whoa do newer apple phones not suffer big battery drain when the mobile network is weak? b/c my 5-experience matches gbx's in that regard.

I think the radios are better so you get better signal which means it's less of an issue

cheap keys, no esc, wtf

Dan I., Wednesday, 26 October 2016 13:22 (nine years ago)

No physical esc sucks but contextual function keys is potentially super useful.

dan selzer, Wednesday, 26 October 2016 13:48 (nine years ago)

how am I going to emacs now

Emacs heavier on Ctrl

seems fucked up but have you ever looked at the buttons on any dell laptop

I think they're getting better but holy shit man. It's like the invention of the laptop made people think you needed to cram all the buttons that were on the front of your desktop, on your monitor, and the keyboard keys on to the laptop somewhere

kind of waiting for laptops to just have one big button you can maybe push if you want to

Apparently the button votes for Trump and self-destructs.

dan selzer, Wednesday, 26 October 2016 16:55 (nine years ago)

brb photoshopping "NUT" on to that button in the comic

That new Surface Studio by M$ looks pretty fantastic. That company is doing a lot of things right.

Brevs Mekis (dandydonweiner), Thursday, 27 October 2016 02:26 (nine years ago)

Yup! Want the new surface book or the old one on eBay!

calstars, Thursday, 27 October 2016 02:40 (nine years ago)

The form factor is terrific, but how to cope with Windows...

Brevs Mekis (dandydonweiner), Thursday, 27 October 2016 02:43 (nine years ago)

the Dial looks useful, too

Brevs Mekis (dandydonweiner), Thursday, 27 October 2016 02:43 (nine years ago)

hey guess what guys: its thinner

้พœ, Thursday, 27 October 2016 17:48 (nine years ago)

the strip is not as terrible as i assumed it would be

bitcoin bajas (diamonddave85), Thursday, 27 October 2016 17:49 (nine years ago)

touch bar keyboard for desktops?

dan selzer, Thursday, 27 October 2016 18:05 (nine years ago)

best product lineup ever, with no mention at all of all the out of date desktops? ugh.

dan selzer, Thursday, 27 October 2016 18:24 (nine years ago)

guess I'll take this over to the hate thread.

dan selzer, Thursday, 27 October 2016 18:25 (nine years ago)

the UK pricing.... fucking ouch

||||||||, Thursday, 27 October 2016 18:37 (nine years ago)

a hard brexit

mh ๐Ÿ˜, Thursday, 27 October 2016 18:58 (nine years ago)

imo the marketing on the website saying "connect two 5K displays and two RAID arrays!" makes me think the interim plan is to ignore the desktop world completely and go full laptop

mh ๐Ÿ˜, Thursday, 27 October 2016 18:59 (nine years ago)

the strip is so dumb

marcos, Thursday, 27 October 2016 19:02 (nine years ago)

Agree. Too small to be useful

calstars, Thursday, 27 October 2016 19:25 (nine years ago)

Yeah I guessed plan was for no standalone pros any longer as well. I did think they might do a standalone key board with bar though.

Fuck that pricing is killer though.

stet, Thursday, 27 October 2016 19:35 (nine years ago)

Don't see it that way. The buttons w Ike's labels on my Wacom tablet are useful. I see this as a better version if that. As somehow who often can't remember which function key does what in various programs, that alone is useful.

dan selzer, Thursday, 27 October 2016 19:36 (nine years ago)

The bar seems gimmicky. I like the touch ID part.

schwantz, Thursday, 27 October 2016 19:38 (nine years ago)

They have hiked the decrepit Mac Pro by ยฃ500!

stet, Thursday, 27 October 2016 19:45 (nine years ago)

that strip looks like those touch-thermometers that you're supposed to apply to your kid's head in order to read temperature, that never work correctly and that I always throw away

maximum system memory is 16 GB

http://www.avclub.com/article/apple-isnt-including-standard-usb-ports-its-new-ma-244981

Debuted in 2014, USB-C is designed to be โ€œfuture-proof,โ€ resistant to changing technical whims. (Weโ€™re sure Apple engineers will crack that problem, too, though, given enough time.)

perfect

Autumn Almanac, Friday, 28 October 2016 00:40 (nine years ago)

Autumn Almanac, Friday, 28 October 2016 00:40 (nine years ago)
