lol I always assumed it was mostly old people where one wouldn't have had an account prior to being married but wants to check grandchild pictures or something, but that makes more sense

I have a friend like that. She first friended me years ago under her name "Angela Beauchamp". Later we were apparently defriended, and then she readded me under the account "Angela N Kevin Beauchamp". I got another friend request from her about a month ago under the "Angela Beauchamp" moniker again, and she is not currently friends with the "Angela N Kevin" account, which has apparently defriended me but is still active.

mpls has a new racist page focusing on the bike trail running through town. a lot of blurry pictures of african-american people which i think are supposed to be scary and mentioning/tagging all the foudnations/city council people who support the bike trail. you can tell whoever runs it is a psycho

totally makes sense. based on the handful of fb connections i have that use this i figured it was probably one of those evangelical-approved methods for navigating the earthly hazards of the social media age. no reason it can't be a combo of all the above.

bike paths (of the "cycle track"/protected bike lane variety) have been a hot topic on mine lately too. last year they put one in a very rich neighborhood. everyone was so mad. they can't double park anymore, there are less parking spots, bicyclists should use the sidewalk, whatever. now they're putting in another one in a really good place for bike commuting to downtown and it's starting again. like this is going to add time to my already short commute which i should not even be using a car for. waaaaaa.

There's a woman in NE Mpls called Sh3lly who berates non-racists in her neighbourhood and/or deletes them from the group. One of my HS friends has fallen foul of her. Bonus: Sh3lly is craaazy about guns and her "pitties".

i love the turns conversations on next door take, as usual my page is flooded with innocuous posts about missing animals or gardening and then the most recent comments, the only visible ones, are along the lines of "well Judy maybe if you pulled your dumb head out of your a** you'd see that i was talking about people who walk Fido off leash and not responsible dog owners"
― nomar, Friday, 7 October 2016 18:11 (nine years ago)
finally got an invite to nextdoor and immediately logged in to see who was racist in my neighborhood, to my disappointment/relief the entire thing is "i'm selling my old phone" and "whose dog is that loose" and "lost my cat / forget it, found my cat"

So this lady barely older than me moved back into the neighborhood. Good news is that she doesn't post about teenagers walking down the street at 9 pm. Bad news is that she's full of nostalgia about the "good ol' days" in every post - you know, circa. 1983.
I still read NextDoor because it's not Facebook. But this woman threw a grenade without knowing it, I think.

Someone started a petition now over this taxi stand on the main drag in my neighborhood. For some reason people have decided that the line of cabs is too long and they want it to be shorter, but no one can seem to give a coherent reason why. It's "congestion" but it's a busy six-lane commerical road and the cab stand is only on the service road. People say really dumb shit like "clearly we don't need that many cabs" when obviously if we didn't need that many cabs, that many cabs wouldn't be congregating there waiting for pickups.

Walking West on Lyr1c between St Ge0rge and M0non Tuesday night. I pass 3 black guys 2 short, 1 big 6'3" 220 + wearing white shirts and black baseball hats and smoking something, saw the fire, just hanging out near the corner. I passed them and turned North on M0non and came across this lovely graffiti. Coincidence maybe or maybe not.

Hello Neighbors, Just a note to be aware of...someone has been steadily at work DISMANTLEING the fence which restricts access to the empty lot at the foot of Orange Street... you know, the one with the growing collection of Graffiti in ever more resplendent colors.
Day by day, piece by piece they have removed the supports, upper cross piece, brackets etc so that today I noticed that one end of the fence is DOWN, with fresh graffiti and a 'signature' logo (man's head) on the ground inscribed via poured paint. You can see this guys work all over West Oakland and now he's working on us.
I'm sure he means to continue the damage further, so please keep an eye out and call police (?!) if needed. The owners of the empty lot seem to care not and "code enforcement" has stepped back from graffiti on private property. I once begged code enforcement to inspect the lot and clear it as a FIRE HAZZARD one Fall when there was lots of dry grass waiting to catch fire but it NEVER happened. And now we know what happens when fire hazards go unattended to.

there's a group for bethnal green, in east london, which i was in but eventually turned off notifications for. it became colonised by exiled londoners in their 50s or 60s - their conversations were a mixture of nostalgia and racism. like someone would tell quite a nice story about getting dolled up on a friday night to go to some now defunct pub, and seeing all their friends there, and how everyone looked so nice and the whole street would be out, and it actually did sound really nice, then the next comment would be "wouldn't happen today! too many of the other lot around!" or something and the person who'd told the nice wistful story would agree. generally made me wish you could remove the wistfulness from the racism.

haha - i guess i meant more that it'd be nice if they didn't have to coexist, but yes ideally the racism would vanish.

I have never used an Internet neighborhood forum but I just read through this thread and the Sherwin Williams thing is KILLING me. The particular form of ubiquitous Internet racism seen in this thread is however super familiar to me from any number of times trying to Google neighborhoods and specific buildings while doing spare-time architectural semi-research - in particular the same type of good-old-days obsessive crank who jumps on any topic to report BLACK PEOPLE seen in the vicinity seems to spend a lot of time searching discussion boards where people are visitng or thinking of moving to a city and asking if neighborhood X is a safe area. The quantity of barely-concealed and almost-never-challenged racism that comes pouring out in response is stomach-turning.

The posters who feel they have to tip-toe gently through the Garden of Politically Correct by saying things like "The man who walked through my yard was an African-American gentleman who was carrying a large backpack."
Lady, just say what you were going to say so we'll all at least know which yard to dump our garbage this week. After all, Presidents Day was yesterday, but does that mean the truck will come by on Wednesday or Thursday?

Young twentysomething guy sitting on the sidewalk on ********** smoking a joint at 1:30pm. He is driving a black Toyota with dealer non-license plates with the car running. Walked past him twice and he didn't make any effort to hide what he was doing. Probably just a dumbass, but something about the whole scene is very off.

This artist, designer, dancer, and transformation coach (me!) is going through a housing transformation. A sudden 25% rent increase for the rent here in Sunset Pointe (Marina Bay) means it's time for me to (wo)manifest my next lovely home. Here I am at a crossroads. I see three paths....
β’ Path 1 will lead to a rental of my own. I'd like to stay in the Marina Bay area, or Albany, Berkeley, El Cerrito, Oakland, but have you seen the rental prices lately? I am open to widening my search radius as wide as necessary. (Iowa?) β’ Path 2: You've got a great house and you are looking for an awesome sage wisewoman to move in with you and make a home together. Roommates, an inlaw...? β’ Path 3: You too need a new place and want to team up to find one and get more for our money.
Some more about me: β’ I make the world's best kombucha (as I'm often told), I'm a paleo-locavore-seasonal chef, I kinda-sorta garden (greens, snap peas, and succulents), and I'm very tidy. Even though it adds some stress, I haven't followed up on listings that have electric stoves (yet!), I like gas for cooking. β’ I like to work at home. My business is online -- coaching, branding, design, marketing. Clients never visit me at my home office (except over Zoom and Skype calls, that is). I need some space for my computer/printer/workstation setup. I'm flexible about working out of the home a bit, and going off with my laptop now and then, but ergonomics and finances make it really important for me to have a home office space. β’ I have a cat allergy. I know that's a big one. β’ I have never missed a rent or mortgage payment (or even been late!). β’ I'm kind, generous, funny, smart, and have a robust current spiritual inner journey.
There was something else, but I can't remember.
Please, if you have any information that may help me, please get in touch. Blessed be.
