Mr. Que, Tuesday, 5 May 2009 15:34 (seventeen years ago)

older water coolers didn't have the little punchy-thingy that allowed you to mount the jug without spillage. newer ones do.
and jesus is a refrence to the Big Lebowski (steve buscemi - cummon people!)

how do you make these animation things direct from tv show? tutorial please.

Philip Nunez, Tuesday, 5 May 2009 18:49 (seventeen years ago)

oh man loving these gifs

slow lorax (k3vin k.), Tuesday, 5 May 2009 18:52 (seventeen years ago)

i used adobe premiere to make the liz muppet one above - not sure if you can do it with windows movie maker. the less movement there is the better they come out (due to the frame rate reduction).

Hard House SugBanton (blueski), Tuesday, 5 May 2009 19:19 (seventeen years ago)

i crop the avi in quicktime, import it into imovie, export each frame as a gif, and then use some shitty command line thing to join the frames as an animated gif

c'mon no love for captain janeway?

Philip Nunez, Wednesday, 6 May 2009 18:11 (seventeen years ago)

This thread is always so bizarre. I am glad to know that new water coolers have implemented self-punching seals to deal with the inversion/spilling issue, but they used to just have a screw-on cap, so you had to tilt them on very deftly. Also I don't recall any Jesus jokes beyond the stereo-guy one, but umm I don't think that's based on anything more complicated than the fact that there are various Latino men in the U.S. named Jesus (usually not pronounced like the religious figure), and this is traditionally used as an opportunity for funniness among non-Latino Christians (cause that's how we spell the name of the religious figure and all, but then it's also how you spell the name of just like this guy who maybe works on stereos or something).

nabisco, Wednesday, 6 May 2009 18:42 (seventeen years ago)

yeah--thats why i think its probably a reference to "Jesus" from the bible?

rip dom passantino 3/5/09 never forget (max), Wednesday, 6 May 2009 18:44 (seventeen years ago)

yeah, that dude

nabisco, Wednesday, 6 May 2009 18:50 (seventeen years ago)

but if this thread were on ILM I'm sure it would be perceived as a subtle reference to Jesus Jones

nabisco, Wednesday, 6 May 2009 18:52 (seventeen years ago)

jesus jones was my stereophonics guy

im not sure this writer has ever heard of "self-deprecating humour"

s1ocki, Thursday, 7 May 2009 13:24 (seventeen years ago)

i mean seriously, how insufferable would this show be if liz was smugly right every time

s1ocki, Thursday, 7 May 2009 13:25 (seventeen years ago)

Elaine Benes and Murphy Brown, for example, were strong, feminist-friendly characters and funny, to boot.

This is basically all you need to know about this article.

I'm gone (HI DERE), Thursday, 7 May 2009 17:53 (seventeen years ago)

can't take seriously anyone who deploys "to boot" inna just-folks writing style, generally

wow, i wonder if a place that serves both pizza AND po' boys would be wonderful or terrible. they truly are wearing two boots.

Ømår Littel (Jordan), Thursday, 7 May 2009 18:29 (seventeen years ago)

great pizza, and po' boys, to boot!

hey c'mon elaine was funny -- she's basically an unrepentant amoral Liz. She's Lore to Liz's Data.

Philip Nunez, Thursday, 7 May 2009 18:36 (seventeen years ago)

the two boots refer to the shape of Italy and the shape of Louisiana!

nabisco, Thursday, 7 May 2009 18:37 (seventeen years ago)

You would think someone named Weiner would have by now.

Saula (Nicole), Thursday, 7 May 2009 18:37 (seventeen years ago)

Elaine was a great example of the equality of assholism; I don't think that's necessarily aspirational (which is what this article appears to yearn for).

I'm gone (HI DERE), Thursday, 7 May 2009 18:40 (seventeen years ago)

Yeah, the article was like "She made a guy get a vasectomy for her, awesome!" where really it was funny on the basis of being a jerky thing to do.

Saula (Nicole), Thursday, 7 May 2009 18:43 (seventeen years ago)

The most succinct way I can summarize what's weird about that article is that it's a bit like saying that since Cathy always loses to the swimsuit, the comic strip is secretly on the swimsuit's side

(although I do think that there's a level on which "the show" is comfortable enough in this sort of cosmopolitan/liberal worldview that it has fun tweaking it or feinting in the other direction, as I think most cosmopolitan/liberal people do)

nabisco, Thursday, 7 May 2009 18:51 (seventeen years ago)

yeah exactly i feel like they're doing it for the LOLs
