i have other coffee making vessels but moka pot is the absolute best for making quick iced coffee at home, just brew it and pour over ice

coffeee as the new health food

Dean of the University (Latham Green), Wednesday, 14 June 2017 13:24 (nine years ago)

can you all share your cold brew methods?

marcos, Thursday, 15 June 2017 23:25 (nine years ago)

what ratios do you use? fyi I don't have a scale so id need volume measurements

marcos, Thursday, 15 June 2017 23:26 (nine years ago)

I don't have volume measurements but I make flash iced coffee - 500g water, 45-50g coffee, brew onto 250-300g ice

El Tuomasbot (milo z), Thursday, 15 June 2017 23:34 (nine years ago)

When I have leftover beans mason jar cold brew is a 4:1 ratio

El Tuomasbot (milo z), Thursday, 15 June 2017 23:34 (nine years ago)

thanks!

marcos, Friday, 16 June 2017 00:21 (nine years ago)

get a kitchen scale man theyre super handy, i put 65 grams into a french press

lag∞n, Friday, 16 June 2017 04:21 (nine years ago)

80g coarse grind coffee in a 24 oz mason jar filled to the top with water, left in the fridge ~12 hours, then filtered through chemex filter.

Stole the basic idea from milo z way upthread (thanks!) after messing around with the Toddy a bunch of times.

Sorry, I know you said volume measurements...

cwkiii, Friday, 16 June 2017 04:42 (nine years ago)

kitchen scales are cheap, get one

gbx, Friday, 16 June 2017 15:15 (nine years ago)

guys i just used my aeropress to make cold drop and it was FUCKING INCREDIBLE.

i used the technique here
https://www.beanground.com/cold-brew-aeropress/

he doesn't mention a specific proportion of water to coffee. for a double shot i use two scoops of coffee - medium grind - i'm still working on the specifics - and about a glass of water. the fiddliest thing is getting the right rate of drip. at first my water was coming out too fast so i put a piece of scotch tape on the cap, the edge of the tape just hitting the hole, so as to partially block it. you can also play with the angle of the bottle - that will change how fast the water drips out. but dudes. it is SO EASY. and it's FREE.

"cold drop" = "cold drip"

i like cold drop better tho actually

illegal economic migration (Tracer Hand), Friday, 16 June 2017 15:18 (nine years ago)

Cold brew may decrease the https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nz1cEO01LLc levels in the mix

marcos, Friday, 16 June 2017 16:28 (nine years ago)

cold brew is much stronger huh, flavors were deeper than my bialetti and i noticed the caffeine a lot more

marcos, Friday, 16 June 2017 16:29 (nine years ago)

cold brew actually has less caffeine iirc

-_- (jim in vancouver), Friday, 16 June 2017 16:50 (nine years ago)

but now that i google it i find that the opposite is stated in many places

-_- (jim in vancouver), Friday, 16 June 2017 16:51 (nine years ago)

seems like bean for bean it does have less caf but just use more beans

lag∞n, Friday, 16 June 2017 17:10 (nine years ago)

Yoni Loves Chocha (VegemiteGrrl), Friday, 16 June 2017 17:40 (nine years ago)

um coffee is all math actually

lag∞n, Friday, 16 June 2017 18:32 (nine years ago)

When I started drinking cold brew I would down half a mug of concentrate without diluting. Definitely got the caffeine shakes a few times.

El Tuomasbot (milo z), Friday, 16 June 2017 18:33 (nine years ago)

heh oop

lag∞n, Friday, 16 June 2017 18:35 (nine years ago)

I can't do math until I drink my coffee, so basically I'm fucked

Moodles, Friday, 16 June 2017 18:48 (nine years ago)

can coffeee really work its magic if there is no "brewing aroma"?

Dean of the University (Latham Green), Friday, 16 June 2017 19:17 (nine years ago)

opening up a bag of beans and taking a big sniff and then they dont smell like anything is a completely demoralizing experience

lag∞n, Friday, 16 June 2017 19:36 (nine years ago)

Have you ever takedn a starbucks bag - now gently suqeeze like a new born piglet - wiff at the gass release valave - fwoof! out come wonderful coffee smells

Dean of the University (Latham Green), Friday, 16 June 2017 19:37 (nine years ago)

lag∞n, Friday, 16 June 2017 19:41 (nine years ago)

beans smell better than brewed coffee and weed smells better in the bag than smoked (although for some reason weed smells best when someone else is smoking it off-screen)

cool! i made it a lot last week while i waited for a new moka pot to come. it was good. i don't like how it uses so much coffee though.

marcos, Thursday, 29 June 2017 19:22 (eight years ago)

yes that is true

illegal economic migration (Tracer Hand), Thursday, 29 June 2017 19:24 (eight years ago)

three weeks pass...

https://www.lacolombe.com/pages/cold-brew

Ordered some of the draft latte/triple draft latte/cold brew cans to keep at my office. The only canned coffee I can get locally is Stumptown or Cuvee, both $5/can at Whole Foods, so hopefully these are palatable.

El Tuomasbot (milo z), Saturday, 22 July 2017 05:40 (eight years ago)

let us know what you think. I'm not crazy abt em.

i have mastered almond milk microfoam for my homemade lattes. yay! our espresso maker has a panarello so it took a bit of research & experimenting to get it working ... first few attemps looked like bubble bath suds lol
