Prepare to be perplexed by the "spomenik," dozens of Brutalist/alien WWII monuments built from the '60s to the '80s all over Yugoslavia.

Check out the Spomenik Database for tons of pix.

Those look like fragments left behind by the Elder Gods.

Also, did anyone else on here get a little bit of a Dr. Doom vibe from the Dignity statue?

The replies to this tweet are well worth checking out for awesome statue action, even though plenty of them are neither terrifying nor gigantic:

I've posted a pic of the Lord Murugan statue in Malaysia before - reposting again because the 272-steps behind it just got a new rainbow-themed paint job, likely aimed at attracting the instagram crowd.

https://www.buro247.my/thumb/625x1250_0/xbatu_caves_colourful_new_look_ca.jpg.pagespeed.ic.GLs1-5ZNfK.jpg

looks real pretty, though too bad they didn't seek permission before repainting.

Not a fan of the rainbow road by the Murugan statue, I’m afraid. We visited a couple years ago, during my honeymoon, and at the top of the stairs are the Batu Caves. The monkeys were incredibly mischievous, it was wonderful. The rainbow road is in keeping with the entire place though, I guess. It has the feeling of a once awe inspiring place that has been taken over by tackiness

Karl Malone, Monday, 3 September 2018 14:41 (seven years ago)

Was it hard to keep from falling off the sides?

Evan, Monday, 3 September 2018 17:04 (seven years ago)

xpost Tackiness is pretty much what us Malaysians do best lol. Batu Caves is a bit of a tourist trap most of the year, except during the big Hindu festivals when no one is trying to charge you to pet a snake.
