morbs and vg did you guys see 'knock knock'? i'll rep for a lot of keanu movies that everyone else hates but this one was really, REALLY fucking terrible.

worse than the Lake House?

i've been trying to understand why my crush on keanu reeves has increased exponentially over the last five years and i think it's because the dream of the 90s is alive in him

well i guess it depends on the individual. the lake house was corny but i loved it for keanu. knock knock is a thriller/horror which isn't my typical type of movie. but the story was totally utterly stupid and the acting was lame from the whole cast. so if you're not normally down for romance movies, lake house still might be the worst.

― Elvis Telecom, Thursday, 2 March 2017 11:30 (nine years ago)
I've rewinded the part where he reloads in the middle of shooting a guy at the club at least three times so far.
― Elvis Telecom, Thursday, 2 March 2017 11:32 (nine years ago)
It's great at what it does and there really aren't enough movies in any genre that embrace that aim
― The Perks of Being a Wall St R (darraghmac), Thursday, 2 March 2017 11:47 (nine years ago)
It tickles my "appreciation of efficient reloading" gland, which I wasn't aware I had. Arguably this would make it an effective video-game movie.
― Andrew Farrell, Thursday, 2 March 2017 12:13 (nine years ago)
JW2 is okay but pretty flabby and about 10X more ridiculous. I want to know if it's set in a libertarian utopia where all policing is handled via contract killing.
― Kiarostami bag (milo z), Thursday, 2 March 2017 12:15 (nine years ago)
What's the deal with Keanu? I hear he's kind of a loner who lives in a modest apartment in NYC and never got over the tragic death of his fiancee, or something, which makes an intriguing profile. He intersting
― rip van wanko, Thursday, 2 March 2017 13:31 (nine years ago)
Idk but a friend once knocked on his door in L.A. doing some political fundraising and apparently he was exceedingly chill and nice.

I really dug JW2 - it's not as lean as the first movie, some of the set pieces are overlong but for the most part I think it's a worthy sequel & I liked it so much I saw it twice
Chris Hardwick said the Continental network of purveyors was like Diagon Alley in Harry Potter & I cant unsee it now, lol
What was the thing Peter Serafinowicz the Sommelier was wearing around his neck? It looked like a sink strainer
Somehow I missed the whole thing with stairs & descent first time round: literally every set-piece begins with or involves him "descending" - underground to the catacombs, staircases, escalators, elevators. Maybe too on the nose for some but I was into it.
And the "Reflections of the Soul" exhibition scenes looked fantastic I thought.
― Flamenco Drop (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 2 March 2017 17:33 (nine years ago)
the Common & Keanu fight on the stairs, and in the train.... OMG SO GOOD
― Flamenco Drop (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 2 March 2017 17:36 (nine years ago)
That sequence also contains the chillest gun fight ever
― Andrew Farrell, Thursday, 2 March 2017 17:44 (nine years ago)
if John Wick 3 doesn't have Common return with the knife still in his chest, held in place by some kind of elaborate apparatus to keep him alive, i'll be vv disappointed.
― nomar, Thursday, 2 March 2017 17:47 (nine years ago)
Ruby Rose too - they have to keep pressure on each other's knives so they're always throwing knives/guns to each other.
― Andrew Farrell, Thursday, 2 March 2017 17:49 (nine years ago)
I hope they are setting up Common to return, a la the Forest Whittaker character who helped John after being left in a similar state
― Flamenco Drop (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 2 March 2017 18:35 (nine years ago)
Laurence Fishburne, innit? Though he was pretty Ghost Dog.

xpost uggh yes apologies to Larry Fishburne, talk about a brain fart

Keanu 52 is fiiiiiiiiiiiine
― Flamenco Drop (VegemiteGrrl), Friday, 3 March 2017 01:07 (nine years ago)
Keanu 52 is the kind of guy who quotes Shakespeare sonnets unprompted which is somehow both douchey and endearing. Or maybe it's just endearing cause it's Keanu.

― Roz, Friday, 3 March 2017 09:21 (nine years ago)
"Chill gunfight" maybe the rare joke that is too stoopid even for a film about assassin club, felt like true lies or something
I liked this film except for the boring bits. I wonder if each film will keep doubling down on "opening fire with an automatic weapon in a club is good"
― wins, Friday, 3 March 2017 09:46 (nine years ago)
That's p tiresome stuff in a thread about a Hollywood action movie maybe.
― The Perks of Being a Wall St R (darraghmac), Friday, 3 March 2017 09:56 (nine years ago)
which the thought about the joke or the wondering if next film will have a similar scene
― wins, Friday, 3 March 2017 10:01 (nine years ago)

― The Perks of Being a Wall St R (darraghmac), Friday, 3 March 2017 10:29 (nine years ago)
idk feels about on a level with "this film has stairs in it" but ok
― wins, Friday, 3 March 2017 10:33 (nine years ago)
Not gonna lie there's a certain lethargy to my protests so yknow maybe keanu just exudes this heavy vibe that reaches even unto threads on msg boards idk

Hollywood action movies are for children
― Supercreditor (Dr Morbius), Friday, 3 March 2017 12:29 (nine years ago)
This movie's legacy is only going to be burnished by the existence of Assassin's Creed.

oh is darragh not into tiresome posts
― r|t|c, Friday, 3 March 2017 15:04 (nine years ago)
I seen both films recently. I think they're okay but I liked that they concentrated so much on the action because it seems to me most big action films get bogged down in a load of character drama and plot that they can barely muster or pretend they care. Maybe it's because Keanu is one of the few stars outside East Asia that can carry that much action.
― Robert Adam Gilmour, Friday, 3 March 2017 16:10 (nine years ago)
Hyperbolic headline notwithstanding, this writeup p much nails what I dig about the John Wick movies in particular
http://www.vulture.com/2017/02/keanu-reeves-is-our-greatest-action-star.html
― Flamenco Drop (VegemiteGrrl), Friday, 3 March 2017 16:51 (nine years ago)
and it dovetails with Robert Adam Gimour's post somewhat re Keanu & Asian action
― Flamenco Drop (VegemiteGrrl), Friday, 3 March 2017 16:52 (nine years ago)
that's a good article. i think the John Wick flicks also resemble in some ways the Chow-Yun Fat movie Full Contact, with their revenge arcs, though latter movie doesn't have nearly as much humor. The world created for the movies and the casual way in which its depicted and the offhand manner in which its explained (which is to say not at all) is also pretty key. and the insistence on a color palette revolving around black and blue and red and purple vs teal and orange is vv nice.
