details are nebulous but it sounds like the boy was on the off-duty police officer's lawn and he told him to stay away. the kid threatens to shoot him. the off-duty police officer attempts a citizen's arrest

what is he going to sue him for?

off-duty police officer should get some type of punishment for taking out his gun and shooting it though

i'm moving in a year in order to attend CSU Northridge and starting to think about affordable housing in the area. a friend said i might consider: reseda, van nuys, mission hills, sylmar, san fernando or even parts of northridge. any kind ilxors have any other bits of knowledge to share? i really don't know that part of L.A. at all unfortunately but am gonna be in the area in late july for a short visit and a dodger game

if you like movies and you live in L.A., you've probably gone there. heard shit about at least one of those guys for a long time, just the general creepy nature of women interacting with him. predictably, like a lot of "center of a culture" dudes with a fair amount of lazy charisma, he's got his share of defenders ready to pop off about "unfounded allegations."

An acquaintance of mine works there, I'm hoping he was not involved with this.

I've always been a bit uneasy w/at least one of those guys, personally.

It's like they think that everybody's going to spark up for the first time on Jan 1. I don't think they will. It's more likely that if people were prone to do it, they would have done it by now. Nobody's going to be "new," and I don't think that people who smoke are all of a sudden going to take to the roads in massively larger numbers than they already are. It'll just be no HS 11357 violations.

Go away for two weeks and return to find an infestation of scooters being parked and used all over the area. Found one leaning against our neighbor’s house this morning. Had three parked on the grass along the curb the other day.

Drive through Westwood if you want to see true infestation. Haven't been near USC but I assume its just as bad.

Some scrap metal dudes tried to take one parked outside the other day. It looked like it was put out there for free.

if you think scooters are a danger to pedestrians and an eyesore and they clutter the built environment making getting around difficult for everyone other than people who use them then wait until you hear about cars.

i have been enjoying the LA podcast a lot! i now know more about local politics than i have in any town i've ever lived in. and they added alissa walker to the roster and are very good on transit as a result.

i get the LAT and the LASD and USC seem like not good institutitions?!

obviously nobody here is a climate scientist but I feel like it used to rarely be humid in LA in the summer.. that's definitely not the case the last 2-3 years. am I off-base here?

it's been pretty humid for L.A. though obviously not midwest or deep south humid. also this summer and (iirc) last were not especially hot maybe? this has been very much a summer full of 84 degree high days (with that early July weekend heat wave excepted.)

i imagine it's been a really pleasant summer for the beach communities, Santa Monica seems to be enjoying lots of 78 degree days.
