword fire FX

One other thought, I look forward to the "next on..." preview cuts becoming more and more Mad Men as the final resolution approaches, i.e. giving so little plot information that they become complete non sequiturs

El Tomboto, Tuesday, 8 August 2017 03:21 (eight years ago)

I dont understand why theyre doing 2 short seasons

it's a budget thing

Number None, Tuesday, 8 August 2017 11:18 (eight years ago)

isn't it also a way to keep the actors under contract for basically an extra season?

President Keyes, Tuesday, 8 August 2017 12:34 (eight years ago)

yeah just dragging the thing out til they get those spinoffs up and running

Number None, Tuesday, 8 August 2017 12:53 (eight years ago)

I agree with this

She risked her life, watched her brother die, watched Hodor die, dragged Bran across a frozen tundra, drank rabbit’s blood, and all she gets is a half-hearted “thank you”?!

Didn't she make most of these points herself?

President Keyes, Tuesday, 8 August 2017 13:03 (eight years ago)

It's like doing a think piece on Littlefinger: "You know, when you think about it chaos is sort of like a staircase, or a ladder maybe."

President Keyes, Tuesday, 8 August 2017 13:05 (eight years ago)

kinda cracked up when bran did the "yes, he made this thing to help me get around" bit
"he calls it a 'wheeled chair'; i call it a 'hodor'"

Chocolate-covered gummy bears? Not ruling those lil' guys out. (ulysses), Tuesday, 8 August 2017 13:06 (eight years ago)

but the worst part about her ordeal is that not only did Bran not seem to grasp the enormousness of what she’d sacrificed for him, neither did showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss.

What a weird thing to write. They obviously appreciated it since they wrote the lack of appreciation as the text of the very scene being discussed.

Mordy, Tuesday, 8 August 2017 13:08 (eight years ago)

I doubt that's her last scene. Seems like a pointless article.

Robert Adam Gilmour, Tuesday, 8 August 2017 13:12 (eight years ago)

i liked how sansa was like "he has... visions" - her tone and demeanour making it clear she meant "yes bran is back, but he is a weird creep now"

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Tuesday, 8 August 2017 13:17 (eight years ago)

I thought all of the dialogue was shockingly bad and overwritten in this episode, but the dragonfight made up for it.

chap, Tuesday, 8 August 2017 13:22 (eight years ago)

that p much sums up the entire seven seasons

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Tuesday, 8 August 2017 13:24 (eight years ago)

I have a feeling these tv writers watch the show sort of like a lot of ilxors do

President Keyes, Tuesday, 8 August 2017 13:27 (eight years ago)

Somehow missing huge chunks of detail then complaining as if it's the show's fault?

Evan, Tuesday, 8 August 2017 13:35 (eight years ago)

exactly

President Keyes, Tuesday, 8 August 2017 13:37 (eight years ago)

I do wonder if we're going to get to meet old Howland Reed at any point.

El Tomboto, Tuesday, 8 August 2017 13:46 (eight years ago)

I wonder if we'll ever get to see the dragons in action. Some cave painting would be cool too.

President Keyes, Tuesday, 8 August 2017 14:01 (eight years ago)

Davos & Jorah as a retired couple would be the best neighbors ever imo

lol. davos coming around with his homemade mead.

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Tuesday, 8 August 2017 14:34 (eight years ago)

I think the point is that they did a bad job of it: she got barely a couple of sentences of "hey how about a thank you" when she deserved to get to say a whole lot more than that. I did feel somewhat the same at the time.

stet, Tuesday, 8 August 2017 14:49 (eight years ago)

Enh, it was pretty clear pretty quickly that there was no getting through to galaxy bran

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Tuesday, 8 August 2017 14:50 (eight years ago)

I guess for a character who's been around so long and was a part of at least one iconic sequence, she didn't really get to have much depth

President Keyes, Tuesday, 8 August 2017 14:53 (eight years ago)

But at this point anyone who isn't part of the endgame is going to get killed off or shuffled out the door with a gift certificate

President Keyes, Tuesday, 8 August 2017 14:55 (eight years ago)

The Meera actress does a good job on the whole.

chap, Tuesday, 8 August 2017 14:55 (eight years ago)

On 2nd viewing, I felt like Bran's silent response to "you died in that cave" was tacit acknowledgement, and then when he looks back out the window he's perhaps mildly sad at the loss of his humanity. But I'm reading way too much into that.

I hope RAG is correct that we'll see her again. Although I wouldn't put it past this show to just kill a bunch of northern supporting cast in a gut-wrenching montage of Night King conquest.

El Tomboto, Tuesday, 8 August 2017 15:01 (eight years ago)

I got that impression on first viewing.

chap, Tuesday, 8 August 2017 15:03 (eight years ago)

the bran plot line has been the most consistently bad part of the show. playing on the audience's sense of just desserts by finding new and surprising ways to be astonishing cruel to its characters has been a big part of this show's m.o.

ogmor, Tuesday, 8 August 2017 15:08 (eight years ago)

What happened to the Meera is John's sister theories?

dan selzer, Tuesday, 8 August 2017 15:09 (eight years ago)

I think she said everything very succinctly. Most important point being that Bran might not even exist anymore, just a surveillance system that looks like him.

She stars in The Levelling and its supposed to be very good, anyone here seen it?

Robert Adam Gilmour, Tuesday, 8 August 2017 15:11 (eight years ago)

I like Bran's parts. The vision/raven thing is interesting and his settings are nice.

Robert Adam Gilmour, Tuesday, 8 August 2017 15:12 (eight years ago)

What happened to the Meera is John's sister theories?

There was no 2nd baby in that Tower of Joy flashback.

Even if the theory is correct in the books, I see why the showrunners would toss it out.

President Keyes, Tuesday, 8 August 2017 15:27 (eight years ago)

you guys watch this show twice? is that rewarding?

Chocolate-covered gummy bears? Not ruling those lil' guys out. (ulysses), Tuesday, 8 August 2017 15:36 (eight years ago)

I forsee a strong possibility of a lot of frustrating evasion of Bran's condition. It's understandable they're afraid of finding out how much he knows right now (maybe he'll bring up that he's seen every dump you've taken and all your sexual activity) but they're fighting wars so it seems inevitable they'd want to know the full extent of his capabilities within a few days of his return. He could make things much easier and I guess more people will try to kill him if they find out what he can do.

Robert Adam Gilmour, Tuesday, 8 August 2017 16:50 (eight years ago)

/freefolk is a subreddit for GoT enthusiasts who don't mind spoilers

led me to this link which contains fairly detailed plot summaries for all of this season's episodes:

^^interesting stuff, if you don't mind spoilers

niels, Tuesday, 8 August 2017 17:04 (eight years ago)

More or less jumped ship, but I am surprised they are burning through plot so quickly, what with truncated seasons and limited source material. You'd think they'd be taking their time.

Anyway, I'd probably tune in again if there just an episode of the dragons chilling, hunting, doing dragon things. Kind of like a pet-cam.

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 8 August 2017 17:05 (eight years ago)

but I am surprised they are burning through plot so quickly, what with truncated seasons and limited source material.

do you mean the opposite? with truncated season & limited source material its not at all surprising that they're wrapping things up more quickly

at least Josh in Chicago's posts in this thread have gotten shorter

President Keyes, Tuesday, 8 August 2017 20:56 (eight years ago)

xpost I meant I'm surprised they're burning through everything so quickly rather than stretching it out as long as they can.

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 8 August 2017 21:03 (eight years ago)

That's what dragons are for
