thought this was a pretty awful episode again but much better than the miranda episode. nadir for me was the robot sketch, which was just excruciating. chonk definitely the highlight of the show, and weekend update wasn't too bad - not a huge fan of jost and che in general.
why do i keep watching this show? haha.
― *-* (jim in vancouver), Monday, 17 October 2016 17:35 (nine years ago)
i liked the robot sketch. I liked the hamster sketch at the end too.
― akm, Monday, 17 October 2016 17:56 (nine years ago)
I hated the robot and hamster sketches!
Chonk was amazing agreed.

whats this i hear about an angry whopper is a good line
― johnny crunch, Monday, 17 October 2016 23:28 (nine years ago)
I didn't laugh out loud much but I really did love that bizarre clusterfuck of a sketch, had it aired later it'd be an all-time 5-to-1 classic
― a simba man (Will M.), Monday, 17 October 2016 23:31 (nine years ago)
Just watched Chonk, and it's funny, but if that was the highlight...
― rip van wanko, Tuesday, 18 October 2016 00:19 (nine years ago)
It was. But agree with Will that the limo sketch should've been later, it would've capitalized on that weirdo energy they get around that time. Sometimes.

writers room really seemed to think ken bone was the big story of the week
― carthago delenda est (mayor jingleberries), Tuesday, 18 October 2016 00:34 (nine years ago)
The limo sketch would've been better if Kevin Roberts showed up

Truth.
― Lawsonomy Domine (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Tuesday, 18 October 2016 00:51 (nine years ago)
thehamster sketch reminded me of early SNL; where it wasn't 'funny' so much as, well, here's a concept: what if who's afraid of virgina woolfe was played by hamsters? Ok, let's build a whole bunch of props and a set to support this dumb idea.
― akm, Tuesday, 18 October 2016 02:23 (nine years ago)
hamster sketch was really well done i thought. only highlight of the show for me. acting really sold it.
― rip my mensches (s.clover), Tuesday, 18 October 2016 06:06 (nine years ago)
The sink was pretty good as well. And the short film - not so much the sketch, though Vanessa Bayer was good, but the short film itself. This season has been pretty weird at times. Shame about the live sketches, they're mostly rubbish, but a lot of good stuff around the margins.
― Frederik B, Tuesday, 18 October 2016 12:07 (nine years ago)
Vanessa Bayer on Weekend Update was great
― ¶ (DJP), Tuesday, 18 October 2016 15:04 (nine years ago)
I love that bit but like so many it's getting a bit tired.
― dan selzer, Tuesday, 18 October 2016 15:06 (nine years ago)
I have megacrush on Vanessa Bayer
― rip van wanko, Tuesday, 18 October 2016 15:09 (nine years ago)
Back of the line, pal
But really that character she did on WU is so perfect.
― Lawsonomy Domine (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Tuesday, 18 October 2016 23:41 (nine years ago)
If you havent seen it before, it's been a lot better in the past. Check it out.
― dan selzer, Wednesday, 19 October 2016 02:54 (nine years ago)
i hadn't seen that character. it was funny. she is crushworthy, though I like cecily strong more in that department. and I'd be happy if Nasim Pedrad came back.
― akm, Wednesday, 19 October 2016 04:13 (nine years ago)
I think the child-actor character started like her first season on the show. Totally worth searching that sketch out.
― Lawsonomy Domine (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Wednesday, 19 October 2016 06:54 (nine years ago)
This sketch is so pitch perfect it almost hurts.

TS: Kevin Roberts vs David S Pumpkins
― musically, Monday, 24 October 2016 17:53 (nine years ago)
Kevin Roberts by a mile.
― schwantz, Monday, 24 October 2016 18:07 (nine years ago)
David S. Pumpkins felt like an attempt to re-Reynolds. Can't be done.
― Lawsonomy Domine (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Monday, 24 October 2016 18:19 (nine years ago)
hanks is a great host imo
― johnny crunch, Monday, 24 October 2016 18:25 (nine years ago)
I wish I could find the "I stubbed my toe" bit Hanks did in place of a monologue once. It had Abraham Lincoln.
― Lawsonomy Domine (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Monday, 24 October 2016 18:41 (nine years ago)
i think kate mckinnon's alien abduction one w/ryan gosling is all time top 10

xxxp Wait it's Roberts isn't it? Guhhh.
― Lawsonomy Domine (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Monday, 24 October 2016 20:19 (nine years ago)
Kevin Roberts is my fav and I use "Can a bitch get a doughnut?" in conversation more than anyone would think possible.
― musically, Monday, 24 October 2016 21:34 (nine years ago)
Jeet Heer et al loved this sketch, there was even a WaPo blog about it apparently

black jeopardy is always good
― k3vin k., Monday, 24 October 2016 23:29 (nine years ago)
the final sketch was good again this week too. feel like this has been a really strong season? note I have barely watched this show over the past 10 years.
― akm, Tuesday, 25 October 2016 03:22 (nine years ago)
In general, this cast kills it even when the material isn't that strong.
― ¶ (DJP), Tuesday, 25 October 2016 14:30 (nine years ago)
the veteran new york stand up comedy guy on the news always kills me, and i loved hanks as a guest on it

seriously the french voiceovers on funny animal youtubes.... that was first 30 minutes worthy

aaagh my stream died before we got to the news which means I missed a Bruce CHandling it which means I am sad :(

Love Bruce Chandling. My wife HATES Bruce Chandling.
― Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 25 October 2016 17:43 (nine years ago)
Bruce Chandling was cut for time, but is on youtube. I normally don't like him, but found Mooney quite moving after Hanks came on.
― Frederik B, Tuesday, 25 October 2016 17:47 (nine years ago)
it's a variant of the neil hamburger thing - the hacky comic juxtaposed w pathos. The bit's not as aggro as Hamburger but Mooney does it v well imo
― Οὖτις, Tuesday, 25 October 2016 17:49 (nine years ago)
didn't see the most recent bruce chandling but i often feel that it goes over really poorly with the studio audience which makes it come over kind of badly, though i personally find it funny

chandling wasn't on this week
― akm, Tuesday, 25 October 2016 17:56 (nine years ago)
The Black Jeopardy was pretty good and I love Keenan.
But I hated his reaction lines. "YES! WE ALL KNOW A GUY LIKE THAT! THERE'S ONE IN EVERY NEIGHBORHOOD!"
I mean, I got the joke the first time.
― pplains, Tuesday, 25 October 2016 17:57 (nine years ago)
people on facebook from my hometown were saying this as well, but they were all white, and my hometown has less than 100 black people in it, so it just feels weird to make that comment, unless you're/we're talking about Tom Hanks' trump hat dude, though there's a bunch of them in my hometown.
― sarahell, Tuesday, 25 October 2016 17:58 (nine years ago)
Love Bruce. As mentioned just above it was cut for time. Will have to watch it. There's two other Bruce bits cut for time in the past that are great, online.
― dan selzer, Tuesday, 25 October 2016 17:59 (nine years ago)
bouie really liked the black jeopardy sketch. i had the opposite reaction (didn't find it so funny) but figured it just wasn't targeted to me:http://www.slate.com/articles/news_and_politics/politics/2016/10/snl_s_black_jeopardy_sketch_was_the_most_astute_analysis_of_american_politics.html
