Rae Kwoniff (NickB), Thursday, 18 August 2016 15:11 (nine years ago)

Off to Ramsgate for Contra Pop festival tomorrow.

Chewshabadoo, Thursday, 18 August 2016 15:30 (nine years ago)

I went to Cold Pumas! Was good. Bonus goodness in the form of some sweet acid trax from Timeron (James from The Sticks/Pheromoans).

lilcraigyboi (Craigo Boingo), Sunday, 21 August 2016 18:53 (nine years ago)

This is just impossible. Both my viewings today have been cancelled. First one because someone took it yesterday and the other one because the tenant is refusing to allow access. There's another place we were interested in but the agent can't show it to us til Thursday because a tenant there has shingles. We have less than 3 weeks left. I think it's time to move to Hastings, Brighton doesn't want us.

If only there was a rolling Hastings thread

away to hastings at the weekend

conrad, Tuesday, 23 August 2016 09:48 (nine years ago)

Yeah, landlords in Brighton are notoriously shitty, though I am surprised it's notably worse than London, figured they were about the same.

By the way, if your situation gets more precarious or you have a bit of time between houses with nowhere to stay, you and the missus can kip here if you want. I don't have a spare room, just a double sofabed in the living room, and obviously it doesn't really help with much, but the offer is there if you find yourselves in dire straits. (You can smoke here too.)

emil.y, Tuesday, 23 August 2016 13:34 (nine years ago)

Thanks for the kind offer emil.y. It was beginning to look like we might've needed to take you up on it, but today we put a holding deposit on a place in St Leonard's and assuming our references go through OK we should hopefully sign the contract after the bank holiday.

So that was a short time living in Brighton! Dunno if it's just a bad time of year to move or what, because it wasn't like this in March. But everywhere was either a shithole or snapped up immediately before we could even view it, or available too soon, or too late (really it was weird, stuff was available mid-August, or late-September/October - hardly anything was available early Sept).

This place we're moving to is on the seafront, has FOUR bedrooms and is £200 a month cheaper than our current dump. Now St Leonard's is not Brighton and I'm sure there's sod all to do there, but it's an hour on the train so I'll be back for gigs here and there I expect. Well I have a ticket to The Rebel gig which is after we move, so there's that. I want to see Mystic Inane at the Cowley Club but that's right around the time we'll be moving, so will have to see.

two weeks pass...

I no longer live in Brighton. Some of my furniture had to be thrown out when I moved because it was so mouldy. After 6 months. Luckily it was cheap old flat pack crap anyway.

I was reading through the inventory before leaving the mouldy dungeon and saw some clause about the tenant being responsible for any damage caused by mould, how the fuck is that legal that a landlord can rent out a damp property and then try to blame it on the tenant? Oh right because half of MPs are landlords that was it.

Anyone going to see the Rebel tomorrow?

Just noise and screaming and no musical value at all. (Colonel Poo), Tuesday, 13 September 2016 13:53 (nine years ago)

What a rip. I'm on my second move of the year. Slightly happier terms because I am moving in with Jo, but Leaders have even charged us a 'Check Out' fee of £102 before we have even moved in, on top of £450 for 'Agency fees' including such asked-for services as signing us up to utility bills (for which they get commission).

Chewshabadoo, Tuesday, 13 September 2016 14:19 (nine years ago)

Yeah, the whole system is fucked up. Hope Hastings is kinder to you both.

Not going to see the Rebel. Think I have a few ventures into to the outside world coming up, will have a think and let you know.

xp

emil.y, Tuesday, 13 September 2016 14:21 (nine years ago)

We had to pay that bullshit checking out fee as well when we moved in. They even charged us £30 to provide a reference to our new agents! I've never had to pay for either of those before.

Our fees for the new place were £200. No moving out fee. So it's just Brighton I think! Didn't have to pay any of that shit in London either.

two weeks pass...

So I will actually be leaving the house a few times in the upcoming months if anyone's around:

* Playing with Damo Suzuki on Oct 11th
* Halloween special Kollaps night on Oct 28th
* Slvm ov Legz supporting the Wharves on Nov 4th

emil.y, Tuesday, 27 September 2016 20:08 (nine years ago)

I might try to come to the Slum of Legs gig but I'm already in Brighton the next day for the Raincoats so will have to see.

I enjoyed Kollaps last time, goes on too late to get back to Hastings tho :P

Just noise and screaming and no musical value at all. (Colonel Poo), Wednesday, 28 September 2016 14:49 (nine years ago)

I think Damo has sold out right? I would like to if there's anyway of squeezing me in?

I'm away the other two times though. :(

We have a Mirage spin-off this Saturday. An afternoon/evening tropical disco at Marwoods. The original idea was to do it out in their garden in the summer but it got moved back, and it's going to rain. However, they hae a graet upstairs space we can use - reminds me a little of when we did The Fitz. There's decent drinks and it's also child friendly too.

