I heard an interview with some dude who wrote a book about Hummus and he was very dismissive of what passes for it in the UK. He stated if you haven't tried freshly made Hummus from the Middle East or Israel then you really don't know what it truly is. I'll be looking to see if the Hummus Crisis has hit my local Co-op laters!

One thing that I think is still assumed with tory politicians - May, Cameron, even Boris, though not UKIP - is that of course they're not in touch with the common man, they are our betters and we could hardly expect them to eat the trash we do, but they want the best for us and know how to rule. Labour types, meanwhile, are supposed to be of the people and can be derided if they fail to do so.

It's HIGNFY syndrome: presenting a jokey (but not actually funny) observation that the observer knows is clearly untrue, to an audience who also clearly understands that the observation is untrue, and that the joke could be funnier, but laughs anyway.
