― flappy bird, Thursday, 27 July 2017 18:15 (eight years ago)
yes. this will never end.
― a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Thursday, 27 July 2017 18:16 (eight years ago)
when does it come out. gonna steal from b&n
― flappy bird, Thursday, 27 July 2017 18:16 (eight years ago)
jk.................. i dont shoplift
― flappy bird, Thursday, 27 July 2017 18:17 (eight years ago)
I keep wanting to hear that Street Fight Radio episode where they apparently discuss the ethics of shoplifting w/r/t automated checkouts but I'm not sure what ep it is
― a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Thursday, 27 July 2017 18:27 (eight years ago)
Tommy Vietor describing McCain as "9 parts hero, 1 part troll" on the live Pod Save America ep(feat. Joy Ann Reid!) makes me wonder if Beltway thinking exists in powder form that political staffers just snork down rails of for 4-8 years.
― Bio-Digital Jezza (kingfish), Monday, 31 July 2017 20:48 (eight years ago)
Felix was unusually restrained on Intercepted a couple weeks back, esp when discussing Saudi Arabialatest Tim Faust ep good as always
― a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Monday, 31 July 2017 20:51 (eight years ago)
yeah Faust's are some of the best/ most informative eps
― constitutional crises they fly at u face (will), Monday, 31 July 2017 20:55 (eight years ago)
Did Felix apologize on air for his rape joke or was he lying about doing that as well?
― Frederik B, Monday, 31 July 2017 21:28 (eight years ago)
did he say he apologized on air? if so that is definitely a lie
― a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Monday, 31 July 2017 21:54 (eight years ago)
I don't think he said he apologized on the show.
― Bio-Digital Jezza (kingfish), Monday, 31 July 2017 22:51 (eight years ago)
he didn't
― flappy bird, Monday, 31 July 2017 22:54 (eight years ago)
[–]felixbiedermanFelix Biederman 86 point for 11 dage siden she's had me blocked since before I made that dumbass reply, but yeah apologizing on air isn't a bad idea.
I took it to mean he was considering doing it on air, since he couldn't do it in person. But no, just two lies in one line.
― Frederik B, Monday, 31 July 2017 23:31 (eight years ago)
considering doing something and then not doing it is not a lie Fred. shitty, yes. lie, no.
― a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Monday, 31 July 2017 23:46 (eight years ago)
But do you really think he comsidered it?
― Frederik B, Monday, 31 July 2017 23:59 (eight years ago)
I have no idea and neither do you
― a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Tuesday, 1 August 2017 00:00 (eight years ago)
Although, no, let's drop it, it's not important. This piece of shit joked about a woman's rape, told people already sympathetic to him that he was sorry, but lied to avoid apologizing to her, and still hasn't apologized on his podcast. That's all I wanted to know.
― Frederik B, Tuesday, 1 August 2017 00:02 (eight years ago)
Wouldn't it have been easier to just call him a piece of shit instead of playing dumb?
― El Tuomasbot (milo z), Tuesday, 1 August 2017 00:54 (eight years ago)
Yeah, but then you can't score points for yourself on the internet that way
― Bio-Digital Jezza (kingfish), Tuesday, 1 August 2017 04:59 (eight years ago)
I for one am shocked that a guy in his mid twenties who insults people for a living said a bad, shitty thing and didn't handle it well
― a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Tuesday, 1 August 2017 05:15 (eight years ago)
Oh come on
― Frederik B, Tuesday, 1 August 2017 07:45 (eight years ago)
Are you okay with his behaviour? Women are just going to have to accept this, because we need people to 'insult them for a living'?
― Frederik B, Tuesday, 1 August 2017 07:46 (eight years ago)
By your logic, everyone who support CTH is paying for Felix to do stuff like this.
― Frederik B, Tuesday, 1 August 2017 07:49 (eight years ago)
Yes it's one of the Patreon perks
― The Marmadook (latebloomer), Tuesday, 1 August 2017 07:55 (eight years ago)
I think it was dumb and bad and I've said so a couple times fred, you need self- flagellation pics or what?
― a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Tuesday, 1 August 2017 08:28 (eight years ago)
By your logic
lol at using this particular phrase in an argument about felix
― the shape of a hot willie lumpkin (bizarro gazzara), Tuesday, 1 August 2017 08:37 (eight years ago)
Are you giving him money to insult people, Simon?
― Frederik B, Tuesday, 1 August 2017 08:48 (eight years ago)
yes, sure, absolutely. that is definitely what I meant.
― a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Tuesday, 1 August 2017 08:54 (eight years ago)
Well are you? Are you still helping Felix 'insult people for a living', even though you seem unsurprised he would then go off and do shit like this? Are you knowingly enabling this behaviour?

