love my aeropress but had some chemex brewed cof over the holiday and was really impressed -- mighta been the beans tho who knows

what's the difference between chemex and a hario v60? what's with that weird cloth

chemex is great but i don't think i'd want it as my exclusive brewer. the coffee it produces is extremely clean and bright, and sometimes i want a muddier thick brew

i've been doing french press for years but am sorely tempted by the bonavita now, it's just so damn easy.

I'm quite happy with it.

I don't generally brew coffee on weekday mornings because that's in conflict with my donut and coffee buying ritual but maybe I should just change it up and start buying just donuts.

yea i only brew coffee at home if i am eating breakfast at home.

btw a coffee + croissant is the most elegant and perfect breakfast imo

i tend to crash after the croissant rush dies off. now i eat yogurt w/ walnuts and honey and drink a cup of filter coffee every morning: RECOMMENDED

you know how sometimes when you're in a foreign country and something about their culture strikes you as superior to your own and enviable. whenever I've been in a city in spain in the morning and seemingly everyone on their way to their office is stopping in at a cafe to drink a coffee and eat a pastry for breakfast i get that feeling

Recovered a vintagey chemex out of my mom's hoarder house - still in the box new. Have been trying it out in place of my trusty french press and dang...

I highly recommend the glass handle Chemex over the classic wooden collar, if anyone's in the market. The leather straps on the wooden collar Chemex never seem to re-tie as nicely as they are originally when you clean it.

I make Chemex coffee every day. It is the best. My rules:

Pour 450 ml water into electric kettle. Turn on kettle.
Put new filter in Chemex pot
Rinse filter in hot water from sink until it is all wet and suctiony and the Chemex pot is hot
Pour out water, making sure filter stays in place
Add 4 tablespoons / 27 g medium roast coffee ground a bit coarser than medium
Shake Chemex a bit to flatten the ground
Add orange peel and cardamom if you like
Gently pour over the grounds 100ml of the water from the kettle that stopped boiling about a minute ago
Wait for a minute.
Continue adding all the water, soaking the grounds evenly, in any number of incremental little pours during the next 2-3 minutes, making sure you don't let the grounds dry out too much in between pours
Pour into a mug and spill that thing all over your shoes
Stop at Dunkin Donuts and drink a paper cup of their bogwater.

i pretty much do the same thing but i use 42 g of fresh ground beans with 750 mL water because i like to have a more than one mug in the morning

I do flash-iced most of the time so 500ml of water to 47g of beans with a handful of ice in the carafe and ice in the pint glass or thermos I'm drinking from, which gets me to about 750ml of water total.

except I'm lazy and use a Chemex in a Bonavita automatic maker

also I'm lazy and eyeball the ice, 500ml water, 42-50g of coffee depending on the roast

i'm considering making the move from aero to chemex, what do you guys think, crowd-sourcing over here

My favorite is the Bonavita immersion dripper when I'm not doing the Chemex/Bonavita - looks like a V60 or wave, but you pour the water in and then push a bar to release it once it has steeped.

It's ceramic so if you preheat with hot water it retains the heat well for a 3-4 minute steep

i have had to stop the cof because it wasn't good for my anxiety.

what i use mostly (ceramic), chemex have thicker filters so its a lil cleaner cup if thats what youre into

im back to makin the cold brew tho now that the weathers good, was just drinking some and was like wow this is insanely chocolatey

chemex is good but takes too long. Kalita wave all the way. Once I start pouring it's like 2 minutes til its done.
