Occasionally I wonder, when the WP comes up, whether Jeff Bezos is not in fact a more malign or potentially more malign figure than Trump, taking a broad view. But I guess that isn't the conversation Ben Garrison is interested in having.

I'm sort of grimly fascinated by Ben Garrison. How does he claim to be a "rogue cartoonist" when one of his defining features is completely unquestioning loyalty to the president of the USA? What's he going to do when the Trump project inevitably disintegrates? Is there a point where he would be disillusioned? What then?
― Camaraderie at Arms Length, Wednesday, 31 May 2017 20:41 (nine years ago)
He's also written a long article entitled "Advice for Aspiring Cartoonists" in case anyone wants to follow in his footsteps.
― Camaraderie at Arms Length, Wednesday, 31 May 2017 20:45 (nine years ago)
when the Trump project inevitably disintegrates it will be because of the sinister machinations of the shadowy elite made up of the Republican establishment the Deep State and the Rothschilds
― soref, Wednesday, 31 May 2017 20:46 (nine years ago)
the media has its golden goose so the "project" (whatever that is) disintegrating not likely to happen. he could be impeached and exiled from the country and we will still hear about every single dumb thing he tweets for the rest of his and our livee.
― AdamVania (Adam Bruneau), Wednesday, 31 May 2017 21:15 (nine years ago)

impeachment or resignation or criminal charges of some sort is the disintegration I'm talking about, sorry if you would like that phrased differently.

"How does he claim to be a "rogue cartoonist" when one of his defining features is completely unquestioning loyalty to the president of the USA?"
this is trump's base generally; hence the focus on the evil media and derp state machinations to explain why having trump in charge isn't magically fulfilling all their dreams and changing the entire system.

Trump had the conspiracy theorist types in his pocket from the get-go; had assumed that if he were ever to win he'd lose them instantly, like they'd have to think "welp, he's a lizard person/bilderberg stooge/whatever now". But the combative nature of his presidency, the fact that it always looks just about to fall apart, has made it so you can now maintain wake up sheeple cred while repping for the most powerful man in the United States.

― frogbs, Thursday, 8 June 2017 17:47 (eight years ago)
Bit of a rubbish one this week, but just look at the detail on Trump's pecs, the biceps, the detail around the crotch, the big, manly hands. Phoar.

― soref, Wednesday, 21 June 2017 17:41 (eight years ago)
It's relevant because America's relationship with Trump is much like Leroy and Loretta's marriage. Trump is drunk again at a party and dancing with a floozy while wearing a lampshade. Loretta is spending Leroy's payceck at the department store again.
I'm not sure which one is which here, but it makes sense if you think about it.

Are we spending our finite time on Earth wisely? And do we even grasp how finite that time is?
In the chapter we’ve excerpted below, Tim uses the tale of a made-up land called Hypothetica to show how easily people can be forced into saying—and eventually thinking—the same things. (The piece is longer than our usual fare, in part because of the illustrations, so consider printing it out or saving for this evening over a cocktail.)
amazing
