ppl going wild for the discourse

lag∞n, Tuesday, 20 December 2016 02:57 (nine years ago)

haha jeet heer doing a tweet storm on the newfound controversiality of tweet storms, never change bud

k3vin k., Tuesday, 20 December 2016 03:42 (nine years ago)

(he's right tho obv)

k3vin k., Tuesday, 20 December 2016 03:42 (nine years ago)

hes right if you think a self own and being right are the same thing

lag∞n, Tuesday, 20 December 2016 03:46 (nine years ago)

i think my full explanation of why he's right would not be popular on this board so i'm just gonna keep it to myself, but suffice it to say attacking form rather than substance is pretty lazy and unserious

k3vin k., Tuesday, 20 December 2016 03:50 (nine years ago)

Jeet Heer ‏@HeerJeet 43m43 minutes ago
1. So, twitter essays.

I thought he was going to stop after this first tweet and it would be quite a funny joke, but maybe him continuing to do an actual twitter storm is in fact a funnier joke

soref, Tuesday, 20 December 2016 03:52 (nine years ago)

read yr blogs

mookieproof, Tuesday, 20 December 2016 03:53 (nine years ago)

attacking the form is good, do not legitimize the form, which is annoying

lag∞n, Tuesday, 20 December 2016 03:55 (nine years ago)

listen for some people this is their entire brand

who is extremely unqualified to review this pop album (BradNelson), Tuesday, 20 December 2016 03:58 (nine years ago)

why wld we want to be serious about tweetstorms, we arent aspiring to be weird buffoons

lag∞n, Tuesday, 20 December 2016 04:00 (nine years ago)

if ur a successful tweetstormer this is a perfect opportunity to not feed the trolls and just carry on with yr life of tweestorming, its basic game theory

lag∞n, Tuesday, 20 December 2016 04:02 (nine years ago)

tweetstorms dont really even bother me like theyre for sure pretty lame but defending tweetstorms is just such obvs bad manners idk

lag∞n, Tuesday, 20 December 2016 04:04 (nine years ago)

u cn defend them on here its okay but not on twitter dont clutter up the feed

lag∞n, Tuesday, 20 December 2016 04:07 (nine years ago)

tweetstorms can be fine even if they are often terrible just don't go announcing you are going to start one like "OK, ready everyone? Tweetstorm on x, starting now! Here goes!!!"

also the word "tweetstorm" is bad

marcos, Tuesday, 20 December 2016 04:09 (nine years ago)

its funny the numbering doesnt actually serve the typical purpose of numbering things its purely to signal to ppl that a tweetstorm is going down

lag∞n, Tuesday, 20 December 2016 04:19 (nine years ago)

if i were jeet heer id be all

1. a few thoughts on tweetstorms
2. i got a nice job off tweetstorms
3. gargle deez

lag∞n, Tuesday, 20 December 2016 04:21 (nine years ago)

time for some storm theory

tweet meteorology

mh 😏, Tuesday, 20 December 2016 05:39 (nine years ago)

I think crazy ranting game theory guy is bad but did the twitter format right. If you're tweeting that many times in a row, it should sound like a one person conversation where you're responding to the voices in your head

mh 😏, Tuesday, 20 December 2016 05:41 (nine years ago)

lol jeet fighting w ronan now he mad

lag∞n, Wednesday, 21 December 2016 00:51 (nine years ago)

tucker carlson featured a tweet from my buddy regarding lena dunham on fox today lol

Ronan <3

Le Bateau Ivre, Wednesday, 21 December 2016 01:01 (nine years ago)

jeet's a lot smarter than ronan, to state the obvious

k3vin k., Wednesday, 21 December 2016 01:11 (nine years ago)

yeah but is it the right kind of intelligence, he _did_ respond at ronan's weak jibe

jeet's a lot smarter than ronan, to state the obvious

odd non sequitur

lag∞n, Wednesday, 21 December 2016 01:24 (nine years ago)

where do you imagine people are when they are tweeting these storms

a Warren Beatty film about Earth (El Tomboto), Wednesday, 21 December 2016 01:25 (nine years ago)

ronans point was very good not weak and jeets intelligence didnt seem to really help him understand it much, prob the kind of intelligence thats better suited to musings than human interactions

lag∞n, Wednesday, 21 December 2016 01:27 (nine years ago)

