― mh 😏, Friday, 16 December 2016 16:54 (nine years ago)
a: kids are annoying and i don't like being around themb-z: wow, you must lead a really sad life! disliking kids is a sign of low emotional maturity. everyone was a kid once, if kids didn't exist adults wouldn't exist you know! kids are abused all over the world and don't have a voice to advocate for themselves and i think it's monstrous to say you hate a marginalized group like that.
b/w people being unable to understand why for e.g. a gay adult might say something like "i hated kids even when i was one"
― 1staethyr, Friday, 16 December 2016 17:06 (nine years ago)

I don't know why people make these distinctions between who's better, kids or adults, when we're all just different sizes of the worst.

How about we not turn the CFS thread into the sequel of the original? Please & thank you
― a Warren Beatty film about Earth (El Tomboto), Friday, 16 December 2016 18:21 (nine years ago)
I used the term "monster" half jokingly ftr. Lex is not a monster. I was just trying to point out that it was a little weird that he was discussing kids like they were annoying little accessories of posh londoners and not people in themselves. I would have accepted that he was being cheeky or whatever they say in merry old England but lex is on the record as hating humor.
― Treeship, Friday, 16 December 2016 18:23 (nine years ago)
I apologize for the role I played in the clusterfuck.
This thread is always a good reminder of that weird thing about human nature where you think it's going to be the big, heavy, fraught shit that's going to cause a shitstorm of an argument when actually it's just things like, why did you put the milk in on the right side of the refrigerator when we ALWAYS put it on the left?!?
― My Lunch Is Older Than Your Lunch (Old Lunch), Friday, 16 December 2016 18:27 (nine years ago)
Happy holidays treeship :-)

lex is on the record as hating humor.
lex says (intentionally) funny stuff all the time.
― The Doug Walters of Crime (Tom D.), Friday, 16 December 2016 18:28 (nine years ago)
More like the tyranny of self-described comedy iirc.
― My Lunch Is Older Than Your Lunch (Old Lunch), Friday, 16 December 2016 18:31 (nine years ago)
Yeah youre right. And I half remember agreeing with some of his points in that thread. I don't have any excuses.
― Treeship, Friday, 16 December 2016 18:32 (nine years ago)
take lex seriously but not literally imo
― lettered and hapful (symsymsym), Friday, 16 December 2016 18:41 (nine years ago)
Because of that thread, I will not discover what zings are hiding in my favourite thread tonight, or tomorrow night.

in seriousness, the dp thread is a good one to go in for some lighg musing from time to time while ilxors of good calibre and sound morals try to argue that the nazi hierarchy had an inherent worth that society should twist itself into knots trying to protect its fun
― trilby mouth (darraghmac), Wednesday, 11 January 2017 20:58 (nine years ago)

so has the kettles thread revealed transatlantic differences as per tipping?
― Neil S, Tuesday, 14 March 2017 10:49 (nine years ago)
I think we got 1400 posts in before anyone realized that the UK usage of 'kettle' implied electric which, because of the difference in mains voltage between the two countries, is not the default in the US. And then the argument eventually devolved into a discussion of building meter data, for some reason.

― Neil S, Tuesday, 14 March 2017 12:24 (nine years ago)
has anyone ever posted a controversial opinion in the controversial opinions thread or a conservative opinion in the conservative opinions thread? all I'm seeing is milquetoast chitchat like "velveeta is actually pretty good in a grilled cheese sandwich" and idk if it would be a good use of my time to dig deeper in hopes of uncovering a couple of quality shitposts
― I Ville Valo HIM (unregistered), Monday, 3 April 2017 19:42 (nine years ago)
Someone posted a conservative opinion in the Free Speech thread and was banned quick

i'm pretty sure i've posted conservative opinions in the conservative opinions thread
― Mordy, Monday, 3 April 2017 19:50 (nine years ago)
oh right that orientmammal guy. idk if he did anything really bannable on that thread. granted he had stupid opinions but
xp

― Neanderthal, Monday, 3 April 2017 19:56 (nine years ago)
I thought my opinion on the conservative opinions thread was reasonably conservative!
― Guayaquil (eephus!), Monday, 3 April 2017 19:58 (nine years ago)
meanwhile we have somehow wound up on "what is a RIFF" debate on the Jimmy Page thread
― Neanderthal, Monday, 3 April 2017 20:08 (nine years ago)
Recent decades in the USA have seen a drift in the meaning of "conservative opinions" to where it is almost synonymous with either "batshit crazy ideas" or else "sycophancy to the rich and powerful". This has made it harder for educated Americans to embrace "conservative opinions".
― a little too mature to be cute (Aimless), Monday, 3 April 2017 20:16 (nine years ago)
i still don't really get why people were mad in the creepy liberal thread. i tried to read it but it makes me sleepy.
― scott seward, Monday, 3 April 2017 20:20 (nine years ago)
Meantime, the Led Zeppelin/downward arc thread turned into an extended back and forth on what is a lick vs what is a riff and my head hurts.
― Ned Raggett, Monday, 3 April 2017 20:20 (nine years ago)
"meanwhile we have somehow wound up on "what is a RIFF" debate on the Jimmy Page thread"
ILM is a total waste of time. #controversial
