Would require adapting for every style sheet
― The beaver is not the bad guy (El Tomboto), Wednesday, 25 January 2017 14:00 (nine years ago)
would it? how many style sheets have a non-white background color? fuck 'em, make it work for the 80% (or 90% or 99%).
― brekekekexit collapse collapse (ledge), Wednesday, 25 January 2017 14:03 (nine years ago)
I'm definitely for this idea!
― Tuomas, Wednesday, 25 January 2017 14:16 (nine years ago)
in the old days we just used rot13
― kinder, Wednesday, 25 January 2017 14:18 (nine years ago)
i agree, change is bad.
― brekekekexit collapse collapse (ledge), Wednesday, 25 January 2017 14:27 (nine years ago)
I was just thinking through how it might be done
Realized immediately after posting that oh yeah I just sounded like that guy
― The beaver is not the bad guy (El Tomboto), Wednesday, 25 January 2017 14:31 (nine years ago)
change is bad, unless you're changing from a bad thing to a good thing I guess but when does that happen
― kinder, Wednesday, 25 January 2017 14:33 (nine years ago)
i would go black on black rather than white on white so that you know the spoiler is there and don't accidentally mouseover something you don't want to see. though there's probably some weirdo out there with a black background stylesheet so maybe it has to be configurable
― ciderpress, Wednesday, 25 January 2017 14:44 (nine years ago)
This is turning into a terrible work meeting. I want a quick fix, no configuration!
― brekekekexit collapse collapse (ledge), Wednesday, 25 January 2017 15:17 (nine years ago)
Still want to be able to page people to threads, by saying @stet what do you think? or something.
Also, spoiler feature.

ugh man pplains spoiler tags are always annoying and poorly implemented, plus then you get arguments about spoiler enforcement and blah blah, creates more problems than it solves

Black on black is a good idea. I don't know how style sheets work, but could it just be told "take whatever the current text color is and use that"?
― stein beck ii: the wrath of grapes (Doctor Casino), Wednesday, 25 January 2017 16:01 (nine years ago)
possibly set tagged text opacity to a low enough value for you to see that there's text there but not enough to be able to read without highlighting (opacity back to full on hover)
― nashwan, Wednesday, 25 January 2017 16:08 (nine years ago)
black on black looks gross how about grey on grey, otoh this opacity idea might have legs.
god i hate meetings.
― brekekekexit collapse collapse (ledge), Wednesday, 25 January 2017 16:15 (nine years ago)
a soothing mauve on mauve would do wonders for the temperament of ilx imo
― Roberto Spiralli, Wednesday, 25 January 2017 16:36 (nine years ago)
the people who use a terminal emulator stylesheet clearly don't give a shit about spoilers, is my foregone conclusion
― The beaver is not the bad guy (El Tomboto), Wednesday, 25 January 2017 16:41 (nine years ago)
black on black it is, somebody go do it
― The beaver is not the bad guy (El Tomboto), Wednesday, 25 January 2017 16:42 (nine years ago)
otoh this opacity idea might have legs
probably shit for older browsers and would need media query alternative for touch-select but tried it in dev tools and would work fine with any user-end method of classifying text
(I've already thought about this way too much for someone who would almost certainly never use it and dgaf about spoilers in general)
― nashwan, Wednesday, 25 January 2017 16:51 (nine years ago)
Are any of the stylesheets pink? So why not use pink on pink?
― Frederik B, Wednesday, 25 January 2017 16:58 (nine years ago)
Working lunch! Jimmy johns is ok with everyone, right??
― Karl Malone, Wednesday, 25 January 2017 17:03 (nine years ago)
Wouldn't work on the mobile apps though. Need to spin up a separate epic for this offline imo
― stet, Wednesday, 25 January 2017 17:17 (nine years ago)
don't make ilx more like other message boards
― k3vin k., Wednesday, 25 January 2017 17:21 (nine years ago)
otm
as an alternative we could just make all of ilx a ~no spoilers~ zone, strictly enforced
― Karl Malone, Wednesday, 25 January 2017 17:37 (nine years ago)

Alternate plan, make ilx a spoilers-only board darth vader is Luke skywalker's dad
― if young satchmo don't trumpet i'm gon shoot you (m bison), Thursday, 26 January 2017 12:26 (nine years ago)
Better still, how about people who don't want to read spoilers don't click on the thread relating to that TV show, film or whatever.
― heaven parker (anagram), Thursday, 26 January 2017 12:40 (nine years ago)
do you realize how difficult that is

not really

Is there a way to embed tweets?
― Dan Worsley, Wednesday, 8 February 2017 08:51 (nine years ago)
No, thank god.
― Tuomas, Wednesday, 8 February 2017 09:07 (nine years ago)
I'd like to embed tweets. Save me a million damn clicks with all the tweets everyone posts.
― Jeff, Wednesday, 8 February 2017 10:39 (nine years ago)
someone embedded one on uk politics the other day
― nxd, Wednesday, 8 February 2017 10:43 (nine years ago)
It would be nice to have some sort of sticky post where newcomers can find out about what all the ILX specific jargon / unwritten rules are.
― Camaraderie at Arms Length, Wednesday, 8 February 2017 10:46 (nine years ago)
Embedded tweets: hell yes.
― Le Bateau Ivre, Wednesday, 8 February 2017 11:00 (nine years ago)
embedded tweets would make, eg, the trump thread more readable, rather than people just posting links without a hint of the content which takes you away from the conversation.
― koogs, Wednesday, 8 February 2017 11:08 (nine years ago)
tweets quite often = a photo, that's it, but downloading and rehosting is way too much trouble, and embedding would be much easier to deal with.
― Camaraderie at Arms Length, Wednesday, 8 February 2017 11:13 (nine years ago)
Automatically delete tweets and ban any user posting tweets or indeed tweeting
― Betsy DeVos Ayes (darraghmac), Wednesday, 8 February 2017 11:22 (nine years ago)
Thatd be right good
― Betsy DeVos Ayes (darraghmac), Wednesday, 8 February 2017 11:23 (nine years ago)
wouldn't want to see Trump tweets embedded on ILX, or indeed anyone else's I disagree with
― nashwan, Wednesday, 8 February 2017 12:21 (nine years ago)
Embedded tweets is a bad idea. How about stop posting blind links?
It makes sense with YouTube imho, since YouTube is a different type of content than ILX, but twitter is basically dumb ILX with no FP button
Also stop posting blind links
― El Tomboto, Wednesday, 8 February 2017 12:25 (nine years ago)
i don't even like youtube embeds, glad that disabling images turns those off too
― ciderpress, Wednesday, 8 February 2017 12:47 (nine years ago)
When the YouTube clip is no longer there (due to being taken down or whatever) it would be neat if there was a way to display the clip's title as text for reference and just 'video removed' or similar. Same for other lost media too I guess.
― nashwan, Wednesday, 8 February 2017 13:10 (nine years ago)
Have found myself wishing for "show tweet text in tooltip bubble on hovering over twitterlink" functionality, but also realise that a) ppl can attach like attachments and pics and stuff to tweets nowadays??? b) only really makes sense on actual computers and not so much on other devices, and c) in that case maybe I should just look into writing a greasemonkey script myself or something
