Ruiz' The Lines of Wellington was one of those that were both film and tv-series at the same time. I honestly thought Mysteries of Lisbon was like that too, but seems I've been mistaken. It would be great on NBC, with commercial breaks!

“It is a great and wonderful recognition of the work I have been doing for over 50 years,” (Wiseman) said. “What has kept me going is that it is fun and an adventure. Constantly working keeps me off the street, or at least on the streets that I like. I am lucky to have found work that I like and continue to be obsessed with,” he said while also thanking his family. “They recognized long ago that I am a New England Jewish Puritan and let me go my errant ways.”
Finally it was time for what Academy actors branch Governor Tom Hanks called “the man who puts the Chan in Chantastic.” Hanks noted that the two genres Jackie Chan works in – martial arts and action comedies – have been historically under-represented at the Oscars, “but that will change if I have any pull on the Board of Governors.” He described Chan’s work as a mix between John Wayne and Buster Keaton. “How is this possible out of one man?”
And the man himself could not have been more excited on stage last night in his acceptance. “I still can’t believe I am standing here. It’s a dream. A long time ago when I watched the Oscars with my Dad, he said ‘Son, you get so many movie awards around the world. When are you going to get one of these?’ Finally (Academy President) Cheryl calls. I said ‘are you sure?.’ After 56 years in the film industry, making more than 200 films, after so many bones, finally this is mine.” Among fellow action stars in the room rooting him on were Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone.

Only just caught up with Hansen-Løve's Things to Come (I thought Eden was terrible, so had avoided it up to now). Anyway, excellent movie and Huppert is, again, superb in it - love the moments of comedy, especially with the fat black cat, that undermine both the character and Huppert's high seriousness. Would be great to see her take on a fully comic role (has she ever done this before?)

― a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Thursday, 2 March 2017 01:11 (seven years ago) link
That is not what happened. Variety traditionally puts the Best Director winner (in this case, Damien Chazelle) on the morning after cover. Due to the unique and historical circumstances around Moonlight's win (not the flub, just the importance of the movie winning Best Pic I think) they asked Chazelle and Jenkins to do a joint cover. Jenkins himself on Twitter:
https://twitter.com/BandryBarry/status/837045876602241026
@shaehag @Variety There just is absolutely no controversy here. Had La La Land won pic and me director I would have the cover.
People reacting to a very cool/historical and I think good choice to honor Jenkins as well as Chazelle by literally inventing fake news outrage.

Covert not overt. As a film crit colleague wrote today Moonlight is explicitly about a gay character coming of age. Voight is clearly the star of MC, and even though Ratso is clearly coded as gay, Joe Buck's place on the Kinsey scale is more ambiguous.

With a modified card, even if the presenters had gotten the wrong one, none of this would have happened because the presenters would’ve looked at it and one of two things would’ve happened: Their eyes would’ve read “Best Actress” or “Emma Stone.” Reading either of those would indicate that this wasn’t the card for Best Picture, and they would’ve asked Jimmy Kimmel or a producer to the stage to get it corrected. The card needed to be written and designed in a way that makes it clear to the reader only the essential information.
