After one gin and tonic, one still feels that badness exists, and one finds it troubling.
Two: badness exists but I am glad it cannot get to me in that moment.
Three: the remoteness of badness is a blessing.
Four: we are all brothers and sisters and we should just hug stuff out.
Five: wheeeee! Everythings are beautiful!
Six: oh holy shit everything is horrible and it needs to all die by fire
― leprechaundriac (Ye Mad Puffin), Tuesday, 23 May 2017 13:41 (nine years ago)
poss needs context. it's an awful slummy-mummy blog type account that usually posts 'lol aren't my kids awful' stick men cartoons. This is their non-lol reaction to the terror attacks.

A good run here of sharetrash units which are, not entirely wrong, but questionable, and then when you question them they get even more questionable

know it's against the spirit of the thread, but usually find Hurrah for Gin pretty funny, and not at all represented by the mawkishness above. Her one on World Book Day was pretty spot on as far as the life I'm currently living for example - http://hurrahforgin.com/2017/03/01/topsy-and-tim-the-world-book-day-catastrophe/

A break from the usual image macros. This was an album share - showcasing an artist who creates images of moments in his relationship which tell us what love is.

― Roberto Spiralli, Thursday, 25 May 2017 17:13 (nine years ago)
xp Oof that's bad - I really doubt that's true everywhere, so not a good idea to share it as safety advice.
I quite like those cartoons in a way but they're a bit cutesy and get more so the longer you look at them.
― Never changed username before (cardamon), Thursday, 25 May 2017 17:45 (nine years ago)
In fact wait a minute it can't be true because how wd they know you were typing in your pin backwards unless you told the machine what it was already ...
― Never changed username before (cardamon), Thursday, 25 May 2017 17:46 (nine years ago)
I just can't imagine the kind of fundamental misunderstanding of How Things In The World Work you'd have to have to believe things like this. And yet I see people I know, people I went to school with who I would assume know better, share these things all the time.
Why not just write, "If you put your PIN in backwards the ATM will spray knockout gas that will disable the thief, so hold your breath really quickly before you type it in!"
― Old Lynch's Sex Paragraph (Phil D.), Thursday, 25 May 2017 17:50 (nine years ago)

apparently someone suggested this as an actual security measure once and it failed but nonetheless the meme survives
― Charles "Butt" Stanton (Neanderthal), Thursday, 25 May 2017 22:45 (nine years ago)
The problem is that crooks would know about it too, so when they saw the money was stuck they might hurt/kill you.
― nickn, Thursday, 25 May 2017 23:25 (nine years ago)
lol a machine with features that could destroy money or harm people, what could go wrong?
― mh, Thursday, 25 May 2017 23:49 (nine years ago)
Feel like robbing someone later so i can watch them try this
― Charles "Butt" Stanton (Neanderthal), Friday, 26 May 2017 00:11 (nine years ago)
The alarm at one place i worked *did* have a 'duress code' built into it, one you could enter if someone was forcing you to open up and which would alert the police, so it is possible (but obviously bullshit here)
(And the ATM *could* know you'd typed your pin in backwards - it knows when you've typed it correctly so it must know what it is.)
((Or it could be like a password where the hash is stored and the entered password is hashed again and compared against the stored version, which would mean it wouldn't know you'd typed it backwards))
What I'm saying is that this is possible, which is probably why people believe it.
― koogs, Friday, 26 May 2017 05:28 (nine years ago)
Thing is, 4 digit pin only has 10,000 variants so, as Roberto alluded above, there's going to be thousands and thousands of people who have palindrome PINs.
There does seem to be a brain disconnect with some people when they see something like this on social media. I've also seen fairly bright people sharing shit like this or replying 'Yes' on those fucking ones that say Stare at the photo, click Like then reply Yes and watch the magic happen.
― groovypanda, Friday, 26 May 2017 07:20 (nine years ago)
The backward PIN trick is so important and useful that all Banks have left it up ExploreTalent.com to inform all of their customers that it exists through a viral facebook post

Honestly those postal game packages do appeal to me, but they're usually hideously overpriced. Also I totally get why "what if a serial killer delivered packages to your door" is a ridiculous advert.