Actually, flappy bird, I want to ask you as well. You've written repeatedly that politics should be 'visceral and libidinal'. Are homophobia and rape jokes an acceptable part of libidinal politics?

Fred, why do you get so pissed?
― El Tomboto, Tuesday, 1 August 2017 13:54 (eight years ago)
sigh
the "insult" comment was only to say that CTH is approximately 50-60% a delivery device for insulting the pundit class + riffing on inside left twitter beef (though less of the latter of late). so no I don't think it's fair to say he gets paid to be a misogynist or whatever; he gets paid to help make a popular podcast which I do not believe to be misogynist. I was not referring to social media/outside-the-show stuff beyond that I imagine having a podcast like that be your principal job is bound to screw with your perceptions of Being Online and what's acceptable behavior and that's why I'm not super surprised something like this happened. did I enable the bad tweet by sending them five dollars? in a roundabout way, sure. I hope he is mortified by what happened and thinks more about who he's going off on online, but I still enjoy the podcast, albeit more for his co-hosts and their guests.
― a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Tuesday, 1 August 2017 13:56 (eight years ago)
yeah it was a shitty tweet but what else can you expect from edgelords but edgelord tweeting?
― President Keyes, Tuesday, 1 August 2017 13:58 (eight years ago)

this wasn't his characterization, he was relating how McCain campaign staffers viewed Johnny Maverick.

the Uber, the Enron, and the Opioid eps make me want to murder
― constitutional crises they fly at u face (will), Friday, 4 August 2017 02:48 (eight years ago)
I'm with everybody who considers this a comedy podcast aimed at left prog dorks with expendable cash
anybody who thinks otherwise, like this is a movement thing, or anything more meaningful than The Daily Show circa 2004+, is a goddamned imbecile
I will also note, The Daily Show c. 2004 and on, did promulgate some worthwhile ideas, for worthwhile causes
It was still a talk show on late at night that catered to an audience, and nobody voted for it
― El Tomboto, Friday, 4 August 2017 02:57 (eight years ago)
I don't think anyone worth taking seriously thinks it's any more than an entertainment. (To keep the comparison going, just as Stewart always protested that he was doing a comedy show, these guys have repeatedly disavowed that listening/subscribing is a political act in any way). It has spurred some people to join DSA but that's about it.

since I'm on mobile and can't dig up the activism thread, I was heartened to see this making the rounds in lefty circles today
I've been thinking a lot lately about how we build socialism in a place like White Sulphur Springs, MT, population: 939.— Erin G. 👩🏼🌾 (@ErinGoudreau) August 3, 2017
― a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Friday, 4 August 2017 05:36 (eight years ago)
Part of that question is the extent to which socialists/leftists would have to engage with evangelical Christianity as it is today and how to do so without giving in on core issues like LGBTQ rights and abortion. Can you slip past it without engaging on those social issues until they've already begun to open up? Do you seek to use the leftist organizing as an alternative to the community of the church?
There are obvious models for this (Catholic Worker, etc.) but white, rural Protestantism is so far right it's a big hurdle.
― louie mensch (milo z), Friday, 4 August 2017 05:50 (eight years ago)
(that town has five churches for 930 people and the surrounding area, four Protestant + 1 Catholic)
― louie mensch (milo z), Friday, 4 August 2017 05:52 (eight years ago)
As both a lapsed Catholic and a Marxist I definitely feel how complex that hurdle is, hopefully the Catholic left (a small but real thing) can help out with messaging when it comes to communities like these
