Don't wanna even think about what being Pence's gut shield entails (Oxford commas, WP).

Ambling Shambling Man (Old Lunch), Wednesday, 29 March 2017 02:14 (nine years ago)

A fair amount of joy in this new Thrush/Haberman piece:

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/03/28/us/politics/vice-president-mike-pence.html

The president’s son-in-law and free-floating aide, Jared Kushner, who has described himself as a first among equals in the West Wing...

And

When Mr. Flynn was fired in mid-February, Mr. Trump and White House officials said he had misled the vice president about his conversations with Mr. Kislyak, which led to an embarrassing television appearance in which an oblivious Mr. Pence defended Mr. Flynn’s conduct.

In reality, Mr. Trump — convinced by Mr. Bannon, Mr. Priebus and Mr. Kushner — had already decided that Mr. Flynn was a liability, and was eager to find an excuse to get rid of him, according to three administration officials familiar with the episode.

Mr. Pence was a lot less upset about how the episode was publicly portrayed — and happily provided the president and his staff with a plausible explanation for getting rid of Mr. Flynn, the officials said, even though it made the vice president appear out of touch.

In fact, the president repeatedly asked Mr. Pence to weigh in — and he flatly refused, according to two aides with direct knowledge of the interaction.

I thought as much.

yeah Pence has seemed to be happy to play Mr. Alibi from the go.

PURE, BEAUTIFUL OIL (Sparkle Motion), Wednesday, 29 March 2017 05:15 (nine years ago)

Isn't it well known that there was a 3 week interval between Sally Yates informing the WH about Flynn and him being fired?
&that Pence's claim of ignorance was untrue anyway since he was informed during the campaign?
So surprised he has much, if any, credibility left.

republicans love scandals. democrats scorn them. it's an interesting dynamic, as republicans seize more and more control of the US federal and various levels of state governments than at any time since Reconstruction

After a “quiet few days,” Andrew Napolitano returns to Fox News, says he stands by his report Obama ordered GCHQ to spy on Trump

https://thinkprogress.org/trump-gutted-lgbt-executive-order-8dd0e3be69a

Trump’s new executive order undermines a promise he made just two months ago. When a draft of a “religious freedom” executive order that would have licensed discrimination against LGBT people was circulating, the White House tried to stir up some positive press by promising that it would “leave in place” Obama’s 2014 order protecting LGBT workers.

calling Trump a piece of shit seems unfair to actual shit

Rachel Luther Queen (DJP), Wednesday, 29 March 2017 15:00 (nine years ago)

I may have missed discussion of it on the board, but there's a front page story in today's FT about increasing big business resistance (led by Exxon, of all entities) to the administration's desire to hasten the destruction of the ecosystem: https://www.ft.com/content/acf309b0-13b3-11e7-80f4-13e067d5072c

"calling Trump a piece of shit seems unfair to actual shit"

"Nick Hornby is full of shit. Actually, this is unfair to shit. At least life grows from shit." WTF?

scott seward, Wednesday, 29 March 2017 15:20 (nine years ago)

reminded me of that.

not surprisingly, the whole ISP/data privacy bill seems to be the only thing making the chuds over at r/the_d rethink their support of the god king

increasing big business resistance (led by Exxon, of all entities) to the administration's desire to hasten the destruction of the ecosystem

market forces have long been moving in this direction (as a result of both gov't policies/incentives and a general acceptance of the science), corporations that care about their profit margins make moves accordingly

Roger w the good hair

Οὖτις, Wednesday, 29 March 2017 16:19 (nine years ago)

i heard Stone interviewed on The Takeaway (NPR) yesterday and he basically strikes me as the same kind of 'performance artist' Ann Coulter is.

Supercreditor (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 29 March 2017 16:20 (nine years ago)

Yeah, the whole 'sartorial splendor of Roger Stone' is performance art, when you consider he really looks like Zippy The Pinhead.

Granted nothing more than a random voice right now but:

Carly Fiorina: 'Special prosecutor or an independent commission' needed for Russia investigation

The Dent statement noted above has more relative weight, but given Fiorina seemed to be nothing but a generic Trumpbot in recent times, it's something.

Trump down to 35-59, per Gallup.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 29 March 2017 17:30 (nine years ago)

It actually seems possible that his approval rating could dip into the 20s. Wow.

Ambling Shambling Man (Old Lunch), Wednesday, 29 March 2017 17:33 (nine years ago)

Happened to W IIRC, but that was after, you know....years. Not WEEKS.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 29 March 2017 17:34 (nine years ago)

It's going to take some strong medicine to drive him below 35% approval, but I am sure he'll find a way. I must say he's thrown an interesting light on the concept of "winning so much you'll get tired of winning."

a little too mature to be cute (Aimless), Wednesday, 29 March 2017 17:35 (nine years ago)

Can't we whip up a law that when no more than 1/3 of the populace approves of an elected official we officially, I dunno, throw them under a riding mower or something?

Ambling Shambling Man (Old Lunch), Wednesday, 29 March 2017 17:35 (nine years ago)

W's low point was 25%, just prior to leaving office

Οὖτις, Wednesday, 29 March 2017 17:41 (nine years ago)

the Trump team appears to have zero awareness of how to even start turning this around

Moodles, Wednesday, 29 March 2017 17:43 (nine years ago)

Is there a critical mass of losers he's run over that will finally chain react into "lock him up" generally?

wishy washy hippy variety hour (Hunt3r), Wednesday, 29 March 2017 17:47 (nine years ago)

The Trump team has zero awareness of how to turn this around because all of them consider themselves to be brilliant political experts, but none of them have any practical political experience and they disdain anyone who does have such experience on the grounds that, in their expert view, real politicians always do everything exactly wrong.

a little too mature to be cute (Aimless), Wednesday, 29 March 2017 17:52 (nine years ago)

yah the fact that everything is fucked up and not working is evidence of their MASSIVE success! you fuckin dummies!!!
