How many people do you follow MA? There's this twisted logic that accounts that have lots of followers but only follow a handful themselves are seen as more attractive to follow. I didn't believe this to be true at all, but my gf showed me and it really seems to work that way (she has nearly 8000 followers and follows abt 250 herself). I was following over a 1000 accounts at one point, then agreed to put her theory to the test. I brought those 1000 down to, like, 250, having 600 followers myself. Apart from some people unfollowing me for unfollowing them (lol), I did indeed gain more followers, and faster too (770 now).

things that get more followers ime: tweeting a lot; responding to others' tweets; retweeting a lot

Yes, and having some sort of expertise/field you work in, or special interest other than lulz helps as well.

this stuff is interesting to me, just the dynamics of all of it, especially since my non-pro account is kind of just a game

I've gotten a few follow-backs just by targeting accounts that are on the lower end for followers themselves, but that has limited benefit since if those accounts RT you it doesn't get that far

Are you tweeting with your name or anon? The former is much more appreciated for obvious reasons.

it's pretty obvious "nasty" doesn't have too carry sexist and misogynist vibes but it's often used that way and also "nasty" works really well with a reclaimed sexual image and looks good on t-shirts and obviously has done well in song

I'm not really sure what twitter drama that tweet was responding to so mb i'm lacking context (but, saying reactionary shit to counterbalance annoying ppl on twitter is dumb imo), but taken literally it sounds like she is saying, "how is being interrupted by a man calling you "such a nasty woman" while you are in a professional setting "even sexist?" (I can't think of anything more sexist) and "how sheltered would you have to be to even bat an eyelash at that?" just sounds like "toughen up"
