― lag∞n, Saturday, 3 September 2016 03:54 (nine years ago)

twitter in browser (chrome) problem: when people post screenshots of tweets, pics are too small to see text and there's no way to open just the pic in another tab. have to zoom in like an idiot. any workaround?
― flopson, Sunday, 4 September 2016 15:23 (nine years ago)
u cn open the pic in another tab is what i do
― lag∞n, Sunday, 4 September 2016 17:01 (nine years ago)
on mac at least left click > open image in new tab
― lag∞n, Sunday, 4 September 2016 17:03 (nine years ago)

this is a good twitter
― j., Sunday, 11 September 2016 04:35 (nine years ago)
I think the thing that ultimately keeps me off twitter is how public it is. But the format of conversations also annoys the shit out of me.

i think im gonna quit for a while soon.. it's making me dumb
― flopson, Monday, 12 September 2016 14:54 (nine years ago)
had my first moderately successful tweet yesterday, only to find someone else who made the exact same tweet hours later with 5x the RTs/favs of me :'(
gave you a fav, hope it helped

Like occasionally I come up with semi-pithy shit to say and put it on facebook and get a lot of likes and I think "I could get fifty times the adrenaline hits on twitter!" But it's so not worth risking harassment, my job etc.
― the last famous person you were surprised to discover was actually (man alive), Monday, 12 September 2016 15:03 (nine years ago)
just take an anonymous handle

― lag∞n, Monday, 12 September 2016 15:11 (nine years ago)
i'm on twitter but i'm just kind of half in, half not, i think of shit to tweet a lot but ultimately i just think "whats the point", same w/ facebook
nicholson baker followed me today though so that made me happy. he's new to twitter and is just following everyone who follows him but i dont really care
― marcos, Monday, 12 September 2016 15:16 (nine years ago)

