― a Warren Beatty film about Earth (El Tomboto)

That's Corona and Titleist!

nickn, Monday, 19 December 2016 02:43 (nine years ago)

At least the teacher knows the best thing to do with a Corona is pour it into a jar of golf balls and sand.

and this section is called boner (Phil D.), Monday, 19 December 2016 13:13 (nine years ago)

- Professor, what does the beer represent?
- I'm glad you asked.

If he'd just brought in a jar of vodka I would believe he was a philosophy professor.

Even the letters in that book want to get away from that guy. The next image should be letters in the bottom half, with the blank pages of the book now flying away in the top half. etc.

I've filled my fridge with jars of beer and I guess I feel a little better.

Evan, Tuesday, 20 December 2016 15:56 (nine years ago)

Otherwise reasonable people on facebook are now reposting avocado wolfe posts as if they are just regular motivational / ethics memes and I have to stop myself lecturing, say, my dad on a daily basis.

a bunch of people in my feed are sharing this link this week, accompanied by plaintive reflections on the symbolism of the event in this national and global political moment, yet they don't realize the event happened 6 years ago: http://io9.gizmodo.com/5715413/tonight-will-be-the-darkest-night-of-the-past-500-years?utm_medium=sharefromsite&utm_source=io9_facebook

ofc the past 500 years have been a cakewalk

AdamVania (Adam Bruneau), Wednesday, 21 December 2016 15:56 (nine years ago)

xp people are really bad at reading the dates on articles

I wanted to go off on someone (a fb friend's friend, not mine) for sharing crap from some fake news site the other day but when I went to the site it was even worse -- they did have weird accusatory articles, but it was obviously the labor of one or two people. The "Breaking News" section had articles from September and June at the top and people were still sharing them like they just happened, because, again, no one looks at dates

I give up

It's true and proven: children spanked in the 50s don't turn into teenagers in the 2010s.

jmm, Wednesday, 21 December 2016 17:56 (nine years ago)

looks more like teenagers in the late 90s

Evan, Wednesday, 21 December 2016 17:58 (nine years ago)

Specifically teenagers from a Larry Clark movie

I don't know about this NAYCRUMORS person, but I'm on dry land. It never sinks, either. You don't even get seasick and all drenched with spray.

proposed "floating church" for IJburg

https://nlarchitects.files.wordpress.com/2011/02/floating-church-for-ijburg_hds.jpg

Why not introduce a floating Church?

The cross shaped ‘ship’ would feature a glass roof. As soon as the service starts the ‘cross boat’ could sail off for ultimate concentration, as such hopefully evoking an enhanced religious experience.

soref, Wednesday, 28 December 2016 04:00 (nine years ago)

Id leave a floater in that church

Neanderthal, Wednesday, 28 December 2016 04:08 (nine years ago)

crucifix boat should add some pontoons for stability since it already has the wings built in.

I don't know anything about George Michael. Other than being gay, was he heavily associated with the word "queen"?

"The Universal" is one of the best ever songs about prozac imo, "when the days they seem to fall through you, well, just let them go" would make a better facebook macro quote (though obv all facebook quote images are bad by definition)

soref, Thursday, 29 December 2016 17:42 (nine years ago)

leaving aside whether or not there is a difference between recreational and prescription drugs, and whether the world was "weird" in the 1960s, albarn is a moron and his songs are shit

way too many people i don't have negative respect for already posting this 15 minute baloney "this is exactly what's wrong with THIS generation!" ted talk or whatever

i'm watching it because i hate myself and now i hate myself more

qualx, Friday, 30 December 2016 23:44 (nine years ago)

It's not about what's "wrong" with them. Also I went in dismissive and it basically described a friend's life.

albvivertine, Friday, 30 December 2016 23:57 (nine years ago)

As a member of the boomer generation, I can assure you that the "everything that's wrong with this generation!" talk reached epic heights, never again to be surpassed, back in 1967 through 1974. It kind of ebbed around the time of Watergate, bcz the older folks just weren't feeling their towering moral superiority quite as much.

i watched the whole thing and it was the same old bullshit it always is, just engineered to infantilize rather than stir outrage as usual

i'm sure it applies to several individuals, it's still built on phony, vague theories that are useless because generations aren't real. after years, now, of hearing dumb bullshit about participation trophies and the evils of cell phones, a lot of people are going to be open to the exact same bullshit positioned in a way that allows them to feel good about themselves. it's still bullshit. any human being that talks in earnest about the psychological damage of participation trophies shouldn't be taken seriously.
