local businesses with horribly formed "desserts"

"Know Better" Realty here in Calgary - which works on one level, and is a terrible name for a business on at least two others.

brownie does that sign say Garfield Heights? I just want to make sure I never accidentally buy something from them.

Old Lynch's Sex Paragraph (Phil D.), Tuesday, 8 August 2017 17:24 (eight years ago)

Yes, Dave's Supermarket sells them.

Are they next door to Soapy's Choice?

pplains, Wednesday, 9 August 2017 18:28 (eight years ago)

After careful consideration, I think no business subsequently cited can outdo the very first name in this thread: Dog Barfs.

I was also very close to 'Guns and Roses' in Dewsbury, which sells guns and also flowers. But the bus went the other way

[redacted] started Num Nuts in her Minnesota kitchen. Her passion for cooking and love of simple, healthy foods led her to try roasting her own nuts at home. She experimented with many recipes to find one that she and her kids would like. Unfortunately, most all of the recipes resulted in nuts that were too sweet or too salty or simply unhealthy. Over time she developed a unique recipe and roasting technique that delivered just the right amount of sweetness and saltiness and allowed the delicious flavors of the nuts to shine through.

What she didn't expect was the reaction she would get from others. When she'd bring a bowl of her nuts to a party, the reaction was always the same: "Wow, these are really good nuts! I can't stop eating them!" Requests started flowing in, and [redacted] began to think that it would be fun and fulfilling to start making her nuts available commercially.

'Going To The Dogs' Dog Grooming

https://goo.gl/maps/KK1Fv7SEeWu

Yes, it has 'dog' in the name. But doesn't the saying imply that the shop is getting shitter? Also incorrect if just taken literally, if anything the dogs should be going there.

S-, Thursday, 21 February 2019 02:30 (seven years ago)

Maybe the dogs do the grooming?

pplains, Thursday, 21 February 2019 02:32 (seven years ago)

food cart in my town called "STFU & NOM" - yeah, I'll pass

sold out in presale (sleeve), Thursday, 21 February 2019 16:18 (seven years ago)

It's bad enough that one of our biggest national restaurant chains is called "EAT."

mfktz (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Thursday, 21 February 2019 16:22 (seven years ago)

Well, ok then. It doesn't have a bad pun or double entendre. I just hate it.

I hate "names" that are URLs. I hate the imperative phrasing of it. I hate the personal "my" aspect.

I don't even like the catfish wearing a hat with a hook on it.

Which of these is more offensive to ILXors in terms of name formation?

https://www.mywineguy.com.au/
https://www.yourgrocer.com.au/

S-, Monday, 4 March 2019 05:40 (seven years ago)

I'm not crazy about either of them, since their both assigning "ownership" to the consumer.

But mywineguy is gets extra demerits for bad grammar and intent since it isn't as clear whose "wine guy" were talking about here. Is it me, when I type "my wine guy" into the browser? Or is the owner of the URL?

Or is it Mary Wells?

pplains, Monday, 4 March 2019 15:32 (seven years ago)

OMG, "since they're both assigning..."

I hate grammar threads!
