Anyone else ever suddenly have like 1700 new spam followers overnight? No idea why or what to do with this.β the last famous person you were surprised to discover was actually (man alive), Sunday, October 23, 2016 6:46 PM (two hours ago) Bookmark Flag Post Permalink

I had a Twitter account I never used and when I signed into it after a year I had a thousand new followers from Saudi Arabia. They are their own weird Twitter shit going on there, like these really astral spiritual memes of ducks and cats.

ha, I did this too, didn't tell him anything and wasn't sure how he had his notifications set up but happily he suddenly got ~12k emails. was proud/offended that he immediately rang me accusingly
― ogmor, Monday, 24 October 2016 08:25 (nine years ago)
Yeah, that's it. I probably got it from here, actually.
― larry appleton, Monday, 24 October 2016 08:41 (nine years ago)
What's the point of these bot attacks though? What is gained by giving some rando thousands of followers?
― the last famous person you were surprised to discover was actually (man alive), Monday, 24 October 2016 13:00 (nine years ago)
Ok so which one of you
― the last famous person you were surprised to discover was actually (man alive), Monday, 24 October 2016 13:02 (nine years ago)
i've never had an influx of that many bot followers but i do get a bot follower here and there, maybe a few a month, i used to block them but now i don't care anymore, many of them unfollow me after a little while anyway
― marcos, Monday, 24 October 2016 14:01 (nine years ago)
Can you selectively hide who you follow? It seems kind of arbitrary that this is public in the first place imo.
― rip van wanko, Tuesday, 25 October 2016 02:34 (nine years ago)

add to the list of web twitter features i don't like
- when u start a soundcloud in yr feed and scroll past it the music stops; what, am i supposed to just sit there staring at the same 2 tweets the whole time?? can the ilxor who works for SC fix this?
- threads appearing in feed that begin halfway through the thread so u have to click thru the first tweet shown to see the top

I have to admit I never liked vine that much. I find the ultra-short loop format grating.

― goole, Thursday, 27 October 2016 16:52 (nine years ago)
damn, i never really used vine but it was an important format. it wasn't just about sharing video, it was all about the looping aspect. 6 seconds. that was an awesome constraint. RIP vine
