"I have a proper real job with proper real money to start on Monday! Coo!"

Congrats Ailsa. So do I. Well, another temp job at least - filing at the Procurator Fiscal's office. Big fun!

29th a possibility...

Stew (stew s), Saturday, 17 June 2006 11:30 (twenty years ago)

Yay for jobs! Yay for pubs! hurrah!

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 17 June 2006 11:31 (twenty years ago)

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Saturday, 17 June 2006 11:39 (twenty years ago)

It never ends! Celtic's pre-season friendlies start during the World Cup!!

Yay free pints!

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 17 June 2006 11:45 (twenty years ago)

when i find the person responsible for putting up those hideous Camera Obscura flyposters on every street corner in glasgow i intend to track them down and kill them. hideous. is it not illegal to do this? it should be.

jed_ (jed), Wednesday, 21 June 2006 20:47 (twenty years ago)

did i say hideous?

jed_ (jed), Wednesday, 21 June 2006 20:50 (twenty years ago)

Does everyone know Carey is a first-class brainbox?

Mädchen (Madchen), Thursday, 22 June 2006 10:55 (twenty years ago)

I did suspect

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 22 June 2006 11:01 (twenty years ago)

Well done, The CareBear.

We are now going to be arriving in Glasgow on the 30th rather than the 29th, if anyone fancies coming out two nights in a row.

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Thursday, 22 June 2006 11:24 (twenty years ago)

carey = cilla black?

jed_ (jed), Thursday, 22 June 2006 11:26 (twenty years ago)

Fridays = much better idea for beer (also, Pop League). Any progress on aldo-FAP?

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 22 June 2006 14:29 (twenty years ago)

A hotel is being booked as we speak, in the centre.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Thursday, 22 June 2006 15:38 (twenty years ago)

yay! Will you be up in time for early-doors drinking on Sunday? Plan a FAP please.

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 22 June 2006 15:57 (twenty years ago)

No, it will be Thursday, I'm afraid. I thought we said McSorley's? Time = whenever. Gerry, I can probably manage a Royal Burger before.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Thursday, 22 June 2006 16:00 (twenty years ago)

Doesn't McSorleys on Thursday involve music and dancing and Swedish indie boys and things? Not that I don't like music and dancing and Swedish indie boys and things, but, y'know, ease of conversation and that?

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 22 June 2006 16:02 (twenty years ago)

Does it? I was just following Stacy's suggestion ^^^^^.

I dunno then, did Glasgow do that brewpub near the Green?

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Thursday, 22 June 2006 16:13 (twenty years ago)

june 29=SOS (sounds of sweden) #2 at MacSorleys on jamaica street
cute swedish boys+music+alcohol+me
yeah!

I can't believe I loaded all million answers of this thread to copy'n'paste that.

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 22 June 2006 16:31 (twenty years ago)

Dahlin's creaky old work computer won't let her open to this thread. So she's asked me to post this.

thursday is SOS, yes, with live music and all that, yes. there happens to be a wetherspoons directly across the way, however, with large open spaces, (semi) quiet atmosphere and cheap food and beer. so y'all could do a pre-SOS dinner meet-up there if you like. alternatively, you could snag a table in the upstairs mezzanine/loft area of macsorleys to be a bit removed from it all.

as for friday, if you don't fancy the crowded heat of the woody, i will likely be a guest DJ at the chill ABC polar bar for dolly mixture's new night. so lots of space, girly tunes and air conditioning.

Now, I'm not convinced about the JD Weatherspoons pub across the road (Crystal Palace) being open, since it seemed quite closed the last time me and Onimo tried to go in for a pint. That was a few weeks ago, mind, perhaps it is back open again. But upstairs in McSorleys sounds good. I can be there very early doors indeed. (note hint at impending ruin)

I'm also theoretically up for the ABC on Friday as well. I HATE the lack of air-con in the Woodside, so cool places are, well, cool.

Basically, yay for Dahlin, a wise woman with GOOD IDEAS.

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 22 June 2006 17:23 (twenty years ago)

Upstairs at McSorley's sounds fine to me too. A plan.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Thursday, 22 June 2006 19:05 (twenty years ago)

i'm working till 10 on the 29th but my route home takes me past mcsorley's door. i shall pop in for a pint or some.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Thursday, 22 June 2006 20:20 (twenty years ago)

I'm thinking I may schedule some sort of "meeting" away from the office on Friday (or ask for the morning off)

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 22 June 2006 20:23 (twenty years ago)

I am already booked, for the 29th.
:(

Onimo (GerryNemo), Thursday, 22 June 2006 22:27 (twenty years ago)

Oh well, I will see you on your holidays.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Friday, 23 June 2006 05:59 (twenty years ago)

I am already booked, for the 29th

cozen (Cozen), Friday, 23 June 2006 10:10 (twenty years ago)

Oh well, I will not see you on your holidays.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Friday, 23 June 2006 10:22 (twenty years ago)

Bumpity bump. Pub tomorrow, folks! Is NipperFAP happening also?