Chewshabadoo, Thursday, 29 September 2016 08:21 (nine years ago)

Ah, yeah, I keep forgetting Damo's sold out. We only got one guestlist slot per bandmember but I will see if the person I promised mine to still wants it, will let you know.

emil.y, Thursday, 29 September 2016 11:49 (nine years ago)

so great to see you have some musical hacktivity lined up again em!! will try my best to get to stuff, though i too was far too slow to get a ticket to witness the upcoming suzuki/k******* confluence. bet that will be amazing though, so happy for you!

CP i hope all is going well in hastings. only just found out about this records store there, could be worth a visit?

Rae Kwoniff (NickB), Thursday, 29 September 2016 12:20 (nine years ago)

Thanks Nick - I haven't made it over to Old Town yet, but it's on our to-do list. I will definitely check that place out.

I have been to Wow and Flutter, which is in the main Hastings town centre which is closer to St Leonards than Old Town. That was OK - a few things I may go back for when I've got a bigger budget for records.

So far everything is going well though. Not having to commute via Southern/Thameslink is probably worth the move on its own. Although I still have to use them to get to Brighton.

tt and I will be there on Nov 19th to see Spratleys Japs play live for the first time ever

imago, Thursday, 29 September 2016 12:43 (nine years ago)

Ach, I would have been tempted to come along to hang out but it's a lot of money. Fancy meeting up before or after for a pint?

emil.y, Thursday, 29 September 2016 13:01 (nine years ago)

We'll be hurrying down beforehand, but yeah, that should work! Will keep you updated.

Didn't take long for Hastings to live up to its reputation :(

Just noise and screaming and no musical value at all. (Colonel Poo), Thursday, 13 October 2016 20:51 (nine years ago)

Gah, just saw what you posted in the neighbours thread. You're not having the best luck. Sorry dude. The South is fucking shit.

emil.y, Thursday, 13 October 2016 20:53 (nine years ago)

Blimey, not cool.

Chewshabadoo, Friday, 14 October 2016 11:54 (nine years ago)

one month passes...

Moving time again. Agency accepted one month's notice and not holding us to 6 months, probably because they knew this was happening here and lied to us when showing us around (shocking an estate agent lied I know).

Not the best timing. My wife has breast cancer and is having chemotherapy at the moment so she is not really in a fit state to move house but hopefully I can take care of most of it. She called the police today because she went out and told the junkies to go somewhere else and the dealer came to our and door and stood outside banging on it saying he's not going anywhere. The police came and gave us the same shit about having no resources and not being able to kick someone out who's been given access by someone who lives in the building as they aren't trespassing. The fact they're sitting there with a needle in their arm is of no concern I guess. So that's it, we officially give up. Don't think we'll be coming back to Brighton though, can't afford it. Anywhere but Hastings. Sorry to shit up thread with whinging. Just need to vent somewhere and people aren't judgy in this thread.

Just noise and screaming and no musical value at all. (Colonel Poo), Friday, 18 November 2016 15:16 (nine years ago)

Glad to hear this miserable episode is nearing its end, CP. I'm sorry Hastings hasn't worked out for you - I have two separate sets of friends who've moved there (from London) and they totally love it.

Tim, Friday, 18 November 2016 15:25 (nine years ago)

I've spoken to a few local people and we seem to have blundered into smack central, I'm sure there are good parts, but I don't trust anyone here now, hate the place. Don't like being on edge all the time. The other day some kid asked to use my phone at the train station to call a taxi because the trains weren't running due to the RMT strike and I wouldn't let him because for all I know he's a junkie trying to nick my phone. Mind you there's a taxi office right next door to the station so tbh he probably was. It's just shit.

Just noise and screaming and no musical value at all. (Colonel Poo), Friday, 18 November 2016 15:29 (nine years ago)

I can imagine. What a shame - good luck for the next bit.

Tim, Friday, 18 November 2016 15:31 (nine years ago)

yeah good luck pal

tt and I will be parading around Brighton tomorrow all afternoon if anyone wants to say hi

imago, Friday, 18 November 2016 15:34 (nine years ago)

oh i enjoy a parade! think i'll be in chichester instead though

sorry that hastings turned to shit for you cp, that all sounds hugely stressful and really terribly timed as well. hope your wife's chemo isn't too horrible. god i wish i was heir to the hoogstraten millions and i'd just give each and every one of you your own tower block right fucking now.

Rae Kwoniff (NickB), Friday, 18 November 2016 15:59 (nine years ago)

Fucksake man. Sorry to hear about all of this.

Probably unlikely to be about tomorrow, off to catch at DJ tonight until the early hours, and I already appear to have started drinking, but if someting fapshaped occurs I could be interested.

Chewshabadoo, Friday, 18 November 2016 16:51 (nine years ago)

i would be up for a late sat fap

chewy, who are you off to see?

