i just think about how much more amazing Mad T.V. would have been at the Trump stuff. Will Sasso as Trump. Alex Borstein would have been a way better Spicer.

i still don't care about bands reuniting. someone was excited today on facebook about some band today. can't think of a single band i would care about reuniting. let it die. that's my motto. though if you are destitute, well, i do get that reasoning. that's fine. sometimes its hard to find a job.

don't care about t.v. shows coming back either. enjoyed the gilmore girls one but would have lived a fine life without it. zero interest in nu-twin peaks.

scott seward, Friday, 17 February 2017 18:51 (nine years ago)

Don't care about SNL in general, but people keep trying to force that (unfunny, from what I've seen) skit in particular on me.

some sad trombone Twilight Zone shit (cryptosicko), Friday, 17 February 2017 18:51 (nine years ago)

and i do get the whole: oh man i made two dollars with my punk/indie band 30 years ago and now everyone is ripping off my old sound and making money and talking about how great i was. it would be kinda excruciating. so, i get it. i just don't care.

they just never go far enough on snl. it's always a little safe and clean and yet poorly written. and then goes on too long. they never want comedy to be TOO messy. but, you know, whatever. worth watching for someone as funny as will farrell or amy poehler.

life is much better when you accept that it is finite. im grateful that it is

marcos, Friday, 17 February 2017 19:01 (nine years ago)

Scott, there's no reunion you've enjoyed?

To me that anti-reunion rule makes no sense. Sure most bands will have lost their magic but some bands just can't continue for different reasons but still have plenty of juice left.
American Music Club, Comus, Lush and live Pixies with Kim Deal were all plenty good and justify it despite there being so many underwhelming reunions.
I'm worried about the new Slowdive album but they're discography was hardly perfect to begin with.

Robert Adam Gilmour, Friday, 17 February 2017 19:15 (nine years ago)

when i lived in philly years ago i went and saw the pretty things and i really enjoyed that just because i think i would enjoy almost anyone playing those songs well? it was fun. could have lived without it. i really enjoyed seeing the chameleons in philly. they played at a bar and they sounded pretty much exactly how they sounded in the 80's and i loved every minute of it. but, again, i would have been fine with the records. i'm that kind of listener though. an alone in my room/home/etc. listener. i've seen a ton of amazing live music in my life but i am still primarily a solitary music lover.

scott seward, Friday, 17 February 2017 19:27 (nine years ago)

in the mid-80's i did actually get kinda excited to see the adolescents - my first reunion show! - and they were cool but i was so bummed out that nobody else at the show cared. i think i might have been the only person there who was excited to see them. everyone was waiting for whatever straightedge band was headlining.

scott seward, Friday, 17 February 2017 19:29 (nine years ago)

the youtube clips of slowdive's first reunion thing looked cool. they sounded exactly like slowdive. i do get that there are lots of people who have never seen these bands live and that this is their chance. i was a huge swans fan and didn't really care about seeing him/them again. it felt kinda cathartic to see them on the swans are dead tour! shoulda stayed dead. never went and saw black sabbath either. my favorite rock band!

scott seward, Friday, 17 February 2017 19:34 (nine years ago)

i'm a weirdo though. for people who just like live music it makes perfect sense to go see all these people.

scott seward, Friday, 17 February 2017 19:35 (nine years ago)

The Descendants are coming to Cleveland and charging $40 to see them at House of Blues. Like, all respect to Milo and crew and the latest album is, eh, not bad, but $40 to see The Descendants in 2017? GTFO.

Lauren Schumer Donor (Phil D.), Friday, 17 February 2017 19:36 (nine years ago)

again, i appreciate the fact that these people are probably not rich. i don't even know what milo does outside of music. i know he went to college.

scott seward, Friday, 17 February 2017 19:42 (nine years ago)

and it's GOTTA sting watching all that green day and blink 182 etc etc money fly right by you every day.

scott seward, Friday, 17 February 2017 19:43 (nine years ago)

haha, Milo's got a PhD and several years of postdoc work and iirc worked as a research chemist in private/corporate labs. He probably made more in two years of doing that than off every record he ever sold.

Lauren Schumer Donor (Phil D.), Friday, 17 February 2017 19:45 (nine years ago)

they should just have a verifiable website where you can send your fave forgotten icons/legends money. just paypal it right to them. when people get drunk and listen to their teen faves and say fuggit i'm sending kevin seconds 20 bucks.

scott seward, Friday, 17 February 2017 19:46 (nine years ago)

Scott- I totally get you about the live stuff. I had an amazing time at the Pixies reunion but could have went on fine without it. But the universe would be just wrong without some of the newer American Music Club songs and I need those new Comus songs and the new Lush single.

I wasn't into the new Swans stuff but other people think it's essential, so good for them.

SNL has always been unfunny unless you are a kid or drunk or high. the most annoying thing now is articles talking about how _important_ of a show it is. ditto for Colbert, Maher, the corporate left, et al. they aren't influential, they are reactive. people are fooling themselves if they think NBC Comcast is doing anything other than maintaining the status quo of cultural/political supremacy.

Glancing at the Britpop thread on ILM, I realized that's a thing I had/have zero interest in. I don't think I could recognize a song by any of its biggest purveyors.

You're going to see a lot of love. Okay? Thank you. (Dan Peterson), Monday, 20 February 2017 20:33 (nine years ago)

wonderwall?

Mordy, Monday, 20 February 2017 20:39 (nine years ago)

Listening now. Oh yeah, THAT song. If you only played me the first 30 seconds I wouldn't have identified it though. I was just paying so little attention to alt rock in the early 90s, I was all about blues and jazz and old soul music.

You're going to see a lot of love. Okay? Thank you. (Dan Peterson), Monday, 20 February 2017 20:50 (nine years ago)

I remember in 1989 being all excited about the Who reunion tour (which was fun at the time, but utter dogshit in retrospect). I was complaining to a friend of mine about all the anti-Who-reunion backlash (mainly from hipster Pixies fans; oh, the irony...) and she said, "Yeah, what's the deal with that? They're musicians. Musicians play. That's what they do."

Montgomery Burns' Jazz (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Monday, 20 February 2017 20:56 (nine years ago)

If you only played me the first 30 seconds I wouldn't have identified it though.

That's funny, I always turned it off after there first 30 seconds.

The potential angle of one's interest in Britpop's jangle is proportional to the degree of 1990's ennui of the 2010s' we.