thx bb
― flopson, Monday, 12 September 2016 15:45 (nine years ago)
if you are used to seeing certain numbers on instagram then twitter numbers are kinda small fry comparatively and can be depresso if you care about that sort of thing
― illegal economic migration (Tracer Hand), Monday, 12 September 2016 15:49 (nine years ago)
radio producers never tire of pointing out that social media managers who make more money than them get excited about retweets in the hundreds range while a middling radio show can have, say, several million listeners... per day
― illegal economic migration (Tracer Hand), Monday, 12 September 2016 15:51 (nine years ago)
yeah but how many rebroadcasts do they get
― lag∞n, Monday, 12 September 2016 15:53 (nine years ago)
need a definitive listen to fave ratio1 listen != 1 fave
― dr. mercurio arboria (mh 😏), Monday, 12 September 2016 15:56 (nine years ago)
the closest equivalent would probably be the bullshit "impressions" number that gets thrown around but that's a simple calculation of followers who may have scrolled past it in their timelines afaik
― illegal economic migration (Tracer Hand), Monday, 12 September 2016 15:58 (nine years ago)
radio has a captive audience, what if u were forced to read twitter and RT stuff 45 mins twice a day
who is marcos on twitter
― flopson, Monday, 12 September 2016 15:58 (nine years ago)
kinda captive but kinda not? partic in 2016? in any case even if you consider that many ppl are doing other things while listening to the radio - shopping, building a house, doing the dishes, driving - there is a pretty strong case that the attention is more focused, more sustained, and results in more loyalty than scrolling past one tweet among many
― illegal economic migration (Tracer Hand), Monday, 12 September 2016 16:01 (nine years ago)
i mean, you have to be listening to something in the car, radio is the default and most ppl are lazy and still in 2016 not that good at technology
also whenever i listen to the radio they just talk about twitter
― flopson, Monday, 12 September 2016 16:04 (nine years ago)
there's a big wall in every room that has tweets just scrolling on by
twitter's "important/interesting tweets at the top, no chronological view of all tweets from people you follow" experiments are kind of orthagonal to radio? you get a snapshot of content from when you look at it but it's variable depending on when you happen to glance
do you guys use tweet markers or w/e that let you start reading where you left off or just dive into the recent tweets and scroll backward until you lose interest?
― dr. mercurio arboria (mh 😏), Monday, 12 September 2016 16:07 (nine years ago)
the default twitter client makes it basically impossible. i tried to use tweetbot but ultimately it just sucked too much
― illegal economic migration (Tracer Hand), Monday, 12 September 2016 16:14 (nine years ago)
I still enjoy Twitter and am on it a lot. I just don't use the Twitter homepage or app, which both are complete crap. I want my Tl chronological, without suggestions, adds, "top tweets" and all that bullshit. Tweetbot for me on iOS and Mac.
Tweetbot remembers where I was catching up in my Tl, which works as a marker (across platforms, too).
Recently I've started deleting old convos and tweets, every week or so. I think of it as being in a bar, having a convo. If I were to go into the bar the next day my words of the day before won't still be echoing there either (one hopes). And this works for me. Do you guys delete?
― Le Bateau Ivre, Monday, 12 September 2016 16:14 (nine years ago)
I follow too many ppl to read all the tweets. just tap in, read the feed till i feel nauseous, check out what my fav accounts tweeted in the last few days. don't really care about chronological or algorithmic
― flopson, Monday, 12 September 2016 16:18 (nine years ago)
tweetbot here, too. it takes a second if I've switched from phone to computer to sync where I left off but works pretty well
― dr. mercurio arboria (mh 😏), Monday, 12 September 2016 16:18 (nine years ago)
i make no attempt to read all the tweets lol guys embrace the cascade
― lag∞n, Monday, 12 September 2016 16:20 (nine years ago)
or just dive into the recent tweets and scroll backward until you lose interest?
yea thats what i do
― marcos, Monday, 12 September 2016 16:21 (nine years ago)
embrace the cascade
yea
there are too many tweets to read them all
― marcos, Monday, 12 September 2016 16:22 (nine years ago)
I don't follow enough ppl I guess!
― dr. mercurio arboria (mh 😏), Monday, 12 September 2016 16:25 (nine years ago)
follow at least 700 imo
― lag∞n, Monday, 12 September 2016 16:26 (nine years ago)
ive prob said this on here before but one thing that made twitter way better for me was i unfollowed almost all organizations and now mostly only follow actual people
― lag∞n, Monday, 12 September 2016 16:27 (nine years ago)
i hate lists and have a second twitter account that's just to follow art collectives and music labels and stuff
― dr. mercurio arboria (mh 😏), Monday, 12 September 2016 16:29 (nine years ago)
it's like my professional account, if my profession was following fashion/music/deep thoughts
― dr. mercurio arboria (mh 😏), Monday, 12 September 2016 16:30 (nine years ago)
[thinks deeply]
― lag∞n, Monday, 12 September 2016 16:31 (nine years ago)
now that i think abt it i use twitter for personal/joke/weirdo type stuff and simultaneously as a journo/political replacement for google reader. there's a lot of crossover but hmm
i have a feedly account and i never look at it :/
― goole, Monday, 12 September 2016 16:32 (nine years ago)
yeah I have a subscription to some google reader replacement thing and never look at that, either. idk if the moment for aggregation like that has passed because of twitter or what
― dr. mercurio arboria (mh 😏), Monday, 12 September 2016 16:33 (nine years ago)
twitter + too many tabs + delete the tabs w/o reading = google reader
― lag∞n, Monday, 12 September 2016 16:35 (nine years ago)
no way i read a ton more! the rss era was great, fu @jack
― goole, Monday, 12 September 2016 16:36 (nine years ago)
I read almost all tweets. Follow 740.
― Jeff, Monday, 12 September 2016 16:38 (nine years ago)
i close all tabs and use Pinboard now it's working out so far

need to do this
update: my tweet's got a second win... at this rate may outpace other tweet in hours
― flopson, Monday, 12 September 2016 16:39 (nine years ago)
this universal acknowledgment that nobody reads links combined with people trying to write blog posts through a series of numbered tweets (you know they're going to be good when someone drafts nothing and starts with 1/X) is really the worst