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 28 June 2006 16:39 (twenty years ago)

I am already booked, for friday. :(

stet (stet), Wednesday, 28 June 2006 16:59 (twenty years ago)

Try other excuses, Glasgow :-)

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 28 June 2006 17:03 (twenty years ago)

is henry still coming?

jed_ (jed), Wednesday, 28 June 2006 17:20 (twenty years ago)

Oh, yes, that's Saturday as well, isn't it? (I will be in a pub watching the football, as I imagine Enrique would like to be)

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 28 June 2006 17:40 (twenty years ago)

I'll be popping along to McSorleys tomorrow for a friend's birthday (money permitting, fuck knows what the dole are doing) so I'll pop upstairs to see y'all at some point.

Stew (stew s), Wednesday, 28 June 2006 17:54 (twenty years ago)

I thought you had a job again? I can't keep up.

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 28 June 2006 17:55 (twenty years ago)

I had forgotten people were visiting!

RJG (RJG), Wednesday, 28 June 2006 18:51 (twenty years ago)

Would it be controversial if we started a new thread titled in such a way that people would be aware that people are visiting?

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 28 June 2006 19:02 (twenty years ago)

it certainly seems like it, yes

RJG (RJG), Wednesday, 28 June 2006 19:07 (twenty years ago)

i will be trying glasgow, in august

charltonlido (gareth), Wednesday, 28 June 2006 19:11 (twenty years ago)

Start a thread!

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 28 June 2006 19:13 (twenty years ago)

Me and Mrs the Nipper will be arriving in Glasgow on Friday afternoon at the Bothwell St Holiday Inn. Our guts will be shrieking for pints if anyone is around Friday eve...

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Wednesday, 28 June 2006 19:19 (twenty years ago)

Ailsa - I do have a job but pay is a week in arrears, so I get my first weeks wages on Friday.
The problem is the dole STILL haven't paid me for a claim beginning on June 12. I'm phoning them tomorrow and demanding a full explanation. Grr!

Stew (stew s), Wednesday, 28 June 2006 19:27 (twenty years ago)

i shall hoy along to mcsorley's tomorrow night at about 10.30ish.

friday i can't do. sorry, JtN, it would have been good to meet you.

saturday is up in the air and i've no bloody idea what i'll be up to, where i'll be or who i'll be with. however, i'd like to meet (h)enr(y)que and will aim to do so.

[waits for someone else to make plans, as usual]

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Wednesday, 28 June 2006 22:27 (twenty years ago)

will JtN & mrs & others be up for drinks on saturday since enrique will be here?

jed_ (jed), Wednesday, 28 June 2006 22:36 (twenty years ago)

I have no plans, for Saturday.

stet (stet), Thursday, 29 June 2006 00:10 (twenty years ago)

I'd prefer Saturday, but could do Friday if that was only chance of Nipper-FAP.

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 29 June 2006 05:44 (twenty years ago)

My plans for Saturday night will involve drink, whatever happens.

Mädchen (Madchen), Thursday, 29 June 2006 08:07 (twenty years ago)

I'm working till 10 or so on both Friday and Saturday. I think I might be going with cozen to see Ellen Allien at the Sub Club on Friday. Late Saturday and all day Sunday I'm anyone's.

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 29 June 2006 08:11 (twenty years ago)

Cor!

Mädchen (Madchen), Thursday, 29 June 2006 12:00 (twenty years ago)

Ailsa asked me to post this about tonight as she's at work:

A quick shufty through the Metro shows that, although Dahlin's Sounds of Sweden night sounds aces, it also costs £4 to get in. Now I don't want to deny her the chance to make a quick buck at ILX's expense, but this may deter the casually-dropping-in punter (Grimly? anyone else?). Aldo concurs. Should we make an alternative plan? Perhaps the Crystal Palace so that Dahlin can nip over the road and join in the merriment when hott Swedish boys get too much? (I *know* it's a Weatherspoons, but I can't really be bothered thinking of anywhere else right now).

Debate amongst yourselves, and when a pub decision is reached an email to (my first name).(my last name)@gmail would be a good thing. Or a text. I can let Aldo know if he hasn't checked in himself - snce he's left this in my allegedly capable hands, I'm guessing maybe he won't?

Onimo (GerryNemo), Thursday, 29 June 2006 12:06 (twenty years ago)

Don't all rush at once folks! I'm guessing me and Aldo will maybe go to the Crystal Palace and try and get a seat looking out at MacSorleys to grab any random passers-by (well, maybe not that random...). Or else we'll just be in MacSorleys anyway.

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 29 June 2006 14:32 (twenty years ago)

Ooh do you reckon there will be tickets on the door for Ellen Allien?

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Thursday, 29 June 2006 15:48 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, I'd have thought so. I don't have an advance one anyway. Fancy it then?