idk man i find the pile-on tiring. jeet may be a lot of things (humorless, lacking in self-awareness), but at the very least he's curious about the world around him and can think for himself. give me that over a white guy who uses "manthreading" unironically

k3vin k., Wednesday, 21 December 2016 01:28 (nine years ago)

the man threading article was written by a woman fwiw

lag∞n, Wednesday, 21 December 2016 01:30 (nine years ago)

if it's a bunch of people doing this it's lame, but if it truly is a bunch of people then why the hell is he wasting time responding to individuals

mh 😏, Wednesday, 21 December 2016 01:30 (nine years ago)

manthreading has to do with your eyebrows

Treeship, Wednesday, 21 December 2016 01:30 (nine years ago)

I think they go to the last remaining bookstore in their city to browse and maybe buy a book, and then they take out their phone and then an hour or two later another shopper says "excuse me" because they are standing in front of some good books, and the twitter person is like "shit" and moves, and then realizes they are late for a thing and they have had nothing to eat since 9am

a Warren Beatty film about Earth (El Tomboto), Wednesday, 21 December 2016 01:31 (nine years ago)

imo twitter is an excellent platform for roasting ppl jeets doing fine he cn deal

lag∞n, Wednesday, 21 December 2016 01:33 (nine years ago)

i think "manthreading" was funny and tongue in cheek, knowing that the people who are guilty of it would either get the simile or blow up because they're humorless

it's not like men talking over people, but it often has the same run-on nature and linking the two is funny, although that appeal is limited to people who read a zillion "mansplaining" articles

basically, gawker in-media-sphere humor

mh 😏, Wednesday, 21 December 2016 01:34 (nine years ago)

the man threading article was written by a woman fwiw

― lag∞n, Tuesday, December 20, 2016 8:30 PM (four minutes ago)

i read the article and it was bad

k3vin k., Wednesday, 21 December 2016 01:35 (nine years ago)

which all the main tweetstorm ppl aspire to in that hyper-tweeting in-crowd has an intersecting set of lingo

and it's all ppl who aspire to be heard so badly

mh 😏, Wednesday, 21 December 2016 01:35 (nine years ago)

ya it was obvs provocation targeting the humorless and pompous and anyone with any sense wldve steered clear or jsut laughed it off

lag∞n, Wednesday, 21 December 2016 01:36 (nine years ago)

the risible portmanteaus are so tired at this point

Treeship, Wednesday, 21 December 2016 01:37 (nine years ago)

i agree jeet heer is mockable, i don't even like him that much or whatever, i just think we can do better than that attempt

k3vin k., Wednesday, 21 December 2016 01:38 (nine years ago)

that article was just baiting MRAs. no one thinks only men use that feature of twitter.

Treeship, Wednesday, 21 December 2016 01:38 (nine years ago)

u know whats not funny and actually terrible about twitter tho is the woman who wrote it had a ton of in earnest very nasty shit directed at her over it

lag∞n, Wednesday, 21 December 2016 01:38 (nine years ago)

yeah but that was the evil plan of the editors of gizmodo. they used her as live bait to draw clicks. isn't so funny.

Treeship, Wednesday, 21 December 2016 01:39 (nine years ago)

imo the best part was that a ton of tweets have been made out of this "manthreading" article, treating it as something as significance because it was a published article on a blog

if it was a series of tweets by the same writer, would anyone have noticed?

ergo maybe tweetstorms are minor compared to actual articles

mh 😏, Wednesday, 21 December 2016 01:39 (nine years ago)

my friend is taking a comic books class in University and he has a big anthology of criticism of comic books and the introduction is written by Heer Jeet

it was your typical say-nothing red meat for the base, lagoon started a whole thread about this phenomenon iirc

k3vin k., Wednesday, 21 December 2016 01:40 (nine years ago)

i never heard of this jeet but i am picturing derek jeter

Treeship, Wednesday, 21 December 2016 01:41 (nine years ago)

thats one of the funniest things abt him

lag∞n, Wednesday, 21 December 2016 01:42 (nine years ago)

if an article gets traction its def more powerful than a tweetstorm but if u have a large twitter following yr average tweetstorm will get more eyeballs than yr average article

lag∞n, Wednesday, 21 December 2016 01:42 (nine years ago)

coincidentally derek jeter was lagoon's favorite baseball player for his favorite team the yankees
