Howard and Robin berating JD for not proposing to his girlfriend on the air was so infuriating this morning. I feel like I'm listening to two old people losing their minds in real time. Every day Howard talks about DC101 and WNBC, it's like they're in a nursing home talking to orderlies. Meanwhile Robin's mind seems to have gone out to lunch.

still haven't listened since November but I have noted over the past few years that robin has lost a step or two.

listening to the JD 'who do you hate more' brackets and he gets so mad at the end:
H: why are you so upset? we just wanted to know who you like the least in the office
JD: I know what you want and you got it!

I love how he seems to think that his real worth to the show is that he fucking isolates tv clips instead of entertaining the audience with his mumbling disorder

and benji spotted in the lobby of the building where they work, dry humping a fire alarm

i'm so sad that Benjy isn't in the studio anymore. hearing his laugh in the background was one of my favorite parts of the show

What exactly happened with JD?

he proposed to his girlfriend and announced it on twitter, a picture of the ring on her finger with the caption "She said yes." this was the night before a live show, and Howard just reamed him for the better part of an hour for not giving the show the exclusive. he seemed genuinely upset and insane about it.

"Genuinely" is the key word here. H is a performer first and human being second, at least on the air.

I mean I doubt we'd be talking about it if JD announced. H being pissed off is good for his show

she also read a fake news story about a couple that was struggling to conceive only to find out that they were fraternal twins... some email chain BS... she's been out of the studio a lot lately... really hope nothing serious is happening again...

calstars have you listened to Cum Town? it has a 90s Stern Show vibe. they're big fans, too. my favorite podcast/radio show at the moment

it goes beyond just guys riffing in a room, though, for me. cumtown is good at that. but you need: meanness + intimacy, longterm relationships, non-comedian/non-professional riffing from guys like kc or jd etc + callers + howard himself and also the formal constraints of broadcast radio which persist even into the satellite year which goes beyond "we gotta take a break, robin" and it's like a framework type of thing.

i was watching patrice o'neal standup and got into listening deeper into o&a recently. i think o&a for a period in the 2000s comes close to "90s stern vibe", when you have opie the radio guy + cumia the hack racist comedian song parody man + jim norton and THEN you get guys like patrice o'neal in (but it's 75% shit and patrice or louis ck or colin quinn). there's moments that really work, like when patrice o'neal is in the studio with gallagher, who turns out to be a racist that wants to dam the colorado river and they lowkey fuck with him for forty five minutes before gallagher catches on the whole thing blows up. or... the call where bobo calls in as the fugitive and claims to have stolen 10k from "mel karzastan" which he will return if erock eats bobo's cum. there's a good mix of: not riffing and actual conversation that most podcasts have trouble getting to.

enjoyed through carefully selected youtube clips that minimize contributions by the two hosts, it can be okay.
