tbf, if my "yard" was that size and shape, I'd prefer shredded rubber to grass. Even if it were planted with shrubs, there'd be no room to approach them or to move about the outside of the house.

I'm subscribed to a wide variety of animal GIF subs. Reddit definitely wins out over ILX for cats being assholes and adorable puppies.

re: art, that's not really Reddit's fault. Look at every single art or photography sharing/forum in existence.

Some of the specific areas are good - TV show subs Ive loved, people go over things in great detail (Legion and Fargo were awesome).

I also like TIFU.

Reddit reminds me of the guys in the nerdy fraternity that tried to recruit me when i was a college freshman. They had this kind of forced positivity about them that, for some reason, seemed like it could flip at any moment into its opposite. They were literal minded and defensive; not for them was ilx's withering sarcasm, an attitude that might even be more corrosive in the end but is at least civilized.

I've occasionally gotten a decent book rec from r/literature. r/books is hilariously terrible, either "i hate reading how do i shot book" or "anyone else like Terry Pratchett"

I waste way too much time on r/aww looking at cat and puppy pictures. I feel no shame.

weird technical interest subreddits are cool because its just a place where people will find affinities. ditto like fan reddits for some adult swim show or whatever. occasionally browse /r/cooking, and despite the grating house style can be entertained by /r/talesfromtechsupport

Pirates and Hitler are like 80% of American pop-history (the other 20% is the Civil War).

the DIY and somethingimade reddits are sometimes good browsing if you're into that stuff. Lots of dreck but people will put up some interesting woodworking and crafts.
