My ex's sister and her gf used to live in one of those blocky buildings... The area was once poor, but for the last 10+ years they've been building those kind of modernist houses theres, so now it's quite posh.

I tried to narrow my choices by looking in the map for coastal cities in Islamic Africa with estuary-like features.

xp I wondered the same thing (about its "city-ness"), and this one's definitely pushing the envelope, but I did see it described as "a port city" in one place and as the "easternmost city in Russia" in another, so since I basically just wanted y'all to see the whimsical colors, I went for it

Utterly delicious, beautiful city. I was there during a teacher's strike that ended in some pretty tragic violence. People were wonderful.

I should've found a better picture I just like those frogs and wanted to put them in this thread (b/c I'm never gonna be able to guess anybody else's city that's for sure)
So I just learned that those frogs have to do with The Great Frog Battle of 1754:
Legend has it that in 1754 in the hamlet of Windham in the Connecticut colony, the Battle of the Frogs commenced. No, we're not talking about the French. It was literally a battle pitting frog against frog. At the time, a number of men in the area had departed to fight the French and the Indians. One hot night in June, the remaining men in the town heard screeching and began to fire wildly, believing they were under attack. The next morning they discovered that the sounds had come from frogs that were either battling over the last remnants of water in a drought-stricken pond or just ticked off at each other. They never really knew why the whole episode occurred, but hundreds, some said thousands, of frogs died.