Rae Kwoniff (NickB), Friday, 18 November 2016 16:57 (nine years ago)

Oh god, CP, I'm sorry this experience has been so hellish for you guys. Anything I can do to help, let me know and I'll try, despite me being pretty fucking useless at the moment. Are you staying in the South-East? I know a few people in Worthing and could ask around about rents, areas etc if that was somewhere you were considering?

emil.y, Friday, 18 November 2016 17:12 (nine years ago)

Also I'm probably going to be hellishly hungover tomorrow as I'm having a "drink away the pain of being too anxious to go to Colour Out of Space" night tonight. But would like to meet up with imago & tt if possible - I think I have your email somewhere, imago, if I can find it I'll send you my number. Also I live bang in the centre of town so if I can't face a FAP maybe you could come over for a cup of tea?

emil.y, Friday, 18 November 2016 17:15 (nine years ago)

We pretty much have to stay in the SE. My job is in London and my wife's having enough trouble getting any support from the NHS as it is without having to try and get referred to another hospital so we're going to try and stay within taxi distance of the hospital.

Just noise and screaming and no musical value at all. (Colonel Poo), Friday, 18 November 2016 17:20 (nine years ago)

E.mily, come to my friends gig at the Quadrant tonight. Modular electronic stuff + Djs, I'm doing a show until 10, but I can call for you. Its on until about midnight. After that I'm going to see local DJ/Producer Jaime Read doing a 5 hour set at Mono, which may possibly be less your cup of tea, but you've not got far to go home from the Quadrant.

Chewshabadoo, Friday, 18 November 2016 17:39 (nine years ago)

You do have my email, e, and if not I have yours - definitely let me know your number and I'll text when (or a little before) we're about!

Your town will be crawling with Cardiacs fans btw - a joyous day

imago, Friday, 18 November 2016 17:44 (nine years ago)

Tonight! https://www.facebook.com/events/1684802028504845/

E, if you don’t make it out tonight, but do tomorrow, send me a FB message.

Chewshabadoo, Friday, 18 November 2016 17:52 (nine years ago)

Ah, sorry Matt, I have two nerdy babes coming over to play Sherlock and commiserate with me, otherwise I might have been tempted. The Quadrant seems to be getting pretty good for gigs and stuff, it's just a shame it's happened when I've been barely able to go out for the three seconds it takes to get there.

emil.y, Friday, 18 November 2016 18:01 (nine years ago)

Really sorry to hear CP, hope the next move works out for the both of you.

xyzzzz__, Friday, 18 November 2016 19:20 (nine years ago)

Errr I just got up, sorry everyone. My head hurts.

emil.y, Saturday, 19 November 2016 17:05 (nine years ago)

Yeah, the shop is about as far as I could make it today too.

Chewshabadoo, Saturday, 19 November 2016 19:47 (nine years ago)

two months pass...

Looks like I'm going to be in Brighton Sunday early evening, so I've booked a free ticket to the Pheromoans at the Hope & Ruin that night, although I'll probably have to leave before it finishes cos trains. Anyone going?

Transform All Suffering Into Poo (Colonel Poo), Thursday, 19 January 2017 17:16 (nine years ago)

I'm recording all day, so it depends on whether we run late, whether I'm knackered, etc. But aside from those factors it does slightly increase my chances of going out, as I'll already be out so it'll be less of a giant step.

emil.y, Thursday, 19 January 2017 17:51 (nine years ago)

Cool. Is this for the eagerly awaited SoL album?

Transform All Suffering Into Poo (Colonel Poo), Thursday, 19 January 2017 18:26 (nine years ago)

It is!

emil.y, Thursday, 19 January 2017 18:46 (nine years ago)

Actually cancel that, just checked the trains and that's not gonna happen. 2 hours, 2 changes, bus service between Eastbourne and Hastings both directions. It's a fucking 35 mile journey. Fuck that. Will have to try and rearrange to tomorrow if my friend can do it.

Transform All Suffering Into Poo (Colonel Poo), Thursday, 19 January 2017 21:58 (nine years ago)

hey cp, hope things are as well as can be atm. was going to say that it's my son's birthday this weekend so i'm busy, but please do shout if you're back out this way again

emil.y: exciting times - hope it's going well!

NickB, Thursday, 19 January 2017 22:03 (nine years ago)

one month passes...

I was going to come to the SoL gig tonight, but the fucking trains aren't running AGAIN. ffs. I'd have to leave at 10:45 and wouldn't get home til 2am. How often is it possible to get a train from Hastings to Brighton at the weekend cos it seems like never.

Colonel Poo, Saturday, 11 March 2017 20:34 (nine years ago)

three weeks pass...

Despite train strike it looks like trains are actually running tomorrow so I'm going to attempt to get to Wolf Eyes at West Hill Hall.
