I think you might need to look into a thing called history if you think this is the most violent nation ever.

Part of my problem is that I have to do a lot of things myself. It takes so much time. Julio Iglesias is coming to Mar-a-Lago, but I have to call Julio, I have to have lunch with Julio. I have Pavarotti coming. Pavarotti doesn’t perform for anybody. He’s the highest-paid performer in the world. A million dollars a performance. The hardest guy to get. If I call him, he’ll do it—for a huge amount less. Why? Because they like me, they respect me, I don’t know.

Is he going to be remembered as the worst thing ever? Would be deeply ironic if he just got forgotten but then people wouldn't learn from history.
JUst hope his wrongness doesn't get outdone shortly after he dies painfully, choking to death on a shagpile carpet would be fitting, though too redolent of Elvis.
But fingers crossed he doesn't act as a harbinger of things to come.

Just would be so funny if he went to all this bother and wasn't remembered in 20 years time.

"Look, having nuclear - my uncle was a great professor and scientist and engineer, Dr. John Trump at MIT; good genes, very good genes, OK, very smart, the Wharton School of Finance, very good, very smart - you know, if you're a conservative Republican, if I were a liberal, if, like, OK, if I ran as a liberal Democrat, they would say I'm one of the smartest people anywhere in the world - it's true! - but when you're a conservative Republican they try - oh, do they do a number - that's why I always start off: Went to Wharton, was a good student, went there, went there, did this, built a fortune - you know I have to give my like credentials all the time, because we're a little disadvantaged - but you look at the nuclear deal, the thing that really bothers me - it would have been so easy, and it's not as important as these lives are - nuclear is powerful; my uncle explained that to me many, many years ago, the power and that was 35 years ago; he would explain the power of what's going to happen and he was right, who would have thought? - but when you look at what's going on with the four prisoners - now it used to be three, now it's four - but when it was three and even now, I would have said it's all in the messenger; fellas, and it is fellas because, you know, they don't, they haven't figured that the women are smarter right now than the men, so, you know, it's gonna take them about another 150 years - but the Persians are great negotiators, the Iranians are great negotiators, so, and they, they just killed, they just killed us."

Gentlemen, what you pansies are are a bunch of starving artistes who live off the kindness of the American government or mommy and daddy. You are angry at your own failings and struggle for survival, mock the GOP and ridicule its members, but when Republicans do it to the Democrats and you, you call out racism and class warfare.

You all yammer on like you do, but let me tell you this here message board is one kooky place with as many double standards as the Grand Old Party, which is why I voted TRUMP!

the more I think about it the more fucked up this hostage journalist in Russia thing is, maybe someone can explain this to me but it sure sounds like he just admitted he has a quid pro quo with Putin going on right now

I know it makes me sound like a crank but I really do think something's happening here, I mean this classified docs case is still extremely weird and even by Trump's standards doesn't make any sense. Trump himself famously never paid attention to anything in his briefings. he's not even offering an explanation of why he's doing it besides "because I can" and now there's evidence of his people lying to the FBI and trying to move the documents from room to room to evade them, to the point where an ex-President's home had to be raided by the FBI. theres also the fact that Trump has always been very rigidly pro-Russia, like his viewpoints on everything are constantly bouncing all over the place except for the ones that directly relate to Russia. on all that he's very consistent. its just so at odds with everything else he does

frogbs, Friday, 24 May 2024 04:23 (thirteen hours ago) link

Meaning the tweet regarding Gershkovich? Unless there's something more concrete than the tweet I don't know we can take that at face value or anything close to it

anvil, Friday, 24 May 2024 05:06 (twelve hours ago) link

As to how pro-Russia he is, I don't think there's a particularly clear picture, its quite mixed. Trump provided more aid to Ukraine than Obama did, and while he seemed much more Putin friendly than Obama was, I don't really think that was particularly reflected in actions. I'd way overall the Obama administration was more Russia friendly than the Trump one

Russia also invaded Ukraine under Obama, and didn't upscale until after Trump was gone, so even if it were true, it didn't factor into Putin's calculations to take advantage of it

anvil, Friday, 24 May 2024 05:16 (twelve hours ago) link

What Trump says and what Trump does do often overlap and not in consistent ways, but I think its a mistake to draw too close a link between the two, and should be analysed in isolation mostly (while acknowledging they're not entirely distinct)

thats what I'm wondering, if anyone's yet done any research into what he's saying here, idk it seems pretty bad. always so hard to tell with this guy but it's like 100% clear that if Russia wants something in exchange for help during the election Trump is more than happy to deliver, if anything he's more willing to do so given how little consequences he's faced so far

actually doing stuff while in office is another thing though, especially since the heat was on this particular connection before he even took office, and even Republicans weren't really going along with what he was saying just yet.

just saying for all the weird and bonkers shit he says on a daily basis his support for certain specific Russian political goals has always raised a few eyebrows

frogbs, Friday, 24 May 2024 14:19 (three hours ago) link

I think you're reading too much into it. I get it, when MTG started going on about TransCarpathia that didn't come out of nowhere, so its far from impossible it has some significance, but this is more likely to be nothing. I'm not sure he has any particular interest in freeing Gershkovich either

anvil, Friday, 24 May 2024 14:24 (three hours ago) link

again I don't think we ever got a satisfactory answer as to why Trump would take massive amounts of classified docs with him into his house and why he tried to hard to avoid giving them back, not saying it has anything to do with Russia, the most benign explanation is that he willingly compromised national security to make Biden's job harder, which is still the sort of thing that would land anyone else in prison for life

frogbs, Friday, 24 May 2024 14:41 (three hours ago) link

you know, if I were an investigative journalist I would still check the hostage claim out
