Gas, 1981 (wikipedia notes that it is "not to be confused with a similar-sounding 1970 film Gas-s-s-s", which doesn't seem to have had one of these posters, sadly)

Hahaha I remember specifically searching for Gas-s-s-s once on the hunch that it'd have one of these.
"Recruits" may be unique in offering both a 70s jam-packed and an 80s bold-outline-with-airbrush variation.

I feel most movie posters would do well to include "NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH KING KONG" at the bottom.

IIRC that Cannon Group doc makes it seem neither wild nor wicked (all these posters have a serious protest-too-much quality in the captions), and additionally pretty creepy and uncomfortable, unless I'm thinking of a different Golan/Globus schlock highwaywoman picture.

The "International Thriller" genre that flourished from the 70s through to the early 80s (aka, my favourite genre of films to fall asleep to on a lazy Sunday afternoon) is gold for this thread.

how could they afford to make so many of these films no one's heard of? tax losses? were many just ultra-cheap? it's insane!
― piscesx, Saturday, 1 April 2017 03:46 (nine years ago)
Cheap to make + less competitive cinema scene (and generally NO competition for first-run kiddie fare) + captive markets in places like overseas army bases + guaranteed TV advert revenue when it goes to The Wonderful World of Disney + vinyl record, storybooks, other miscellaneous tie-ins + some of these were actually popular and successful in their own right? I think?
― tales of a scorched-earth nothing (Doctor Casino), Saturday, 1 April 2017 05:58 (nine years ago)
And also cash-ins were much easier to turn around and execute. Hence all the copycat American Graffitis, Smokeys, Meatballs etc.--most of which were in theatres within a year of the originals.

^^Obviously I'm speaking in more general terms than I think the Doc was. Disney is a thing unto its own: They had an assembly line going with loads of contract people running without fail up until the 80s anyway, and even after that they merely adjusted the model to emphasize cable content.
