Washington Commons = Good. Great selection of beers on tap, more bottles coming soon according to the bartendress. Backyard is huge, still being put together, but huge. I drank an old speckled hen & some barleywine that was rich but delicious, can't remember the name. Prices are reasonable, happy hours 'til 8 during the week = -$2 off all beers.

also popped into the new bar "Manhattans" owned by Tracy of s1ber1a fame. Awful place. Bottles only, cigarette smoke, glasses & bottles from the night before still out everywhere, no atmosphere to speak of.

is this place open yet?
Der Schwarze Kölner Manchester, England, native and former Cologne resident Dale Hall, along with his girlfriend, Randi Lockemann, gives Fort Greene its first German beer garden. Eighteen Deutsch brews will be on tap, along with another 20 by the bottle. In keeping with Hall’s Cologne pedigree, three breweries from that city will represent. In addition to the beers, the space—which features communal tables indoors and both sidewalk and garden seating—will serve traditional foods. Cold items like wurst and cheese plates will be coming first, and hot dishes, including schnitzel and even more sausage, a couple months later. 710 Fulton St at South Oxford St, Fort Greene, Brooklyn (no phone yet)

went to the biergarten - was not feeling it - why beer gardens always got to have a fratty vibe - also strangely laid out and super loud - the service felt a lil inattentive and chaotic - it is new tho - would prob be fine on a slow afternoon to sit by the window - theyve got good beer
― ice cr?m, Wednesday, 19 August 2009 16:58 (sixteen years ago)

Rolf's on 3rd Ave is a cool old german place with free sandwiches at the bar during happy hour. at least it was, haven't been there for many years, can't comment on the clientele.
― mizzell, Thursday, 28 July 2011 19:08 (fourteen years ago)
I guess it's this one I meant:

cheapest bar les/east village?
― iatee, Tuesday, 16 August 2011 19:58 (fourteen years ago)
I mean it doesn't have to be the *single cheapest* that is probably dependent on a lot of factors but what place would be a bargain at 6 pm today? also would have seats.
― iatee, Tuesday, 16 August 2011 20:07 (fourteen years ago)

Monas or Music Box or that other one...there are multiple places with like $2 Budweisers during happy hour. Or whatever, but dirt cheap. Boxcar is 2-for-1 for HH.

Are there any non-awful bars in midtown east? I just want something that isn't 100% divey/old-man but doesn't have that "Ooh, happy hour, let's get appletinis" vibe
― i don't believe in zimmerman (Hurting 2), Monday, 23 April 2012 16:02 (fourteen years ago)
does Kips Bay count? this place was Ok as of a few years ago.

― World Congress of Itch (Dr Morbius), Monday, 23 April 2012 16:14 (fourteen years ago)
I went there recently. It's Irishy. Also there's liable to be music a lot of nights, since that place is "the home of Irish music in NYC." Which is a draw for me, but not for all.
― how did I get here? why am I in the whiskey aisle? this is all so (Laurel), Monday, 23 April 2012 16:15 (fourteen years ago)
like what streets in Midtown East? I'm at 44th around Grand Central and most everything around here blows. generic Irish bars with $8 pints. best one is probably O'Neill's at 45th and 3rd, decent happy hour. Perfect Pint around the corner on 45th is ok, multi-level with an open air roof bar, always mobbed though. those are my usual picks if I go out after work around here but like I said the prices are ridic. I'm hoping someone has a good answer for you actually.
there's also a relatively new german beer garden upstairs on 3rd Ave but I haven't tried it yet. Hofbrau Bierhaus.
― dmr, Monday, 23 April 2012 16:15 (fourteen years ago)
Hurting, 3rd Ave is chock-a-block with Irish bars?? Molly's is a good one.
