And some of the frozen pizzas are from Italy. I'm now starting to see Italian made pizzas in other stores too. I like them, but I can't help think how they could be even better if made locally in the right way, because shipping a frozen food item halfway around the world has got to have a quality cost.

When I was in Atlanta a couple of weeks ago I fought the traffic and got some of the Dark Chocolate Roasted Pistachio Toffee (aka toffee that looks like it's been rolled in cat litter).

if it is some magical olive that only grows on mount vesuvius, sure. if it's a full pizza, they lyin or there are some weird kickbacks/writeoffs in play

any thoughts on their _canned_ indian food? the frozen stuff is good imo, but they have daal in cans that i have never tried. i make that at home (e.g. http://cooking.nytimes.com/recipes/1014369-makhani-dal-butter-dal-mogul-style). it's idiot proof but it's a big time investment.

My roommate said it was appalling.

Yeah I saw those cans of matar paneer yesterday and first was like "hey!" and then was like "actually probably no." my kids like the frozen chicken tikka masala.

i had a can of daal makhani for lunch. it looks like diarrhea (which it's supposed to) but actually tastes really good. maybe a bit salty.

I moved to a less bougie neighborhood and now there's no tj's within a reasonable distance of me or even where I work, so I went to tj's for the first time in ages yesterday...and apparently the truffle mac n cheese was seasonal???? I'm devastated

Recently enjoyed:
Vegan masala burgers (potato based. Tastes like smashed samosas).
Morningstar farms (Kellogg's) TVF based breakfast sausages
Scallion pancakes

Could use improvement:
Vegetarian burritos

I also tried the peanut butter pretzels but damn they stick to my teeth too much

That new yuzo hot sauce is zip zap.

saw they've recalled unsweetened applesauce bcz of glass fragments

they seem to be having a bad run with recalls

the masala burgers have been my favorite for a long time, I think the first time I ever went to tjs they were sampling it and I always have a box in my freezer.

The quality of the veggie burritos changed for the worse a while ago...perhaps around the time of the frozen veg recall they had to switch suppliers? also they have a ton of fat, I know veg options dont automatically != healthy but if they tried to supplement it with some other fatty goodness I couldn't taste it.

What happened to the PB&J yogurt

bought myself frozen foods at TJ's last night for the first time in 1.5 years. So many new products (not just frozen but everywhere!!)

Did they get rid of the fresh focaccia w/ tomato slices on it?
Did they get rid of the steak & ale and chicken balti pies????

Even red wine vinegar is more expensive than two-buck chuck. Even though it is about as ordinary as wine can get, that's a noteworthy price point.

It's $2.49 in California now (for the past few years). I assume it's at least that elsewhere. For a while other stores had $2 wine (Fresh and Easy had Longboard, iirc, though I guess F&E is part of the same empire as TJ).

Charles Shaw is now three-buck chuck here in Portland, but it's still easily the cheapest vin ordinaire going.

One of the 99 Cents Only stores here carries wine, but it's $2.99. They had a Goliath white, which I think I've seen elsewhere for closer to $8-10.

The steak and ale and chicken balti pies were taken off the shelves at the same time when the frozen veg recall happened - however I went to tj's last week and the steak and ale pie is back. I actually emailed them about the chicken balti pies and never heard back, I really really want them back :(
