...all except for us of course ;)
Of course because I never considered ILX to be "social media" as there's no up/down voting, liking, faving or anything that turns conversation into incentivized transactions.

Its pretty good to mix political stuff with the weirder things like dril (although that's pretty unique as its not v political - unlike @Hippo, say). Lots of funny shit comes into my TL to temper the awful news feed.
Don't think its gonna last but have a look at McDonald's Hong Kong. So good.

Twitter is not gonna last, no five years (at most). Once an extreme addict (and I know the cured seem to be the worst opponents to their former addiction) but twitter is p much dead to me. Dipped my toes into it tonight after months of absence, during a tv thing that was supposed to be bonding, but the only ppl left seem to be ppl stanning hard for the exreme right or left; no nuance whatsoever. No leverage. No attempt at discussion. Nothing. It makes me hate my friends, my ~twitter friends~, and most of all myself. Rip twitter. Its death cannot come soon enough.
― Le Bateau Ivre, Sunday, 30 July 2017 21:10 (six years ago) link
There is quite a lot of nuance on twitter - and you can avoid a lot of politics if you are simply fed up of it. Film and book-twitter are pretty good.
― xyzzzz__, Sunday, 30 July 2017 21:13 (six years ago) link
yeah twitter is great

Film and book-twitter are pretty good.
Recommendations? I avoided Twitter until, like, two weeks ago, mostly so that I could tweet at Google and complain I did not get my hard earned free socks (long story). But then I was all, hey, I'm on twitter, what should I do? So I followed a dozen or so political things, and then ... stopped following people. Mostly because, like Facebook, I get the distinct feeling it is not showing me everything I want to see, not in order, not comprehensively, just sort of AI curated. Facebook, for example, I would peak at on my phone, think huh, then move to my computer for a better read and get different stuff. Facebook, fwiw, I need to stay in touch with certain friends and family. Twitter is more to kill time in airports and trains and stuff, but maybe I'm using it wrong? Oh, I did use it to contact the lead guitarist of the Cars with a question, and he got back to me, so maybe that makes it all worth while?

I got into it with an Oklahoma manufactured homes dealer on the Fourth of July because their home page had a photo of the Sydney Harbour Bridge during a New Years Eve fireworks display. Afterward, I was all oh yeah, this is what twitters all about.
― pplains, Monday, 31 July 2017 04:29 (six years ago) link
Well I follow some film/book reviewers/webzine accounts then gradually you see some of the comments beneath and you follow those ppl too. Then, over time, after some more following/unfollowing you settle into a bunch of people although every now and then you find new voices (its akin to reading or trusting an opinion of one ilx film/book person over another although I read as much from as many people as I can). Mine tend to be London-centric but some US stuff at times comes in.
Twitter is great for killing time at airports, trains etc., while you are on the move. Its perfect for that but not only that and its ok if it only remains that.

One of my favorite Twitter users, PokemonyeWest, passed away. Mourning on the Internet is still an odd thing, even though I've been online for almost 30 years and seen a lot of deaths (of people I knew well, knew vaguely, and only knew via celebrity) over that time.

is scrambling my password the only option if i need to take indefinite break?

― qualx, Saturday, 14 October 2017 21:06 (six years ago) link
is it just... "we have verified that this person exists"
regarding this
We’re reconsidering our verification policies. Not as high a priority as enforcement, but it’s up there— jack (@jack) October 14, 2017
what were the verification policies before? i guess it's to verify that the account is the real person and not a faker, but why are there so many non-public figures with them
― qualx, Saturday, 14 October 2017 21:08 (six years ago) link
It is “this person is who they claim to be”. So initially for celebs, it quickly expanded to journalists with high self-regard, conference speakers, Nazis, etc
