i do love when everyone on ilx - which is nothing if not a forum for people to refine the ultimate caricature of themselves - get on each other for being caricatures.

gabbo giftington (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 07:49 (twenty-two years ago)

it mostly angers me when people caricature other people, or indeed ilx as a whole. (ahem)

amateurist (amateurist), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 07:50 (twenty-two years ago)

don't make me dig up that alex in nyc parody thread.

gabbo giftington (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 07:52 (twenty-two years ago)

amateurist (amateurist), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 07:57 (twenty-two years ago)

gabbo giftington (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 07:58 (twenty-two years ago)

amateurist (amateurist), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 07:58 (twenty-two years ago)

gabbo giftington (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 07:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Maggie Gyllenhaal is great.

(Nuh-uh!)

75% of Tep doesn't have to be a consensus (ktepi), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 11:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Richard Yates, "Gabbo & Amateurist".

I really like Maggie Gyllenhaal. I like what someone said about her face being 'all melty'. Not that I agree. A teacher at Rada once told her to try breathing from between her legs. She says she'll try anything.

David. (Cozen), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 11:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Man there are SO MANY people that look like her! Not that that's bad, but why treat her so differently?

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 11:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Because you're allowed to stare at actresses.

N. (nickdastoor), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 11:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh, DUH. Yeah she's good for that, sure

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 11:43 (twenty-two years ago)

i told my wife that
i thought m.g. was real hott
she just laughed at me

but then later on
we saw secretary and
she kinda saw it

Haikunym (Haikunym), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 13:12 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm so glad this was revived. Maggie is hot. Let's go with multiple T's again just to be silly: HOTTT.

I still wish I looked like her.

What's she gonne be in next?

Sarah Mclusky (coco), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 13:24 (twenty-two years ago)

I find both Gyllenhaal siblings to be terribly unappealing.

tokyo rosemary (rosemary), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 14:03 (twenty-two years ago)

It's weird, it's not like she's "hawt" in the normal Pavlov's-Horndogs-all-go-"woo" sense, but she's totally hella attractive. I fell in love with her during the "how exactly does one suck a fuck?" argument in Donny Darko.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 14:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Upcoming Maggie films:

Mona Lisa Smile (dir. Mike Newell; with Julia Roberts, Kirsten Dunst, Julia Stiles) "This is the story of a free-spirited Berkeley graduate in 1953 [I'm assuming Roberts] who takes a position as a teacher at the women's college, Wellesley."

Casa de los Babys (dir. John Sayles; with Daryl Hannah, Mary Steenburgen, Lili Taylor, Marcia Gay Harden) "Six American women who planned on travelling to South America to adopt babies are forced, by law, to live there."

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 14:15 (twenty-two years ago)

They were both fucking funny in that Nickalicious, I wanted to MEET them. Best regularly associated siblings on screen since the Cusacks I reckon.

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 14:16 (twenty-two years ago)

SCENE SCENE

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 14:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Maggie Gyllenhaal, Mary Steenburgen, and Lili Taylor in the same movie? I'm already there.

(x-post with Andrew; totally! Have the Cusacks ever been in a movie together?)

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 14:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Joan and John? SHITLOADS of times! Well, like 3 anyway. '16 Candles', 'Grosse Point Blank', 'High Fidelity'. I bet there're others.

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 14:22 (twenty-two years ago)

I just watched High Fidelity again recently to see the Chicago scenes. It's great.

And I'm totally down for those new Maggie movies.

Sarah McLUsky (coco), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 14:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Also the Slits almost deserve a screen credit, the number of times the 'Cut' sleeve is in that movie

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 14:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Also, Say Anything. She plays his sister again.

NA (Nick A.), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 14:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Sarah, when I first moved to Chicago, shortly after High Fidelity came out, I got such a kick out of identifying the scenes. (Well, mostly just Championship Vinyl, on the corner of Milwaukee and Honore, in a building that is STILL boarded up, if I'm not mistaken.) (And apparently an old co-worker lived in the apartment that became Tim Robbins' in the movie; they paid her to live somewhere else for a month.)

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 14:34 (twenty-two years ago)

AWESOME.

Sarah McLUsky (coco), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 14:43 (twenty-two years ago)

How did I forget those flix!?! Those are like 4 of my favorite movies ever.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 14:48 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm w/ rosemary.

RJG (RJG), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 14:50 (twenty-two years ago)

You wouldn't make half as cute a pair.

N. (nickdastoor), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 15:09 (twenty-two years ago)

MG is one of those people who's attractive not so much because she's physically attractive (though she is cute) but because she actually seems like a nice, talented, intelligent person somehow. Maybe it's just "acting," or maybe that's what they call "charm." This may be deserving of its own thread but I'm too doped up on cold meds to do it.

NA (Nick A.), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 15:12 (twenty-two years ago)

It's still cause she's an actress, tho.

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 15:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Well exactly, NA - is it so hard for people to understand that attractiveness isn't all about static beauty? As I said upthread, you need to see her moving and talking.

I do think people are underestimating her static beauty though. She looks great naked too.

N. (nickdastoor), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 15:16 (twenty-two years ago)

ANdrew = Not necessarily. Haven't you ever met someone IRL who's not really attractive or unattractive based on their physical appearance, but their personality puts them in one category or the other?

NA (Nick A.), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 15:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Not anyone who's as pretty as MG, no.

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 15:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Agreed, Nick. And I'd say the same thing about Zooey Deschanel, from what I've seen of her.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 15:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Tho in general SURE, but let us not drag this down to a 'what's attractive' deal again

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 15:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Dude, jay, Zooey Deschanel was totally who I had in mind when I was writing that stuff. Have you seen "All the Real Girls"? The movie is so-so, but she's fantastic in it.

NA (Nick A.), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 15:34 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm really not into her at all to be honest.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 16:22 (twenty-two years ago)

haha, I don't know this zooey but recognise the surname. her mother was in and her dad directed some episodes of 'twin peaks'.

I also recognised the 'gyllenhaal' but never checked until now:: her dad directed an episode of 'twin peaks', too.

RJG (RJG), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 16:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Why have you got all the directors from Twin Peaks memorized? That's a bit odd, don't you think?

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 16:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Not if you're REALLY DAVID LYNCH!

NA (Nick A.), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 17:06 (twenty-two years ago)

it's RJG

gabbo giftington (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 17:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Sarah McLUsky (coco), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 17:13 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't want to be Maggie, I just want to be someone she wants to be with. < /emo-er than fuck>

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 17:18 (twenty-two years ago)

well that's a half-assed kind of love

ryan (ryan), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 17:31 (twenty-two years ago)

FYI:

Zooey Claire Deschanel: Born January 1980 (same year as one of my sisters), once dated Jason Schwartzman, is in a band called If All the Stars Were Pretty Babies

Maggie Gyllenhaal: Born in Nov. 1977 (my year!), debuted in Waterland- a movie with Ethan Hawke that as I remembered was not so good http://www.maggie-gyllenhaal.net/images/appearances/awards/movieline/004.jpg

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 17:44 (twenty-two years ago)

they're both too old for me, too.

I didn't memorize anything.
