you will never be a minnesotan until you appreciate that they will never count you as a minnesotan

what the ever-loving hell

mh, Tuesday, 29 August 2017 21:01 (eight years ago)

rumors and stories about this place have been around for a while:

https://stephenhero.wordpress.com/2008/02/15/clubhouse-jager-uber-alles/

i have to admit i've gone there quite a bit! it's a nice old bar, good dj nights. oh well, good night.

goole, Tuesday, 29 August 2017 21:18 (eight years ago)

are there actual racist skinheads (jesus christ even typing that, what year is this?) in the twin cities?

down here we've got some dudes who seem like ska/punk holdovers who have kind of morphed into the dudes into their 30s who maybe get into fixing up cafe racer motorcycles or vespas and will show up, there's always the one dude with suspenders, a couple guys with shaved heads, afaik very anti-racist. more tattooed since it's 2017

there's a little overlap with a slightly younger crowd who I think of as "hardcore punk dudes who occasionally reunite their old bands and dj reggae nights" and they're definitely not anywhere near this level of shitheadery

mh, Tuesday, 29 August 2017 21:40 (eight years ago)

the one time i went there, the style of the place seemed... gratuitous, but who knows

j., Wednesday, 30 August 2017 00:00 (eight years ago)

p4nz3rf4ust records were in frikkin newport mn iirc

i initially hated club jager just because of the name but ended up liking it for the good dance nights (soul music usually) and the great outdoor area

a friend of mine from HS (catch her on project runway!!!) i think rented from the guy, and her husband was the jager bar manager, and they're both cutting ties at great personal expense -- if you know of studio space for a fashion designer and have a job for a bar manager, hmu

gbx, Wednesday, 30 August 2017 04:00 (eight years ago)

also as a heads-up apparently the staff there are getting all kinds of harassment, despite the what-i-would-think-was-obvious fact that none of them knew about the political leanings of the landlord

gbx, Thursday, 31 August 2017 01:49 (eight years ago)

so much for the tolerant north loop

someone linked to something about that on fb and it appeared to be...satire? or were these guys for real

gbx, Monday, 16 October 2017 17:06 (eight years ago)

Triple Rock is closing. :(

EZ Snappin, Monday, 16 October 2017 18:38 (eight years ago)

mh: one claim i've seen is that someone started a fake meetup but then these chuds showed up at it for real. i hope to fuck that's true

goole, Monday, 16 October 2017 19:12 (eight years ago)

seriously terrible news about the triple rock. just heartbreaking.

goole, Monday, 16 October 2017 19:13 (eight years ago)

I know I've only recently moved here and no one knows me yet but I'm gonna be at the Craig Finn/John K. Samson show there on Friday if anyone wants to have a beer.

I want to change my display name (dan m), Monday, 16 October 2017 19:17 (eight years ago)

That's horrible about the Triple Rock. I wonder what happened. It's not like live music or bars have become less lucrative businesses, and as far as I can tell that place was beloved from the start. I certainly loved it.

JRN, Monday, 16 October 2017 20:58 (eight years ago)

Sad. I'll see you all at the Boris and Girlpool shows, then never again.

geoffreyess, Monday, 16 October 2017 22:44 (eight years ago)

Where will Waxahatchee play next summer, they've played the Triple Rock like five summers in a row!

geoffreyess, Monday, 16 October 2017 22:45 (eight years ago)

i'm going to boris, hoping to maybe catch one other show before it closes.

it like, could get purchased right? seems like the space would be hard to make it into something other than a music venue

global tetrahedron, Monday, 16 October 2017 22:49 (eight years ago)

we were so worried what would happen if Clear Channel took over First Avenue it never occurred to us what would happen if First Avenue became a Clear Channel style monopoly

Is the Modern Radio message board really just gone? Lot of funny threads on there, shame if it's disappeared

Dan I., Sunday, 29 October 2017 05:33 (eight years ago)

I think it's gone for good. It's really a shame. It would probably still be going if the previous board software had remained viable, or if whatever they migrated it to had worked better (rather than being a buggy, spambot-ridden disaster). Of course, running it was a thankless, unpaid task to begin with, so it's understandable. But I'll miss it forever. It was the greatest.

JRN, Sunday, 29 October 2017 06:32 (eight years ago)

:(

I would have thought that was the kind of community that would naturally transfer over to a facebook group, but even it if did, I wouldn't know how to find it.

Dan I., Sunday, 29 October 2017 07:29 (eight years ago)

I think there was a thread on there about prolific local Yelper Rhonda G., and I wanted to find the examples of her best work.

Dan I., Sunday, 29 October 2017 07:35 (eight years ago)

anyone have opinions on the mpls mayor race? i don't mind hodges one bit, frey and hoch give me the willies and i'm hearing stuff about how dehn is a simply awful human so i might just put pounds at #1 to scare the MPD and put hodges second and leave it at that

global tetrahedron, Sunday, 29 October 2017 18:08 (eight years ago)

Strib endorses Frey, and their stated reason for doing so is that Hodges wouldn't give Major League Soccer a tax abatement!

(ofc it's actually because of Police Department fiascoes)

it me, Sunday, 29 October 2017 20:05 (eight years ago)

Honestly think Hodges is being successfully ratfucked, like there's Koch money or something funding the weirdly loud and insistent anti-Hodges drumbeat. Everyone else in the race is either a corporate stooge or a fucking wacko

Dan I., Sunday, 29 October 2017 23:35 (eight years ago)

Pounds is the poster child for fucking wacko, btw

Dan I., Sunday, 29 October 2017 23:37 (eight years ago)

Okay that's putting it too strongly, but dude, she's pro segregation...

Dan I., Sunday, 29 October 2017 23:48 (eight years ago)

really liking all these separated bike lanes i'm seein

gbx, Monday, 30 October 2017 16:54 (eight years ago)

I forgot all about it this year, but I really like Naomi Kritzer's posts about local politics (e.g. minneapolis mayoral race) and tend to agree with her candidate preferences. https://naomikritzer.com

Dan I., Wednesday, 8 November 2017 20:34 (eight years ago)

welp, mayor trudeau it is

goole, Wednesday, 8 November 2017 22:03 (eight years ago)

According to that blogger, one of my three votes went to a Republican. Oh well. City council (who wields more power anyway) looks to have swung even further to the left so it's all good.

Anne of the Thousand Gays (Eric H.), Wednesday, 8 November 2017 22:30 (eight years ago)

i heard some scuttlebutt that perhaps we dodged a massive bullet in dehn
